Lyrics: Just between the two of us we know our love is gone People think it's wonderful our love can be so true You never say an angry word no matter what I do And you have so much faith in me you trust me anywhere But the reason if they only knew is that we just don't care. Just between the two of us let's give up this fantasy For we no longer care enough to even disagree Everybody envies us and the way we get along But just between the two of us we know our love is gone. --- Instrumental --- Wish we could go back again to days that used to be We fought a lot but even then I knew you cared for me Now we get along so well no teardrops ever fall But there's no love no anything there's nothing left at all. Just between the two of us let's give up this fantasy For we no longer care enough to even disagree Everybody envies us and the way we get along But just between the two of us we know our love is gone...

Even though they had their problems when they were married, I think that Bonnie was the best wife he had. He cared about her very much even after they were no longer together, he was crushed when she passed away. It's nice to see them singing together here
So sad, I watched her service on RUclips. I didn't know she had daughters, she had 2 sons with Buck. I don't think they were even there. Merle wasn't there either. It was a small service compared to Buck and Merles. So sad.
I love watching Merle and Bonnie singing this song together but living in the UK I was not able to come over there to see them performing live together But watching how they look at each other both so happy and laughing "Well just between the two of them they really do still care"
Mr. Haggard may he rest in peace! My mom and I miss his songs but they live on forever on social media sites like You Tube and Facebook. We love our classic country songs and most soft pop ballad songs with messages the best. No one can replace the country stars like before 1995, after that time, the country music songs didn't make sense anymore. Merle was one guy I could watch on You Tube with my mom any day of the week. I love most music genres, but we share a love of classic music stars like Merle Haggard (his sons carried on his music legacy and cover his songs. Long live Merle's memory of music. Lonetta H. Pinky
I seen Merle and Bonnie in a very small concert in Eager, Az. in 1993. A friend of a friend was a concert promoter and allowed us to go back stage after the concert. I didn't get to meet Merle but did speak with Bonnie Owens as he was entering his motor home and she told us he was going to rest. Bonnie Owns is the sweetest person besides my grandmother that I have ever had the honor to meet. I could see the love for Merle in her eyes and hear it in her voice. A very special experience for me with a very special lady. ❤
I loved Merle Haggard, and Bonnie's best days was with his band. The two reminded me of the Odd Couple. The only thing they had in common was the music. Merle was a very immature man, couldn't keep his pants on. And Bonnie became his momma . The last marriage worked, b/c he was to old to run the streets. Otherwise she would have been another notch on his belt. Miss him lots . He was one of the best no question about that.
Always loved this song and now it's coming home to roost. We've been roommates for years but with 2 kids, had trouble admitting it. Now that they're getting older and we're growing farther apart, the time has come. Merle has always been my favorite and many of his songs pertinent, but more so now than ever. Thanks for this.
This song reminds me of what an older man was saying about getting old and how he enjoys a woman's company even more now, though there isn't anything sexual because when you get older all that can be gone.
Ironically enough, as an amateur musician, singer and local performer myself there has only ever been one ex that I ever spoke to even after we parted ways romantically. And for the exact same reasons. We sang together before and during our relationship and we would both respectfully do so again without a moment's hesitation even though we have both moved on in our personal lives. And THAT my friends, is the power of music for anyone who doesn't know already.
Bonnie passed in 2006 victim of Alzheimer's....this was ten years before Merle passed,,,they still loved each other and I feel were probably as close to best friend's as anyone could get....they knew their friendship was more important than a marriage,,,,that does happen and for the sake of children, some times it's best to part and remain friends. She was a lovely lady.....at one point when she made that sweet face because she could not get the words to come, it reminded me so much of the face my mother would make, she too had this horrible disease,,,,but Merle's tender side kicked in and he stopped playing his guitar and moved in to let her know he was there for her and would help her get the words to come back! Love, Love, Love this video!
one of several Merle hits written by songwriting great Liz Anderson (mother of country icon Lynn Anderson). She also wrote "All My Friends are Gonna be Strangers" & "The Fugitive" (his first top-10 & number one records, respectively).
On the one hand, I shouldn't give Merle a bit of interest, because of the way he treated Bonnie, but divorces are never completely one sided. These songs break my heart, because I know folks are not paying attention to the truth, of what can happen in our own lives...
Merle and Bonnie, and Bonnie’s husband were close right to the end of his life. She was always such a sweet and timid woman. Merle sure could pick ‘em.
Another great song by Bonnie. She pairs with Merle Haggard on this one. They were married to each other for awhile, but divorced when they did this song .........
