Loved these commercials by Colt 45, where everything around them bordered on chaos, and then he gets a Colt 45 to break up the humdrum of his life. :)

I was just now watching a little more of the "1001 Classic Commercials" DVD and enjoying seeing again this ad--that Colt 45 Malt Liquor theme coming back to me like an old friend--when it dawned on me that I've also seen this poker-faced actor elsewhere. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't he one of the comedy players on the "Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour" from the '70s?
And you're right; this is mid-sixties, not 1960, for all the reasons you mentioned.

Billy Van was in Colt 45 commercials from the 1960s to early 1980s. One commercial featured the Nairobi Trio (which was originally on Ernie Kovacs' TV shows, with the song "Solfeggio"), and used Ernie's original costumes and props---and Ernie's widow, Edie Adams, reprising her original role as the ape at the piano.

A classic ad campaign that ran for years. Not sure if it's from 1960 though. More likely from the mid-'60s, because it was shot in color (despite the rather bleached-out, almost sepia-tone appearance of the colors due to age). This is a campaign that they should bring back and update for the current market of Colt 45 (apparently the same market they aimed the car ads with the hip-hop hamsters at). Thanks for posting this. Oh yeah, before I forget: FIRSTIES!!!!

That guy looks a bit like one of the people from that show, and he may have been on other shows by that company as well, such as Tony Orlando & Dawn, the Hudson Bros., the short-lived Gladys Knight & the Pips variety show, and others (they all used the same troupe of actors, like Freeman King, Murray Langston (aka the "Unknown Comic"), etc.); Teri Garr got her start as an actress on Sonny & Cher too (and was a backup dancer on "The T.A.M.I. Show" film also). Check your inbox!
