@@gregwonhoff7161 Well Greg time for a rock history lesson, David Gilmour is a guitarist and singer , he’s now 78 years old and this is a track from his 2024 new album. David is very famous on his solo career and more notably because of his tender in an English band called PINK FLOYD.
I’m pretty sure you have heard of Pink Floyd 🤗 he is one of the most famous guitarist 🎸 in the world 🌎 and have a very special sound of his own, so in most cases a person that is into that kind of music would recognize his guitar player. He does slow and melodic leads solos and has always had a ton of the best sound effects boxes and pedals. He’s one of my all time favorites 🤗
This is a new song and I just heard it recently and actually downloaded the album from Apple 🍎 music 🎵.
So I went downstairs yesterday at around 4pm 🕓 and did a quick Everly Brothers song. Then decided to give this David Gilmour song a shot.
Listening to the record I knew that I was able to play this song with my drum skills, the problem I was worried about is lots going on will I be able to remember how to put everything together, because my memory is beyond horrible 🧠.
So I sat down and slowly went into learning step by step, just jamming away with the song, picking up ideas 💡 along the way.
Then I recorded the song onto my cassette deck, this way I could play, stop 🛑 and rewind easily.
This process too a long time, and I also charted out a map of what drum 🥁 parts and fills I’m going to use.
So since I don’t read music, I have created a method of notation, by using the Song Lyrics.
I write the words on a big white erasable board, then make a cheat sheet. Using the songs words I will make notes on when to stop 🛑 or start for example, I also use the words to mark down song changes, like verses and the chorus changes.
Using the same method, I write down, when I want to use the hi hat or the ride cymbal and all of my crash cymbal, so I actually do plan out which cymbals I’m using in the songs. Even though I have Three 16” crashes, they all have different sounds and fit the song differently.
OK NOW IM READY TO START PUTTING EVERYTHING TOGETHER AND START MAKING MY ROADMAP 🥁🚙🚗🥁
Let me tell you this song was a NIGHTMARE, for me to play, although music wise I could do the drum parts , but remembering the drum parts just destroyed me, even with my notes 📝 it was just too much to remember.
I wouldn’t give up and played the song 100’s of times over and over and over. It got to a point where I just didn’t know where I was in the song.
After spending close to two hours I managed to get a good take 🎬 only to find one of my cameras 📸 didn’t turn on with the remote control.
So I started to record the sound all over again, and it took another couple hours to get this Final recording that I posted.
I’m a perfectionist when making my videos, so things can constantly go on, forgetting my parts, missing the hi hat or cymbal, hitting a rim, dropping a drumstick 🍗, and sometimes my hands 🙌 just don’t respond to my brain 🧠 and just don’t work 😡
The last thing that I worry about is totally consistency in the volume I’m hitting the snare or crash cymbals, sometimes I don’t hit the crash loud enough or too loud, and I will stop 🛑 and start again from the beginning. This song is over SIX MINUTES LONG, so imagine I’m FIVE MINUTES INTO THE SONG and I made a mistake or didn’t like the way I hit the cymbal, if you haven’t fell asleep 😴 yet … you can see my frustration 🤬🤬🤬
I wouldn’t give up and after Four hours, 😱 I got this song down, and it definitely isn’t perfect. 😇
Now for the Cherry 🍒 on top of my journey, the main facing camera wasn’t in perfect focus ☹️ That’s one of the reasons, I went big on my special effects. The editing process took me well over three hours closer to 4 hours.
I’m not complaining Greg, this is my hobby and I enjoy doing this, it’s just easier when I can record a song in one hour. 🤗

@@The-Tired-Drummer Well, Kenny, I certainly admire your patience and perseverance to stick with whatever song you are working on. I guess that is one caveat to just playing for myself, I don’t have to worry so much about perfection. I certainly appreciate all the hard work and time you put into your drumming, because I enjoy it so much.❤️🙏🏻👏🏼❤️🙏🏻👏🏼❤️

It’s a 6 minute song 🎵 so every little mistake can happen anytime and then I have to start from the beginning again.
It probably took me 4 hours from start to finish on the song 🎵, then another 4 hours working on the editing and special effects.
      It’s like 4:16 am I guess I’m ready for bedtime 🤗

@@edwardkaminsky8142 , Thanks ☺️ I have been trying to cut back on my effects lately, but this was one of those songs that I felt needs a little flashy effects. This is a new song so I’m not really familiar enough with it and had to spend a lot of time to learn and play it. I had to do this so many times to get it right. I spent a few hours and after a while I just kept forgetting where I was, I have a total concentration face going on here.
