I always loved Frankie and I always truly loved Holly. The man is all class and style with a distinctive amazing voice and his sense of humor is always just there under the surface. He's a beautiful talent all round. I love that he always wore gloves. That's just part of that class and style. And his talking voice is just a beautiful as his singing voice.
I can't believe I missed this interview. It's great to see Holly stand up to oppression. I've said it before and I'll say it again, "RELAX is the greatest song of the 1980's". There was Michael Jackson, Prince, and Madonna. There were the Police, U2, and the Eurythmics. It just takes one song and that came from Frankie Goes to Hollywood. "RELAX" was the butterfly that caused an earthquake around the world.
I disagree. The song was already at number 6 when it was banned and probably would have been number one anyway. I'm sure there would have been less hype and it would have been on the charts for a shorter time, but it would have been better. With this move, Mike Read, ZTT and the media have essentially claimed all the credit for Relax's success for themselves. I hate that Holly was treated so badly that he was made to feel that he had nothing to do with the success. Not to mention the way he was treated by his bandmates.
By 1984, pop bands (and moe importantly, their embryonic svengalis) had learned from the pistols. All it then is, is media manipulation. And the scariest part is politics got in on the scene.
Great seeing people get excited about them performing at the Eurovision in Liverpool. I’ve been on a memory lane RUclips spree soaking up all the glorious 80s again. Happy days.
I was not amused one bit by this reunion. I hope we will be spared another one. They never respected or loved Holly a bit. Belive me nothing has changed between Holly and the rest of the band.
Frankie are back performing together for the first time in 36 years tomorrow night in Liverpool. Holly has continued from that day to this to believe in free speech. One of the best artists this country has produced. Let's hope it's the start of a new chapter. Frankie Say...time to party AGAIN!
I think to some people the lyrics would just seem meaningless rather than obscene. But songs about oral sex may be considered a little tame by today's standards anyway.

Yeah he was prejudiced but it wasn't only prejudiced. He has to be totally clueless. I was over 10 at the time and always assumed Peter Powell knew something about music. Clearly not though
Relax don’t do it was a classic song one of Holly best and for bbc 1 to banned at the time is absolutely ridiculous there is nothing offensive about the lyrics just small minded prejudice people

Holly was so switched on, polite, well spoken, and totally GORGEOUS ! 🤗🤗❤️❤️

Amazing that Talk Talk's music underlies this interview. Such a tribute to two of the most original and innovative artists of the 1980s.
And underrated, for my money.
No one would've cared then, but they do now. How strange.
Holly Johnson, George Michael and Talk Talk were amazing in the ’80s.❤👍👍👍❤😘
Holly Johnson is a f*cking legend and trailblazer.
love Holly he's great
Well done Holly.
LOVED IT BACK THEN, WHEN I COULDNT UNDERSTAND THE LYRICS LOVE IT EVEN MORE NOW lol...... Epic !!!
Beautiful man

Brilliant interview...Holly was perfect..putting his point across
'The ban' was ironically the best thing that could have happened.
The Best PR and Fee! I hate the BBC and its force fed minority liberal leftist agenda.🖕🏻

The song lives on, and is as fresh today as it was 40 years ago, and somehow the beeb crawled way further up its own arse.
Such a Great Man!!
Jung und cool 👍
When I was 15, I had Holly’s face in a silver locket. This reminds me how handsome he was!
He still is
He was plastered all over my bedroom walls. I had the biggest crush on him! His voice is amazing and he was always the BEST dressed musician.

So tame nowadays... I remember the ho ha back in the days in the 80s as a kid.... It was a omg moment. Miss those days. Lol
One of the greats is Holly
Love you Holly ❤
Played right into their hands, brilliant marketing.
They sent it straight to no.1 👍👍👍
The correct answer would have been: "No compromise when it comes to Art". This 1984 music video is iconic 😉
He admits that they didn't even consider themselves rock. It was just pure music with no labels.
@@SleepMeditationandAffirmations sounds like Hi NRG disco to me
brilliant!!!
Holly is right. The censors are wrong.
Censorship is inherently wrong. Let parents do the parenting, not the TV, radio, or internet.
😮 oh well.. they never stopped it from charting all over the world 😂 the rest is history 🤘🏽it was one of my fave tracks growing up in Australia
Legendary band decades later still being listened to, Radio who .?
Holly go fella he certainly put that prat on the spot!

Wonder what this bbc radio 1 guy would think of WAP today
He would implode live on the air.
If Holly looked like this now I would propose.
tbh I'd propose anyway
And..he would say NO!!
Budder Kupp he may say “thank God gay marriage is legal because other wise this would be awkward” and then he’d say no thank you and chuckle
He looks like a dark haired Ryan gosling but better looking 😋
Thats cause ur a faggot(no offence)
❤
His one eyelid doesn’t open like the other does it?
whats that track playing faintly in the background? Its driving me crazy trying to remember
carpii It’s My Life by Talk Talk!
The Music In The backround I think i know it
Talk Talk-It's my Life
....this is hilarious....
Holly didn't defend the song properly...sorry
The WAS and IS sexual...very sexual and very direct. He should have just admitted that.
Who knows, there may be places where people are selected by laser beam.
Mark Lamaar looking hip
