As an Apple fan I just laugh out loud when I heard Ultra Retina XDR and all the other screen names, I remember when the Liquid Retina display was revealed me and my fellow Apple sheep friend were joking around saying what if there was a Liquid Retina XDR display, then a few later it actually happened😭😭😭😭😭 we laughed for like 5 min straight cause the names are actually absurd
Hey! Very good video here! Just for precision, Super Retina does not refer to OLED but to an increase in pixel density (from 326 to 458 ppi), and the Liquid Retina XDR in the Mini LED iPad refers to the liquid crystal layer of Mini LED (basically an LCD with a non uniform backlight). Keep it up! Nice thumbnail too ;)
thanks for the comment! i don’t really think super retina is referring to an increase in pixel density because the retina hd display on the iphone 6 plus had bumped the pixel density to 404 ppi. thanks for pointing out the mini led inaccuracy tho!
i could’ve directed this video straight at mr. timothy cookothy, but you know damn well that when he says “goud mornang” at wwdc24, i’m gonna be screaming my guts out going like “TIMMY! TIMMYYYYYYY!”
LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED (it's short for Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide Super Retina Extended Dynamic Range Organic Light-Emitting Diode Display)
Retina doesn't mean "300 ppp", it's a formula that also takes viewing distance into account, so it's a different density in Macs, iPhones and iPads. That's why they don't use it in Vision Pro, you can definitely see individual pixels even if the density of the display is crazy high. The information regarding mini-LED is also incorrect, as it's a type of LCD, the difference is in the backlighting used. And also, XDR doesn't mean "higher contrast ratio" as you say, it's about the peak brightness for HDR content, which was greatly improved in the iPhone 11 Pro. Also the video fails to understand that these aren't technical terms, they're marketing words used to describe the "experience" consumers can expect, you can check the specs in the specs page if you know about display types.
1. my bad, you’re correct on the first point with the vision pro 2. i’ve already put a correction for mini-LED in the description 3. i apologize if xdr doesn’t refer to the higher contrast ratio, but even if the peak brightness improved, my point still stands that it’s not “extreme” dynamic range, it’s just better hdr 4. sorry i forgot to mention they were marketing terms, but at least they could make them more cohesive (another example of this: use the pro naming scheme, like retina pro), because average users don’t need to know anything more than “it’s a better screen” thanks for the comment!
I recognize a Liquid Retina display based on if it has true blacks. That’s about it. I recognize Super Retina if it’s an OLED. And finally, Ultra Retina is based on the logic similar to M-series Ultra. An Ultra chip is 2 Max chips put together, so an Ultra display is 2 Super Retina (OLED) displays put together. It still needs fixing.
i will never comprehend how apple claimed that the pro display xdr had "infinity to one contrast ratio" they had to remove it in the uk because it was misleading lol
for this video i was thinking about explaining why an ∞ to one contrast ratio is theoretically possible but not physically possible, but it wasn’t important to my point

legit laughed so hard at this
6:35 Mini-led displays are still LCD. Mini-led part just refers to backlight with LCD display on top of it
oh, thanks for pointing that out, i’ll put a correction in the description
This video is very informational! Thanks, Ritik!

lol the thumbnail 😂
good video man keep it up
Great content! Keep it up 👍🏻
how long did it take for you to track all of the names? lol. the thunderbolt display -> pro display xdr -> studio display
@@Space_US they were all on wikipedia, but trying to navigate and understand all of them took a week. it’s sad.

how did this make me even more confused
this video has some great color grading!
nice and informative video

Its all fun and games until apple releases a Super Ultra XDR HD Display 💀
when that happens i will definitely switch to android and windows
@@techyOS No you won't. It would take a lot more than that :)
I think it’s just marketing gimmick and most of common consumer will not care about it, whatever the name be.
fair
