- Does everyone in Maryland talk funny?
Does Maryland wish they weren’t part of the south?
And do Marylanders put Old Bay on everything?
We’ll talk about that and a whole lot more. So put on a suit - or some camo - we’re going to unbox the state of Maryland!

Of course we know of Baltimore's troubles. But Maryland is a LOT more than just Baltimore, everyone. It’s actually a state with a lot of different various regions and cultures. Politically, socially and economically, this state is actually pretty diverse for such a small place.
It’s not a big state - if you measured Maryland’s size, there are only seven states that are smaller. Maryland is barely bigger than Vermont. But population wise, Maryland ranks 19th. Maryland has more people than Colorado does.
But to really understand what it’s like in Maryland, you have to look at the big picture and get a big picture overview. We'll talk about crabs, the Orioles and Ravens, Montgomery County, and of course, Old Bay.
Here in Maryland. Such a pretty state. There is a bay here and lots of crab fisherman. Rich people live here and they are so snobby. Many of them have some big boats and they are rude.
Baltimore is scary its scary….you might get harmed. Might get harmed.
Baltimore is scary its scary….It might not stop. Might not stop.
They all love Old Bay. Theyre in love with Old Bay. They all eat Old Bay on all their crab cakes.
They all eat Old Bay. Every day. Old Bay for presents on their birthday.
Natty Bohs and some Old Bay what could be better maybe some pepper.
A bunch of crab legs and old bay that is their entree. And maybe more crabs.
Hon?

Uumm PG County is one of the wealthiest Black communities in America
That's factually accurate.
PG County is F* POOR
Right, PG county is the Wealthiest blk. The community in the USA. I vouch for that.
@@SassyAlien The poor parts of PG are poor, yes. But Friendly, Woodmore, Kettering, Ft. Washington and Mitchellville are on the top 10 list of most affluent black neighborhoods in the country.
It has 5 of the top 10, true.
I just come for the comments saying “I live in this state and he literally got nothing right”.
He actually got it pretty spot on. Though people from Montgomery County might disagree. The areas outside the three cities he mentioned is pretty middle class though. It's where the not rich but not poor white people live in the D.C. area. That and Alexandria in Virginia.
Yes. He was mistaken about Baltimore. The farther north you go from Downtown the more affluent it becomes. Johns Hopkins, Roland Park, Canterbury, Stoneleigh, Towson, Cockeysville up to Timmonium is called and considered Greater Baltimore. It's the west, east and south of Baltimore that needs the help.
Meh, he got some stuff right, but I also don't live at Montford & Biddle and work in the drug game. So my prospects of getting shot greatly diminish.
@@maximusindicusoblivious180 Towson and Cockeysville are suburbs. They don't count. He mentioned Baltimore County north of the city specifically.
Right exactly me too. Except for Montgomery county being wealthy.🤦🏽♀️
Things you missed/got wrong:
1. We have the best state flag in the whole damn country.
2. We do not all speak like "warshington"
3. Southern Maryland is not unworthy of your time, it is beautiful. we are the best kept secret. Close enough to the city for it to not be inconvenient and far enough away to not have the headache of city life.
State flag is cool, agreed
I can agree I'm from Baltimore but moved to st marys county about 5 years ago
@@claudenelson3631 hey hey! Fellow St. Mary's resident here!
I never noticed that the best flag in the country was everywhere until I went to WV for the first time. Their flag is NOWEHRE
Yes! Didnt even mention calvert County 🤦
Ocean City was never a dump and PG county has some of the wealthiest black communities in the country.
OC has had a few years of being rough looking, you probably aren't old enough though.
@@n0validusername I lived in OC in the early 80s . It was never "rough looking" Back in the 70s, Frank Sinatra and Spiro Agnew both had places in OC. They would come down for a week or two every year.
I'm born and raised in Maryland, I'm 56 and can tell you OC was indeed a dump late 70s early 80s and dont get off the boardwalk into the side streets, the locals aren't very cool
Always a dump ;) and that's my county..
@@ronaldmercer9616 He said 20 years ago what’s you’re saying was 40ish years lol and no the locals aren’t mean at all 😂 I have walked the streets of ocean city when I was 11-14 with family and it was always a good experience.

I couldn’t have said it better lol
After he got to the Carroll county area I was like okay he knows nothing about Maryland 😂😂😂
THE BUNKER TV No not for people who actually live there. He’s the one that needs to learn.
He only telling you half the story of Maryland, Maryland is a beautiful state to live in, fourth richest state in America income 100,0000.
Actually it’s the richest state, not the fourth.
Yeah, but its sucks me and my bf are having a horrible time finding a place to live that is affordable its way too expensive here
@@Shy.55 Yeah it's crazy, and yet when you try looking for places in VA it's almost twice the price.
Private Owners. Get cheaper rent and a nice place !
WRONG. We have the highest median income in the nation at $72,000. To put that into perspective California is 5th
"Oh come on, we're not THAT snobby."
-Me, a rich white guy that lives in Montgomery County
Haha, and somehow the snobby rich people elected an eccentric communist as their county executive, I love it.
It seems to be less snobby than it was in the 90’s.

Ive been to baltimore and i can say i agree with him in Balmore sad!!
As someone who grew up on the eastern shore, and lives on the other side of the state now, you pretty much nailed it.
I feel like Howard County and Montgomery County should have received special recognition for having dense populations of Karens.
Especially Moco!💀💀
Nah the Karen's reside in Towson most definitely
Shimmer Rihh Moco and Towson for sure

U forgot to mention some of the wealthiest cities/towns in Maryland are also predominantly black smh
Mind naming some of those cities and towns?
john Doe North Potomac Maryland, Potomac Maryland, Rockville Maryland, Shady Grove, Bethesda Maryland, North Bethesda Maryland etc you get it from here I think oh and Crown and Rio shopping center has nice neighborhoods right next to Crown too
He had ZERO intention on doing so
Sammie D Fort Washington, Mitchellville, Upper Marlboro, Bowie, Friendly, Woodmore, Kettering. Some of the most wealthiest in the country and also black
@@sammied231 he basically said this is the black side...
Dude, the area you circled... my Vernon, Charles village, and Hamden are really nice areas. You don’t know much about Baltimore
Or, Montgomery County if he thinks Silver Spring is rich white people driving BMWs and Jaguars ;)
“Really nice?” That’s a reach.
Right, he chose to only show the bad streets. All the areas he circled are nice neighborhoods. He knows nothing. And no mention of Fells, Fed hill, Canton, Patterson Park, all nice areas.
J MD someone else who doesn’t know anything.
I agree, he doesn’t know much about Baltimore at all.
I moved to MD 9 years ago and still learned a ton. Informative AND entertaining vid Nick. Keep up the good work.
Ok John!
This was hilarious! Thanks for the video. Helpful for sure
University of Maryland is in PG county! MGM Casino is in PG County, as well as Bowie State, the National Harbor, NASA Goddard space Center. Don’t sleep on PG. yes parts of it are hood but not everything.
And andrews air force base
And Fed Ex Field
How they not hoods?
Kyng Jakk it is home to 5 of the top ten wealthiest black neighborhoods in America which makes it the richest black county in all of America.
Papa Gramps you must be talking about Bowie, Upper Marlboro because the parts near dc are not nice like Landover or forestville or seat pleasant
I’ve lived in Maryland most of my life. I don’t say hun or Warshington, and I don’t put Old Bay on anything except crabs. I root for the Terps, the Skins, and the Nats, and I’m very much missing my sports. Maryland is a pretty great state and has just about anything you could want. Thanks for doing a video on our great state!
Hey Carol!
Capitals and Wizards
Hey, Nick!!
Albert Sancho, yes! Sorry I forgot those two!
Yup. “Warshington”??? Nahhhh. And Old Bay is for crabs/summer. Good post!
This guy enjoys adding to the stereotype of “certain” spots in Maryland, in particular Baltimore
How are you doing
Hello how are you doing my name is David belote am sorry you don’t know me can I know you more
Omg that song at the end has me crying!! 🤣
Why does he considered the Baltimore accent all of Maryland’s accent
It's only a west Baltimore accent at that (maybe a little south Baltimore)
Baltimore is Baltimore and its soooo different from PG, MoCo & Charles Co !
The Baltimore accent is extremely inaccurate tho, not one person from here pronounces it as “Baltimur” it’s more like “Baldimor”
Exactly
@@ateyagirlscroissant3977
I think it's the way I grew up around people but I always called it "Baltimur" lol
Also as someone who’s lived in Baltimore briefly and walked around the city it’s not as bad as he makes it out to be you just need to have street smarts
I’d rather walk through sketchy parts of Baltimore City at night than some parts of NYC
Thank you it’s not that bad
I've lived in, walked in, and driven in Baltimore City. Like any big city, it has places that are bad, places that are ground into poverty, places that are less safe than others. If you only film the unattractive streets, then you are giving a poor overview of the city. During the Revolutionary War, the country's capital was moved to Baltimore and the State Capital in Annapolis has the oldest still operating Capitol Building.
As a person who went to Johns Hopkins University, the neighborhoods and streets are not as dangerous as portrayed in the video. I actually felt safe in that part of area in north Baltimore City. There are some rich neighborhoods near the campus and nice coffee shops and clothing stores near the campus as well.
I wanna be able to walk around without having to be "street smart" tho
I live in MD and the video is right on. I have shared with many friends. Keep up the great videos. I love them.
As a Marylander I love how tongue-in-cheek this video is. As someone who has traveled a lot I can comfortably say I wouldn't wanna live anywhere else!
Maryland is a great home base for traveling
Have you been to atlanta, portland or seatle? if so how would those cities compare to Maryland?
@@elijahadams8835 Comparing just cities to an entire state isn't really possible. The only thing in Maryland comparable is Baltimore, which is already a different vibe from the rest of Maryland lol
I'm from Bethesda Maryland, I'm in Houston Texas now, for 30 something years, miss maryland, crab boils, fishing, visiting Georgetown...great state, lived in frederick and thurmont Maryland, in the country, was gorgeous.
Wooo! Frederick! He skipped quite a few parts of Maryland, like Frederick which I think is a great place.
Yep! Frederick, like all other cities in MD, have their good areas and bad ones. One simply has to know which areas are which. I'm still in Frederick County, and I love it.
You boiled your crabs? Ugh. We steam them here.
I'm currently living in Bethesda, changed so much, people no longer afford here single house starts at 2mil+. I'm moving to Rosemary Beach next year can't wait
So Prince George's County is home to 5/6 of the wealthiest towns in the country. It's not just "ward 9". It is also home to ~15 Government Agencies who do a great deal of procurement for private business owners which means its a huge economic driver for the Country. I won't go into all of the stats but the way you painted Gorgeous Prince George's was clearly biased. Lastly, "College Park" just outside of Moco... happens to be in Prince George's County.
R. Joshua Reynolds it seems like his goal with the video was to only talk about the bad things and complain. Seems like a miserable person in general. I’ve never even heard of Ward 9.
R. Joshua Reynolds that’s very true

You hit the nail on the head hon with your unboxing Maryland.
i’m far from western maryland but when i do go to the cumberland area for a family reunion it is beautiful and maryland is a mix of everything but the more west you go the more pretty it gets .
Everything in this video is incorrect. You chose to show the one bad street in Baltimore and made it seem like that’s the whole city with no mention of the other wonderful neighborhoods and culture here. I’ve lived in the city for over a decade with no issues. And some of the names you are calling people in the rural areas and eastern shore I’ve never heard of in my life. You obviously made this video having no knowledge of the state at all.
ONE bad street?
He’s a tool !!! A true bone head ass guy ! Baltimore has soooo many nice places !
Would have been nice to see the great things in Baltimore highlighted like the universities, Kennedy Krieger, and all the other great things.
Baltimore has more than one bad street. It used to be a great city once but poor leadership is leading it to ruin. The only good parts re the neighborhoods along border from west to north to the east.
Agree.
In Maryland, It'll go from 28 to 72 in three days. I kid you not. Happened in 2016
Fascinating stuff, these unboxing vids.
As someone from Maryland the things he said are very debatable it depends on which parts your going to and the people you talk to. Take everything he said with a gran of salt❤️
I agree.
As a Marylander, I questioned the accuracy of some of the video. Then you said everyone else in the state hates Montgomery County and I thought, alright, pretty accurate.

It has its ups and downs. I certainly don't like the high cost of living, unfriendliness, way too much traffic and type A pesonalities that have migrated down here. I won't say it is the worst place, but I find the region overrated honestly.

Maryland was the state that fully welcomed me on my first trip to the USA for an exchange program , stayed in Ocean City, MD for the whole summer (in 2016 and 2017) it’s a safe city , great nightlife ,good food and good people , and it’s close to the Rehoboth Beach outlets in Delaware where you can get lots of stuff. I'm originally from Maryland and I attended and graduated from the University of Maryland.
Basically this video is saying what everyone in Baltimore thinks: everything in Maryland outside of Baltimore is hillbilly town and north Baltimore is dangerous.
But this video didn’t mention all the nice parts of Baltimore, like Fells Point, Federal Hill, the inner harbor, Roland park, etc.
Um, North Baltimore is the wealthiest and least dangerous part of the city. I do agree, of course, that the areas you mentioned are nice. BTW, Roland Park is in North Baltimore.
I can definitely vouch for Roland Park area, I went to that elementary school! Catonsville, Patterson Park, Mt Vernon, Reistertown, and Whitelock. It’s a small city with a lot of gems 💎
THIS guy seems to take a rather shallow view and understanding of many places he visits. Who is he anyway? Where is he from? Where did he go to school and for how long? He does hit on some of our stereotypical flaws. We’re a fractured state, America in miniature, they used to say. Geographically and socially. I think he’s too young to have heard that, or just not bright enough to pick up on the nuances. Little better than BS?

Another great clip, Nick. I was born in "Bawlmer City" in 1957 so I remember how bad it has become now. Maryland is a big, diverse place, so it all depends on where you want to live (like most states). I personally think that the Eastern Shore has the most to offer.
Clip? Haha
Used to live in Moco over 10 years ago, and loved it. Now live in Hagerstown Washington county Waco. Not gonna lie it was a huge culture shock when first moved to Hagerstown but have gotten used to it.
Hey Nick!
Thanks for talking about my home state. I was born and raised and still live in Silver Spring, MD. It would had been nice if you mentioned Columbia and Towson, those are some nice towns too in Maryland.
Stay awesome, I love your channel and watch your videos religiously.
Awww glad you find value in the videos :)
College Park and University of Maryland are in PG county....people seem to forget this. Its not called "just outside Montgomery County" its in PG. Say where it is...not what it is in proximity to. With the virus, the college town is empty, but I drive there to support some of my favorite restaurants in my county.
PG is such a big and diverse place with some beautiful homes. My family and I have never actually heard anyone call it ward 9, but why show just that rough area? I always hear "one of nations wealthiest black areas" and I feel comfortable and safe here. Been here since 98.
They are gentrifying a lot of the shady areas close to D.C. but PG isn't just the outskirts of D.C. either.
That rough snippet of PG is one part, and that pretty snippet of University of MD is another part of the same county. What does MOCO have to do with college park and UMD? This stuff is why PG gets no credit for the good stuff we actually have.
I just bought a home in the suburbs in a nice community with great neighbors and beautiful parks.
Baltimore born and raised. Guy got a lot right here but he missed the mark on some things
1. Politicians are reluctant to gentrifying baltimore city would cause rents would be astronomically high. They have already risen a ridiculous percentage over the past couple years and most people in baltimore city are living at or below poverty levels. If in 2018 your rent was 900, theres no reason why that same place should rent for 1300 two years later. Gentrification brings people with higher incomes in the impoverished hood seeing low rents and therefore landlords jack those prices up. Doesnt affect the gentrifiers, but affects the long term residents greatly. A vast majority of homes in the city are rental properties. Its not about losing support. Its about not having a place to live.
2. We did not climb the gates of M&T Bank to watch the ravens play, at least not to my knowledge and the clip. We climbed the gate to participate in the Superbowl celebration ceremony in 2012 because the stadium was at capacity and they closed the gates. It was a big deal. They shut down downtown and my job gave us a break to attend. But yes we are die hard ravens fans. I have a tattoo
3. You also left out that Maryland is one of the wealthiest states comprised of African Americans in the nation
4. The accents - The only two detectable accents we really have are Rural white accents (all of Maryland) and Black city accents (Baltimore City): The rural whites are the ones who say "hon'" (honey) and "wooder" (Water). We say "tew" (too) "urn" (iron, aaron, urn), "zink" (sink), "oinch" (orange). PG/MoCo/DC has their own lingo and it confuses us sometimes if we dont go to DC often.
Niiiice Mr Jones!!
I've lived in Glen Burnie all of my life and don't pronounce my words in either of those ways. My dad does though because he lived in Bmore City.
I lived in maryland my whole life and I domt talk like that and most people I know dont neither. From Caroline County
Baltimore residents absolutely have a very distinct accent, and yes the long time residents do say hon. Three distinct regions, I-95 corridor, Western MD, and Eastern Shore and would include the counties s of DC as essentially Eastern Shore
BALTIMORE FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!
Great sports team
Living in Maryland my whole life, you got most of it right! Especially about Baltimore and western Maryland haha. No one really says hon though. Cheers
Pretty amazing how RICH the state of Maryland is! RICHEST of all 50 states by median household income, even more amazing considing how poor the majority of Baltimore is, and drags it down considerably!
It’s the liberal hub. What do you expect?
I thought Maryland was poor because it got so much crime in Baltimore.
@@phuckhugh2698 no that's just Baltimore
@@phuckhugh2698 maryland isnt just baltimore-
Potomac area and Howard County gives a lot of high population high money area
too funny! I'm actually from Columbia, MD. Not sure where that is exactly on your map, but it's a good area. Thanks for sharing and posting.
It's because he ignored most of the good areas.
Wonderful video. We live in Glen Burnie and we absolutely love it here.
Hey now, southern Maryland (st Mary and Calvert) aren’t THAT boring. I love how it was entirely skipped over 🤣🤣🤣
Hey Lauren am sorry you don’t know me my name is David belote I was flipping through the comments sections when I came across your comments i decided to know you more hope you don’t mind
For real. To not even mention Leonardtown or Solomons makes me think he didn’t spend much time researching. Now I’m thinking his other videos aren’t very accurate.
Ayyyyeeee!!! PG County resident here!! Thanks for covering our state, I didn’t know a lot about Western or Eastern MD😂😂😂😂😂and I been here my whole life🤣
No problem Mika!!
The western shore part of Maryland is my favorite part. My uncle has property in Bushwood area and there are lots of amish and catholic churches and maritime towns. It is absolutely gorgeous there! My uncle lived in Fairfax for a while which is just a huge crowded boring suburb but he used to live in Chevy Chase which is definitely more upscale and lots of it is along the mountains. Overall its a state i love visiting but would never put up with the crowd and cost of living
Maryland native here! Well done on unboxing Maryland.
This dude is probably from Cleveland.
Lol no way
@@NickJohnson Hagerstown and Frederick anit country but the rest of the west Maryland is so I see the confusion
