Thanks to both Warren and Colleen for showing some of our most remote country in beautiful pictures and historical stories. You are both gems. Can’t wait to do the Ghan trip by train.
What a lovely video. Your info is priceless and the droneshots opens up the wastness of the landscape. The Ghan is on my bucket list. Thanks a million for sharing this!
Thanks for sharing your trip.It brought a lot of memories from my youth, feral living ,working &travelling the outback for years.Had the privilege of working with some of the pioneers who opened much of SA to wheels when I was young & they were not .
This is the first of your videos that has popped up in my suggested videos and on the strength of it I have subscribed. We are planning to be on the Ghan 1 Nov 2023 on our 15th wedding anniversary, we did the Savannahlander on our 10th. Hi from NZ, Anthony
There is a boundary called the Goyder Line that separates the areas into two distinctive parts. In 1865 George Goyder, the then Surveyor-General of the colony, was asked to map the boundary between those areas that received good rainfall and those experiencing drought. After traversing an estimated 3200 km on horseback (not including the Eyre Peninsula) in November 1865, he submitted his report and map to the state government on 6 December. The map included a line of demarcation, the areas north of which being those Goyder judged "liable to drought", and the areas south which were suitable for cropping. Great video. I've been through some of that area juat a few years ago myself. Cheers
Thanks for your great comment Doug, look forward to seeing some of your Russian relics during the thaw mate! All the best for 2018 - Warren and Colleen.
Wow NQ! I mean, just wow. This is truly a top notch presentation and an excellent history lesson. I feel a little sad I will never get to take a ride through that beautiful loneliness on that railway. Wonderful music and excellent aerial footage set the mood just right. Amazing to see that Brenny just sitting out in the middle of nowhere. It's in deplorable condition but at least people can still see it. Lest we forget. Thanks so much for taking us all along mate. Hope you and yours had a Merry Christmas and have a happy and prosperous New Year.
Thanks for your great comment Mars - I thought you may enjoy a railway-themed trip LOL. Something fascinating about an abandoned railway, particularly one built in such a place with great hardship. All the best for 2018 mate and Happy Fossicking! Warren and Colleen.
Amazing video! What a great adventure, being from Canada you really gave me a good sense of what it’s like in Australia. What a beautiful place. Loved the history, stories and seeing the sites and finds. 👍👍👍 Unfortunately we had big mud slides a few year ago and it took out the railway. Damage was to excessive they shut it down. They just started pulling up all the old railway ties and we found many of those flatty coins :) enjoyed thanks for the upload.
I never made it North of NSW and now I can't fly I won't be able to see any more of your beautiful country. My nephew lives in Darwin and he told me I would love it except for the flies lol. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful video, I wanted to go on the Ghan railway and now I have seen it. Happy Christmas and a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New Year to you and Colleen. Take care my friends, good luck and happy fossicking Mary-Ellen UK
