- SHOULD YOU UPGRADE UR HP REVERB G2 TO THE PIMAX CRYSTAL IN 2023? 3 HOURS LATER!
In this exciting 4-hour-long video, we dive into a side-by-side comparison of the HP Reverb G2 and the Pimax Crystal QLED, two popular VR headsets in the market. We leave no stone unturned as we explore every aspect that matters to VR enthusiasts, including through-the-lens footage, graphics, gameplay, tracking, comfort, weight, and hardware features.
Both headsets have their strengths and weaknesses, and we'll break down the differences to help you make an informed decision. The HP Reverb G2, known for its outstanding optics with Fresnel lenses and a resolution of 2160x2160 per eye, shines with its 90 Hz refresh rate and 98° horizontal field of view. Meanwhile, the Pimax Crystal QLED boasts some serious improvements, featuring aspheric lenses, a 160 Hz refresh rate, and an impressive 120° diagonal field of view.
Comfort is a vital factor in long VR sessions, and we compare the headsets' build quality and material, along with their respective headstrap designs. Additionally, we discuss the controllers' ergonomics and tracking capabilities, comparing the 6 DoF inside-out tracking via integrated cameras in both headsets.
The Pimax Crystal QLED takes the lead with its eye-catching QLED display and incredible 160 Hz refresh rate. But does that mean you should upgrade from the HP Reverb G2 to the Pimax Crystal in 2023? Our in-depth analysis aims to help you decide.

Thanks for watching today's video on whether you should upgrade from the Hp Reverb G2 to the Pimax Crystal. Link to the Pimax Website G2 Event pimax.com/crystal_g2/ What would convince you to upgrade? What it missing for you in your G2? Let's spark the conversation below
On my Reverb G2 I need to turn down the display brightness & add blue light filter. Why are simple things like this not an option?
the only blogger with whom I do not use playback acceleration
lol
went from the g2 to the crystal and its great way way better than the g2
I have 5 vr headsets and honestly all the pixel peeping spec sheet stuff does not matter much always just put my index (i only use reverb g2 for my driving sims)back on as its most comfy and least software crap to deal with and hopefully when i get bigscreen beyond it will replace it.
Very good review, I think the Pimax will suit gamers who play Fs2020 all the time, like me 🙂
Dear VR Essentials,
Can you recomend this Pimax Crystal headset just for room scale VR? Shooter - Skyrim VR , Fallout VR Hubris , Hellsplit Arena ect..
I have a Reverb G2 and i can handle the room scale VR but i would like to get a better picture quality.
Thanks this answer in advance,
havent tested with RPG games, not sure I want too its a little heavy for that
I only play Skyrim (heavily modded with ENB) and Fallout. Huge upgrade from Reverb G2. I do have a 4090. I have no issue with the weight I actually added a little more to the back for balance.
It's ok for these games, definitely works but turning your head fast is a bit awkward because of the momentum from the weight. If you can put up with that this really is years beyond the quality of the G2.
i havent watched your video, and i can tell you, as an g2 and pimax crystal owner, NO. G2 is a complete product, pimax has still no ET and most of the other features that are shown on the site when you want to buy it. do not waste your money and time!
I have reverb g2 and crystal and only one - for me i weight of Crystal, all other is great i love Ctystal for simracing, to much better than G2.
I have eye tracking
Ok, the G2 isn't horrible but the Pimax has really improved. I just installed mine and had no issues. The difference in quality in terms of visuals is day and night. The local dimming also really helps the contrast... And the G2 has a really average fov. If I try any headset under 100 fov it feels poor.
I used the VRBALANCE and it's better because it's a pu leather and stays cool.
nice!
The studioform comfort strap is a must. Takes weight off the front. I also stuck the 100g weight from my g2 on the crystal to further balance it. I have arthritus in my neck and it really got me without those, now I can wear it for hours. It's still being worked and and Pimax is a small company. I'm not completely satisfied but can't go back to the G2 now. As much flak as Pimax get, why haven't the bigger companies with far more resources stepped up to produce something as good as what this promises? Maybe because they are more worried about maximizing profits for shareholders over inovation. Valve as a private company is probably your best bet, but they operate on Valve Time. FYI, was really on the fence and actually requested a refund but decided to keep it.
I’ll give you a wide berth if I see you racing 👀
What GPU are you using for the Pimax Crystal ?
2070 nvidia
@@vressentials I have a RTX 3070 and I7-10700F do you think this system is good enough for the Crystal if I dial down the settings for FS2020.
Would like to see someone test the crystal on a fast motion sim, as I afraid all that weight with fast motion would make it move around on your face.
lol 😂
I'm not upgrading to anything I can't easily find prescription lenses for.
I got perscription lenses fit the Crystal. But also works with my glasses too so it's an issue. Weirdly is also the only headset that if I don't have any glasses or perscription it still looks good
I nearly bought a Pimax 8k x but decided to stick with my G2 for now. The Pimax seems to need a lighthouse for tracking, more expense, and only has a 4.5m cable where the G2 has 6m. If you like to move around from room to room I prefer the freedom the G2 has.
They sell 6m 8kx fibreoptic separately. Yes obviously it is far more expensive, for a far better experience.
Just wait for the 12k Pimax scheduled early 2024
@@clayton4115 and a gpu that can run it?
@@Avetorro hahaaha yeah RTX 5090 maybe.
@@clayton4115 can you sli them?
Some things i noticed when I went back to my G2 is that the vertical FOV is much narrower. I never even considered that being a big deal but WOW! When I put on the gas mask in Alyx I can always see its still on. I didn't realize how hot the G2 gets on your face, not that the Crystal is cool, but much better than G2. Hope we get an option to crank the fans up, I'm old and can't hear them so won't bother me.
i think i will wait till the 12 k pimax comes out its 70^ there and at the g2 show is it end of year there showing i think not be out till next year but they say it be a lot better than the crystal
Sounds exciting!
Why hasnt anyone made a headset that people will actually want.?
So frustrating that this headset has a pointless battery a weights so much... without the battery this could have been much cheeper and lighter and would probably take over the vr world
The standalone should have been optional
True!
It would be front heavy. I actually added a little bit of weight to the back to get perfect balance. My Quest 2 with the vrbalance counterweight weighs more and is the most comfortable headset. Balance is more important than weight. Trust me.
Lovely to see my country on the list to pay later xperience , lol.
But i dont think we should buy something if we dont have the money...just wait and save money or wait for an offer.Look at quest pro how its price changed, :D
Very true!
I returned my Crystal same day I received it. To much uncomfortable
I sold my G2 years ago. Had a horrible small sweet spot and a pathetic fov. Pimax #1
@@claybomb1064
Pimax Crystal costs 5 times G2.
@@claybomb1064
About the sweet spot you are right but the FOV of the G2 with the FOV gasket mod is only 7 degrees lower than the Crystal FOV.
I have the vrbalance comfort strap and added extra weight to the back to get perfect balance. 3 hours of Skyrim a night and have no issues with weight.
@@claybomb1064true, I tried going back to my G2 after using the psvr2 extensively... That low fov is a game killer. I felt like I was playing through a pair of binoculars. I literally just bought the crystal cause I can't go back to low fov.
No :)
Yes! Pimax #1 🇨🇳
