Dear Russian friends don't even think coming to Italy or Spain to live because you will be deeply disappointed. We have much unemployment and low salaries, you will find hard living in southern Europe. Come for holidays instead if you can, so that you can enjoy the country without worrying about paying the rent. I dream of holidaying in Russia instead. Hopefully after covid I will.
@@antidote234 There are no problems in America with jobs and low salaries as long as you're not of those coastal idiots who waste their life in universities going in debt for useless degrees in liberal arts, women studies, humanities, etc... Blue collar and white collar jobs that actually give you a proper skills that you can use and people demand will get you far here and open many doors for you. America's job growth has been increasing since Trump was elected, and it's still growing under Biden, and our hourly salaries are also increasing. Be wise with your choices and you can live a very comfortable life here.
I lived and worked in Russia when it was still the Soviet Union. I lived in Leningrad, now St. Petersburg, and was there during the coup of August 1991 and after. Those were terrible times for the ordinary Russian citizen, especially the elderly and vulnerable. It is so much better now, but could be better still, if the oligarchs were not robbing the Russian people blind and bleeding the wealth out of the country. I do hope that at some point the rampant corruption is dealt with.
So far I have enjoyed all of your videos, but this is hands-down my favorite. You approach this like a journalist and you asked the right questions. The people you interviewed seemed very comfortable speaking to you, and they were very genuine with their answers. Keep up the great content!
Thank you. I learned a lot. Eli what you said is so wise. Furthermore, we are ALL moving into a new age in history everywhere. Everything is going to change a lot pretty much everywhere. I really like the people you interviewed -- really good, solid, thoughtful people. If you asked the same question today of people in America many would say the exact same thing about the government and about corruption.
The capitalist system Russia has these ppl have no future. Low wages mass exploitation 14/16 hours a day and so on. Why would the younger generation want to live like that? Would you live like that? Russia is a third world shithole only working for the rich oligarchs.
Eli: Keep making your very interesting videos. It is interesting to hear the opinions of Russians of your generation. I have a suggestion: You should do another video just like this one to see if people's opinions have changed in the last three years.
Coming from Germany and having moved to Cyprus, I can tell it is true. You do not leave your past or your problems in your country. You face new opportunities and you might find a career or even love abroad. When you move to another country, be aware of what you expect and what the other country offers. There is always pros and cons. As for Russia, I know their salaries are much lower than the ones in the EU countries and their public admin is - as they say - working against their population. I hear this a lot from Russians who emigrated to Cyprus and enjoy more personal freedom here. I myself found the environment in Cyprus more free in comparison towards Germany. I can speak my opinion free here, I can chose products that are either higher taxed or restricted and I can live with way less regulation and surveillance. Also, I have not that much of control by the government. The downside is that the country is less developed and things need to be imported, else you get to buy shit. Also, public admin here and banks are like in Germany of the early 1970s. 50 years behind! Let alone houses and buildings, who have standard of the 1950s - 1960s, unless you build with imported materials. As for Russia as for any country, my recommendation is simply to keep in mind: the rich will always dodge taxes. There is no way to make them fund a government. The state always depends on the local employed people, who pay taxes on income and contribute from their salaries to the government institutions. That plus the Value Added Tax on goods and services is what you have. The broader your middle class and the more purchase power it has, the more advanced and the more stabil as well as the more positive your state becomes. So make them be able to start a family, to fund a house, to buy a car and give them their annual holiday and to have them enjoy a good consumer lifestyle. Else, your people become depressed and leave. Once especially the well-educated and specialized leave, your brain drains out. Many governments forget to be there to serve their people and not to be given money for nothing.
these sick kids (that are minority here) want the salaries like in USA (for doing nothing and not working at all), but they keep ignoring that the ratio of income to cost of life/rent/bills in Russia vs USA is identical, the same.
My sister and friends in US and AUS for the last 30 years could confirm it. Emigration has its price, and there is no return back to your own country, you'd be an imigrant again in your country.
Absolutely beautiful. I love that you can hear they have asked themselves these questions before and know in their heart how they feel. I feel really hopeful for the future of Russia with such a self-aware youth with clear aspirations. Love from Denmark ❤
A lot of good answers but I think people still need to let go the stereotypes, I left my country because of war not day goes by I miss it. I lived in different countries over the years and I think everyone can live anywhere as long as they are happy and they love what they doing. Cheers
@@usernamename2978 It's okay for a man to feel emotions. It's healthy. I'm still hoping the best for Russian youth, especially that they come to experience civic freedom in their lifetimes.
No. It's thinking of people. They elect governments or are stupid or passive enough to let dictatorship or some political group to override their freedoms and silence opinions. Needs educated people to elect educated government. In the end it's me and you who vote or let take your vote or opinion away who are responsible for good government. Stop blaming governments!
Government is the embodiment of people. If you have uneducated, prejudiced and selfish people, you will get incompetent, authoritarian and corrupt government.
As a US citizen .............. there's one thing I have to say about what I've seen about my impression of Russians. They seem genuine! So many Americans are so fake and materialistic. Russian people seen genuinely honest (sometimes brutally so) but what you see is what you get. So many games in the US and a culture is in full on decline. The Russians seem to have a strength of character and fortitude that many of us here lack. I'd be much more interested in moving to Russia!

I think Russians are some of the most engaged, compassionate, creative, perceptive, attractive, diverse and formidable people in the world, and they have always deserved better than what their government has given them.
The Russian Federation today is threatened less by radical Islamists than by “hundreds” of Satanist groups, totalitarian and extremist organizations that seek to “destroy” “centuries-old human values,” engage in “ritual murders,” and currently involve “several million” Russians, according to a senior researcher at the Russian Interior Ministry.

I lived in England for 43 years and suffered from the cold wet damp winters. I now live in Western Australia and the difference is outstanding. I love the warm climate. Our coldest day temperature in winter would be a rare 12 degrees in Perth. So I can see why people would want to move to or emigrate to somewhere warmer. It expands your lifestyle. Life isn't that long so the better lifestyle the more enjoyable life. Yes, It is true. People are much kinder and happier here.
What are the hottest days you experience there? I am Canadian and we sometimes experience 35C and very high humidity but I think Australia is even hotter. But we can also get -30C or even colder in the west and north of the country.
@@hughmungus1767 depends on where you live Hugh. On the East coast, you can get anywhere from -7 in Winter in some places, to 45c! Central Australia can get hotter than this. Global warming is changing our beautiful country and not for the better - shorter Winters, longer Summers, increasing bushfire risks and the severity is worsening too, rainfall is becoming more sporadic - less in normal rainfall and more clumped up into shorter periods of heavy rainfall with storms. most of the Eastern seaboard major cities will be between 0 and 40c on average (Winter minimum overnight to Summer maximum during the day) with small variations based on where you live. I live in Brisbane, and it can get down to -2 on a cold morning in Winter, and as high as 46/47 on really HOT days in Summer. Average Summer days are in the mid 30s, sometimes the high 30s, but for the most part, mid 30s is pretty common. We do get short periods of heatwaves, where temperatures are in the low to mid 40s. Brisbane, in Summer, can have quite warm and humid nights too - it's not uncommon in Summer to have an overnight minimum of 24c @ 85% humidity. It becomes rather draining, at least for me. I come from a European background, and my genetics were *never* made for the Australian heat and I HATE our Summers. I much prefer our cooler months. Most of the rest of Australia is pretty similar, most of the time, to Brisbane. Some places, mostly rural, can get hotter though, and a lot of rural areas are suffering from long standing drought now, especially with our weather patterns changing due to global warming. It is predicted that we'll rise by at least another degree (on average) between now and 2050 and that Summers will become even longer, bushfire threats even worse than they are now, and storms more violent. Hope this helps answers some of your questions.
I am not from Australia but too much heat and too much sun can also be depressing , like an entire month worth of 50C and high temps constantly above 45C for nearly 6 months of the year , it aint good that's for sure .

Hello Eli! I stumbled on your videoes, and they have confirmed my view of the Russian people! Cultured and thoughtful. The interviews in the would you leave Russia, is so thoughtful. It makes my heart cry for your country, that the transition from Communism after 1990 ended up, by a few stealing from the many. Whith a people as educated and resillient as yours. And with your countries abundance of Natural resources you should be a great power, but it appears that the Oligarks are allowed to steal way to much from the people of Russia. As a pilot, I have crossed your country many times. Now that I am retired, I look foreward to come and visit. And see the places that I just passed over. And your videoes made me want to visit even more. Thank you.
Very interesting video. I left my native country (Netherlands) in 2006. After that I have lived in Ukraine, Belgium, Cyprus, Bulgaria and now Lithuania. And I thought about it for a long time, but I really can't think of anything of which I say it's better in the Netherlands. Neither can I imagine myself ever going back there. There's no such thing as a perfect country, thus searching for perfection makes no sense. The question is whether a country is good enough for the purpose one went there. Usually for me the trade-off was life or business. Lithuania is the only country in my list of which I say that it complies with my standards for both life and business.
Hi Eli, thanks. I have been watching all of your videos unexceptionally from the very first post of your video. This year, I am coming to Russia to Carry on my study. This was very enlightening! Americans do smile a lot... it's true 😂 I guess it's part of our culture. It's true that many countries have good and bad things that we experience. It was nice to hear young people who have pride in their country. The thing I heard most in these interviews is that they want to introduce a bit of change in their lives. The idea of keeping things the same as they were 10, 20 or even 50 years ago is lost among the young adults. Change refreshes society.
I live in New York City and I would say corruption and rottenness is here too. A change of place gives you a fresh perspective and then you realize that every place is the same place just slightly different in a different location. It's also better if you meet someone to love.🤗

Привет из Аласка! Interesting subject and I enjoyed the interviews. Political corruption is everywhere, we can't run from it! We need to try to solve our own problems as best we can. The grass is definitely greener in Costa Rica but I only go there to visit and thaw out 😂
Can you please elaborate. I met someone from Costa Rica back in 1998 and he advised me to save up my money and move there. As with most things in life, regrets come later as I did not heed his advices. he was alot older probably in his early 40's at the time I met him and he was saving up for his 3rd home and was going to retire there. I was told that Latin America is getting a huge influx of foreigners, particularly Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama and Colombia which has made the demand of housing go up. This youtuber Ace Live has been living in Colombia for over 1 year and has decided to stay there. Colombia has made incredible changes since the 1970's and 1980's which at that time were a very violent place due to the drug situation. What are the laws of foreigners owning property in Costa Rica? What are their laws in regards of self-defense and firearms ownership? How long can someone stay in Costa Rica as a non-resident? Thank-you for any info you can share. All the best to you.

Many whom I know would like to emigrate to somewhere, just escape from all the political polarization. For me, departing would be awfully difficult -- I'm just too old! Also, like many of the folks you interviewed in Russia, this is still my country, where I'm accustomed to all the mores of living, our customs, culture, language, etc. Even McDonalds! Part of Russia's decline in population has to do with demographics, with the immense number of people (mostly men) who were killed in World War 2. It passes on to successive generations. A terrible tragedy! However, I believe that with all of its cultural and natural resources and immense amount of space, Russia has a great future ahead!

Most of these kids have no understanding of what living in other countries would be like. They grew up in apartments and houses their families got for free from the government, got fantastic education for free, good medical care for super cheap, etc., they don't understand that there's only a handful of countries that could offer them a comparable standard of social security (but at higher taxes too). They don't understand that moving, say to Western Europe, would mean they'd need to consider property ownership (buying a studio apartment in Amsterdam would set them back about $150,000-$300,000 and even more in a major city in US), paying a huge sum to get their kids an education they'd expect in Russia, facing Russophobia in the workforce regardless of their political stance (surprise-surprise, people won't respect you more for saying you hate Putin), same if not worse treatment from the government. They base their opinions on one-week tourist trips, Instagram posts, movies and the self deprecating West-worshipping disease of Perestroika that post-Soviet Gen X was infected with.

The people don’t feel like they have control of their own country, and many don’t feel safe committing/investing into a future in Poland.
Very interesting perspective. I am in the US and think Vladimir Putin is moving Russia in the right direction. People are short sighted. The US has its own problems. Stay in Russia and be thankful for your unique country. Wherever you go there you are.
There are some things Putin is doing that makes sense, but playing with the US is a waste of time. The US needs to check out of Europe and leave that to the western European governments. China should be the sole focus in regards to military policy along with economic policy.
Let’s put it this way, if you struggled to pay the rent and the big employers around you kept shutting down, you would move too. Russia has a massive problem with GDP loss and economic decline. Unlike in the USA where you can skip to the next State, in Russia, Moscow controls all economic policy so all the provinces suffer from the same set of policies.
Letting your friends steal money from the budget and kill political opponents is moving in the right direction? We in Russia cannot even elect mayors of cities, they are appointed by Putin. And of course all mayors must be loyal to Putin and support his policies. As long as Putin is in power, Russia will be poor and backward.

As someone who lived in both western and eastern Europe I can tell you that life is better in the West. Most of youth that fled East are doing it not just because of money but also because whole system and society in the East is toxic, people do not want to live in system where corruption, embezzlement and despoilment are highest moral values, where majority of people can't survive the month because salaries are 1/3 of 1/2 of those in Germany while the prices in supermarkets are higher than those in Germany, where retired people have to collect plastic bottles and dig in a trash in order to survive, where system kill any kind of incentive because in order too success you have to be member of political party, lick higher ranking members assholes and pay large sums of money to politicians, where people have to collect money for sick children despite universal healthcare we all pay, where hospitals look like hell etc. etc.

These are normal looking everyday young girls according to Slavic standards, not ugly at all, but I wouldn't honestly describe any of them as especially or strikingly beautiful. They are young, healthy and natural looking young women, who do take care of themselves. Such looks are actually norm for young women in Slavic countries. Eli, I like your channel. I like your style of interviewing people like a journalist while weaving in history and observations. This was a good video. I have one recommendation. While it is important to interview young people try to get out of your comfort zone and also interview people in the 30-50 age group. This will add good perspective to the views of the teens through 20s age group. Also, I liked how you finished the video talking about the grass is greener elsewhere syndrome ( universal) and how there is no perfect place and problems and challenges are wherever you are - and a natural part of life. It is all about how we react to and deal with the natural difficulties of life wherever we live! Keep up the good work!

Then there is a small area where politicians and their aides hang out and work. The two groups do not intermingle. Americans smiling is not fake it’s just what we do.
@Karl Zaraiva they are for the most part “fake “ you can say. For example, you can be having a bad day, but still end up smiling at someone and giving them a nod or a hello to be courteous. It’s just a way we remain courteous and respectful to others. Doesn’t mean you have to stop your whole day for that person , or even like the person , or even get to know the person. It’s just a quick smile , a wave , a quick “how you doing “ and move on. Who knows it might even make someone’s day .

it sure does look like a beautiful country. The language is beautiful, although I don't speak any Russian, I can appreciate it.
Eli: Keep making your very interesting videos. It is interesting to hear the opinions of Russians of your generation. I have a suggestion: You should do another video just like this one to see if people's opinions have changed in the last three years.
Very true. thanks for the video!
i love you russia plus.

Corruption it's when you pay for roads but have no roads. It's when you pay for healthcare, but you don't have a healthcare. It's when you pay for education, but have no education. It's when you pay politics but you can't choose one. It's when you pay your soldiers to protect your country but they fight on the foreign soil. It's when president considers that middle class-- it's $200. It's when people take credits to send their children to public schools. It's trash mountains around cities.
Bingo!
amen.
I'm from a developing country as well, just as Russia and I could say that I will never live in USA, that place is a huge scamm, yes there's a los of money but the life model is based on consumerism, drugs and selfishness.
When people from Poland and Russia tell me about how shitty their countries are, I laugh hahahaha their life standards are much better than anywhere.
They persuee an "western life" but they don't realize that they have access to education, food, safe countries, clean cities, good transportation, cheap medicine and a good social welfare.
I don't deny that there are huge problems such as lack of a strong currency or good salaries as well as corruption but they should stop thinking about west as a paradise, is not
@@trujilloroldancarlosarturo4281 Russia is not a developing country 😂
Also situation with corruption is much better now in Russia than 20 years ago, and in fact better than most European countries, not to mention US.
Polish are facing entirely different issues in comparison to Russia - they are living in a US vassal state, with power almost completely seized by foreign adversaries who don’t care about the welfare and future of the people.
Check Russian GDP per capita in the last decade if you think he's moving Russia in the right direction.
Yes, You are right. Putin is definitely moving in the right direction. Realigned all old Countries from the USSR back in the Federation, reoccupied Crimea, now wants back Ukraine...
Such beautiful people. I could feel the spirit of each and every one of the people you interviewed. I wish them all a lot of happiness in life. Love from Australia ❤
Exactly. Australia's standard of living is delclining, ruined by corruption and a general dumbing down of the population. The mainstream media are a joke that peddle woke ideology and the narrow views of rent seekers.
It is a different world today than when I was in my 20's (1970's). Moving to another country was not as easy then. While there may be some obstacles, I believe with the internet, it is far easier to learn and overcome them. Meeting people in the world and travel for tourism before making a decision. But you are correct Elina if you want change you have to start with yourself. Politicians are the same all around the globe so we cannot rely on them it is up to the people to make the change.
