In this video I talk about how to examine the DK planet, which is a planet that represents your spouse or partner. This is a precise and complete instructional video that will allow you to make interpretations on your horoscope about your spouse or partner.
If you've already studied the critical planet that represents your spouse, which, if you're a woman, Jupiter is going to represent your man and if you're a man, Venus is going to represent your wife or woman. And that's the same for everybody - every man has Venus as a wife and every woman has Jupiter as a husband or man in her life. It's a gender-dependent thing because we have gender, but also, as people, we're all very individual.
So one person hopes for and seeks for and falls in love with a different quality in another person. Did you use my chart calculator? YOu need to do that and see all the exact aspects in the rasi chart as I mention in the video. Do not look for these aspects in the D9, and don't forget to check your Mercury's sign in the D7 as well.

Aspects and conjunctions are completely different things. Saturn will help the friends he aspects, but not those he joins, so Saturn aspecting venus helps venus, but Saturn conjunct venus hurts him.
hey Ernst lets say if moon darakaraka is conjunct with sun but moon is also a vargottama darakaraka , its in the same sign in both d1 and d9 chart which is moon in cancer . Now vargottama darakaraka is known for being powerful enough to cancel out any negetive effects , so will sun's ngetive effect be cancelled through a position like this.

It is parivartana, but does not matter in this case. What does matter is that mars is sleeping and mars sleeps in a friends house, so while he cannot do anything by his own power, he can do things based on the power of his friend the Moon, who is not sleeping. In your experience, Can 7th house also represent a life partner without marriage? I ask because my current boyfriend fits both descriptions of my 7th house lord and DK - Every thing from how we met to his parents/family and his chart fits me and my family's description as well. However, He is not interested in marriage (I have Aquarius 7th house) Not only that but I ordered your compatibility report and it was horrible (for us as a couple) - however, my D1 & D9 indicates a difficult marriage. 7th house is any partner, marriage or not. 7th house has nothing to do with the legal bond, that is the 9th house. 7th house the marriage that takes place upon intercourse, so even getting raped is indicated by a troubled 7th house and the planets active at the time will describe the rapist.
Ernst Wilhelm Thank you for your reply, but I'm confused because I thought the 7th house represented your spouse, the one you actually marry. I thought navamsa showed more description of the spouse and the condition of the marriage. So does the D9 chart describe any live in or long term relationship, married or not? mshighconcept 7th house is anyone a person has sex with. D9 is the institute of marriage and 7th there will indicate the spouse in conjunction with the regular 7th.

I'm looking at my boyfriend's D9 chart and Venus is debilitated in Virgo but receiving an aspect from Mercury in Pisces (14.34 degrees) and Mercury is his DK which makes it a mutual aspect. Does that give balance to the marriage in some way?
Look at aspects and conjunctions only in D1 as per the aspect table in my chart calculator at www.vaultoftheheavens.com then mercury in the first 15 degrees of pisces is sleeping so it will not be able to help. But make sure you use my chart calculator or else it will be different.

I did not expect to be so affected by the negative numbers I got from these calculations. My darakaraka is Jupiter, who is in a comatose state. While before I did the calculations, I thought that having a spiritual life is a good solution to the problem, now that I have done the calculations, I am not so encouraged that the spiritual life is a solution I can trust. Spiritual life is not always in our hands because even prayer is a gift from god or the gods. This experience has allowed me to understand why people would trust amulets.

Hello Ernst I have a question for you- your chart is represented int he Vedic Form which follows the Sidereal Planetry positions not the Western Planetry positions (which is based on seasons) right? If that is the case then according to the sidereal planetry positions my Vedic Chart is different from the one I bought from your website. The one I bought from your website is based on the Western (seasonal) adjustments. Could you please let me know if the sidereal astrology (where each sign is NOT equal in size) that is more accurate or your Western planetry positions? I am truly confused. Thank you. That' s so true about DK Saturn people! I have strong ideas of what I want and I know immediatly if it' s going to work for me or not. That' s great way of geting rid of wrong ones. No, ignore joining planets in the D9 and D7, but consider the joining planets in D1.

Mercury is in my 1st house and actually its only conjunct with jupiter 1st house. Eventho venus have the same degree with jupiter in the 1st house. Not only mercury jupiter and venus in the first house, but sun moon also. But sun moon is very far away from mercury. Its 20ish degree apart.
I hope with this, sun moon are not affecting mercury.

I have saturn sitting with venus and my darakaraka (mars) in the rasi, all in aquarius. Does what you say about making sacrifices in certain parts of your behavior/life apply when saturn conjuncts them? Luckily, venus/mars are in good shape in the D7/9. (Im a guy)
Saturn joined with your DK and mars will cause your woman to be "starved" meaning they will be lacking in some ways and so make relationships less rewarding.

It depends on what planet it is, but it will mean that there is some part of your spouse that does not satisfy you and that can cause you to stray it its really bad.

In D7 saturn is in Sagittarius with retro mars in 9th house but there is parivartana with Jupiter which is in Capricorn in 10th house.In D9 Saturn and Jupiter are conjunct in Aries in 5th house but Mars is in Scorpio.Should that be considered as neechabhanga ? +Anjana Prahallad Rao : The way u explained is little confusing but if I get it right than ur saturn is in Saggi in 9th house and ur Jupiter is in 10th house in capri that is not a neech bhanga but if moon is exalted or sitting opposite to jup than it is also even if saturn or mars is exalted which is not in ur case so no neech bhang . and in d9 saturn is in aries so that is also debilitated but even after this that will help u in ur married life!!!!!

yes, look in both genders. Its because those are the more important planets in those two charts.

Venus is more important in the D9 than in the D7 and Jupiter is more important in the D7 than in the D9, so if both those more important things are solid, the person will do well with their partner.
So DK is only from D1 or Navamsa as well? Can there be different darakaraka in D1 and D9?

I went to your site vault of the heavens to do my chart & I saw a bunch of other charts numbered yet, they are not named which number correlates to which chart.
Hi Ernst, any input on me having a trashed Jupiter (I commented on your other video) but having an exalted darakaraka in D7 and D9? The moon is in Taurus in D7 and Cancer in D9 with Mercury. Maybe it just means my spouse will only be fulfilling in the "comforting" aspect?
That can get you a decent partner, not everything you want, but good enough to keep. Moon is a nice planet to have as the DK when it is good as it can make the person a great companion, but with a bad Jupiter, not a companion that gives you everything that you want.
@Ernst Wilhem: What about planets that are ruled by two signs? I have darakaraka in mercury (in gemini) with no enemies. Would it mean that the spouse has either a significant gemini or virgo placement in his chart?
Possibly, or some other strong mercury theme.
I read somewhere that the name or first few letter of the spouse could be found using nakshatras. Some say it is the the sounds of the nakshatra that the lord of the nakshtra that the 7th lord resides in which gives the clue. So for example, for a woman with a scorpio 7th house, mars residing in purvaphalguni and venus the lord of purvaphalguni in punarvasu, the first letter of the husband would be some variant of kay, ko, haa, hee sounds which belong to punarvasu. Is this correct or should we look at the nakshatra for jupiter (for a woman) or the nakshatra that the 7th lord lands in (so purvaphalgni in the above case & sounds like tee, too). Also, what about for men? Do we just look a the nakshatra for venus or do we again look at the 7th house lord. Could you please clarify? Thanks a bunch.
Mel Blacke Its not possible. Its obviously not possible because there are more constantant/verb pairs in sanksrit than the 108 nakhatra pada sounds, so many names are not even covered by the nakshatra padas and those people will marry and it won't be shown in the chart. THe one thing that can be done is to find the spouse planets and the spouse first letter only can be guessed via the type of letters ruled by the planet. So vowels are ruled by sun, gutterals by mars, dentals by Jupiter, Palatals by Venus, Retroflexes by Mercury, Saturn labials and moon semi-vowels, aspirants and sibilants. It takes some Sanskrit grammar knowledge to figure this out.

I checked with my parents names and they dont match up according to the description I've given above. In regard to the spouse planets, which one should we take? the lord of the nakshatra pada of the ascendant or venus or moon or 7th lord? +Lara Mathison There are a lot of planets that have to do with the spouse, but in different ways. The spouse as a conscious entity in your life is indicated by the DK and Venus if a man or Jupiter if a women. The 7th lord represents the spouse as t hey journey through their life just as your lagna lord represents you on that journey. The lords of those planets and the nakshatra lords do not represent the spouse at all - they are only examined so as to complete the examination of the planets that are spouse planets.

Hi Ernst, mine is the opposite of Buruku2, trashed Dk Sun (in Aquarius in D1 and D7 and Scorpio in D9) but okay enough Jupiter (in Cancer in D1,Pisces in D7 and Libra in D9). What are your thoughts on this??
Sounds average, but you need to use my chart calculator and calculate aspects to the sun and Jupiter to know for sure.

Hi Ernst...thanks for such an informative video...I watched it few months ago but one question came to my mind recently after going through your lectures on astrology videos......in many cases the DK is under 6 degrees and in an odd sign...this means it's MRITA in baladi avastha...it gets low or 0 score in shad bala...even if this planet is in good dignity...good sign...would it have any effect or not because its just mrita...

It can be fine, depends on the full conditions of Saturn and the influences to the 7th. But 7th lord in 6th will always cause some delay or obstacle to marriage. House position never makes or breaks a planet, it only makes it easier or harder to bring to fruition, what makes or breaks a planet is its condition.
Is it worthwhile to look at a partner's chart for this stuff? Or is that in vain since everyone says "you can only control and choose for your life"? And what if a person ends up with as you say 'both genders' Venus and Jupiter for the two parts of spouse in astrology? Is that contradictory?

hi ernst , when I entered the details in your free chart report. . all my charts and atmakaraka and amatyakaraka have changed totally .. why is that ? is your software totally correct?
I use different calculations than most other vedic astrologers, though there is two groups in India that does some of the calculations the same way as I do. So yes, if I was reading your chart, that is how I would calculate it, which is why I made the chart calculator for people. I use tropical rasis with sidereal nakshatras as there as that is what the Indian astronomy books previous 600AD are doing. I tested that versus sidereal rasis for 2 years, after having used sidereal rasis for 12 years, but tropical rasis tested out better with every technique so in 2007 I made the switch. Try the technique with my calculations and with what you have gotten in other software and see what makes more sense with your life.

yes ernst I tested out the rasi chart just after I had got it using your software and it really made much more sense . so I will be going with your software only .. previously in other normal softwares I had venus in virgo in 2nd house in d-1 chart , but now I have venus in libra in 3rd house , not a debiliated sun anymire i mean oh my god what else do i need so I am happy ..
Also your software says that my jupitar dasha is starting from March 2017 , but from other softwares shows that jupitar dasha will start from October 2018 .. So I should go with your software with hope that my jupitar dasha is starting from March 2017 only . right ??

I have one general question...hope you would clarify me regarding my query. What if the Darakaraka and Seventh lord exchange signs in D1 AND D9 Chart. For example in a particular chart with Virgo Lagna/ASC , 7th lord is Jupiter and he is placed in sign Aquarius. Darakaraka Venus is in Taurus (9th house). In Navamsa/D9 Chart 7th lord Jupiter is in Taurus and DK Venus is in Aquarius. I mean in D1 they are in each others Navamsa (D9) Sign and in D9 , they are in each others D1 Sign. What impact it would be in a person's married and romantic/intimate life and what else it signifies about love partner or spouse?

Hi Ernst, thank you for your research and efforts. I have two questions:
1) I have 29:36 degree Sun in Virgo and 00:07 Saturn in Libra (both infant). It seems that in Vedic astrology the moment that signs change, there can be no combustion. Saturn happens to be my DK and my Lagna lord in Rasi and Navamsa and very close to the Sun (always in different signs though) in all three charts. Of course I would be happier if it weren't burned (cause my Jupiter in Virgo is also burned), but I feel it to be so in my life. What is your take on combustion?
2) My Navamsa Jupiter is surprisingly good (Jupiter in Cancer in 7th house with Moon, though also rules 12th house, functional malefic). But my Sun in Virgo in the 9th house is conjunct with Rahu in the very same degree (26) and ruling Mercury opposes this duo with Ketu. Would that mean, thanks to this Pitra dosha and my stupidity, I am capable of failing in any kind of ashram, marriage included?

Combustion is based on degrees, not signs, so yes, Saturn is combust which makes Saturn weaker to produce. Sun Rahu in 9th opposite mercury and ketu in 3rd does not mean ashram life will fail. but 8th lord in 9th does indicate some change of direction in that department at some time. The important first thing to check is venus in the navamsa. And make sure you use my chart calculator, in case you are not...

Oh, I did use your chart calculator, in fact I probably would have stuck with western astrology if I hadn't encountered your chart style (tropical, as in western). One minor problem is that the common data pool used by automatic calculators (by astro.com or astrotheme.com, too) may be wrong (I found from local sources that in 1980, my birth year, we were using UT+3 time zone without DST, but calculators take it to be +4, so I have to change the birth hour to get 00.43 Capricorn ASC; I hope those local sources are correct)
As for Venus, in both Rasi and Navamsa it's in the 8th house in Leo, with Rahu in Rasi (no I'm not a prostitute!) and Rahu sliding into 9th in Navamsa. Maybe I just have to prepare for ups and downs if I want to have that Jupiter in Cancer Navamsa or stick with my Venus in Scorpio in the 5th and Jupiter in Leo in the 2nd Saptamsa!
Thank you for taking the time to read and reply and congratulations on your insight. In western astrology, if we saw Mercury-Jupiter together we'd instantly go "whoa genius" or for Venus-Jupiter "such great love", but you show this isn't always the case.

I was born in Istanbul, Turkey. The reason why there probably is incorrect information may be because we seem to have "experimented" with time zones and DST too much, e.g. between 1965-73 no DST, only +2 time zone; 1973-78 DST added; 1978-83, switch to +3 time zone, but no DST...(data coming from local astrologers' sites). Gathering up all these details for 100 countries might have been tedious business. I can't be sure which side is correct, what I do know is I thought I had Sag. rising for a good 5 years until I came across a program I had to manually fill, realized the discrepancy, then found out I was a goat :))
Likely the local sources are more correct than sources from another country. If you have a list of the time zones please email them to me.

I have also observed something else from darakaraka, That you will be surrounded by people who will be having their moon signs related to the signs which your darakaraka rules... Eg: if mercury is darakaraka then you will be surrounded with more of the people(family, friends..) who will be having Gemini moon or Virgo moon...
May be something to it cuz I have Darakaraka scorp mars and I attract a lot of aries particularly moons. I read mars Darakaraka attract people with sun moon or ascendant aries or scorpio

Saturn, even though exalted, will hurt the DK and thus create a lack of peace between spouse as stress will be heightened. CHeck moon for some friendly influence to help it out.
Also sir, Should we not consider Awakening/ Sleepy state in Rashi Chart??!!........ also what if it is Sleepy but in Neech Bhang, is it Plus or Minus.

You just take the proportion it is in. So a navamsa is 3:20 degrees long, if a planet is in the middle of that 3:20 part, then in the navamsa chart it will be at 15 degrees in its sign.
Its a matter of different ayanamsas that create a different sidereal degree that creates a different starting date for your dasas. Jupiter is not always good, and Saturn not always bad.. it all depends on the individual planet and what influences it is under.

I was just wondering since you said to look at the 7th and 9th charts for the lowest degree Planet to find the Darakaraka and to a lesser degree the Rashi main chart...so if in my 7th chart, the Sun has the lowest degree and in the 9th chart Saturn has the lowest degree, while in the Rashi Mercury has the lowest degree, so should I focus on all 3 of them as Darakara or do you suggest just one of them?
Not exactly, find the lowest degree planet in the rasi chart, not including rahu or ketu. Then take that planet and look at it in the D7 and D9.
Ernst Wilhelm So in the rasi chart, the lowest degree planet is Mercury at 00:27 and in D7 Mercury is 03:09 and in D9 Mercury is 04:03 but there are the Sun in D7 with a lower degree at 01:30 and in D9 Saturn at 01:34. Should I focus on the Mercury as the Darakaraka?

Mercury is my Dk but the moon is the lord of the house Mercury is in. Is that the same as aspect or conjunction by the moon? Does this mean I'm going to have a bad relationship with the spouse?
Lily9 Yes, Mercury in Cancer is going to suffer some, but more importantly check it in the D7 and D9.

You have to calculate all the aspects out as I do on my chart calculator, so make sure you check all those aspects.

If a person has a Sun DK in Libra in the 2nd house ( which seems like a double whammy), how does one improve their chance of finding a good spouse? I've read the location of the Sun is where one shines and can find it's purpose. Should I focus 100% on financial stability first, and THEN on finding love? I don't know why one has to be completely sacraficed for the other.

I personally do not use asteroids, but you can incorporate them. I am not sure what you mean by using an ephemeris - all calculations are done with an ephemeris, but if you mean, looking up future positions of planets and comparing them to the horoscope, then yes, very much so.

Nice video Ernst! What if dk moon at 4 degrees is conjunct ketu in scorpio in d7? Even in the d9 moon is conjunct venus in the fifth in capricorn whereas in d1 its exalted. So it's getting kind of confusing. Would be nice if you could shed some light on it? Thanks

In vedic calculations I have Jupiter as my DK. In Tropical calculations I have Jupiter DK. Complete opposites! How can this be possible? Multiple marriages?
Yes, mars is DB in cancer, so he is sleeping and so unproductive all by himself. But since he is in a friend's sign he does get help from the Moon in moon antardasa and moon dasa.

Hey Ernst, considering that moon sees nobody as an enemy, does it mean that I don't need to subtract points per aspects? Say saturn and Venus aspects moon.
YEs, the moon has no enemies, so the only thing that hurts him is being debilitated, or joined with Saturn or the Sun as they heard any planet they join.

D7 (in ascendant with Mars 4 degrees away... ketu in 9th giving 5th aspect to DK),
D9 (in 12th opposite moon in aries in 6th)

As I was commenting in the Jupiter video, my Jupiter has 181 points, my DK is the sun, which is sleeping only in d7 in taurus, but sleepy in D1 and D9, and it is aspected strongly by jup, moon, and mars, and I only subtracted 58 for saturn. So even my DK is pretty good at 116. It is true that I have delays to my 7th, i have mars in 4, saturn in 5 and sun in 7...do you think that given the fact that jupiter and my dk are pretty good, eventually I will attract a good guy? I am 38 now and never been able to meet a good guy
