Hey please, do you know how to enable MIDI mapping of the "overdub" button ? I mean like, to trigger signal recording of one channel ? I don't know if this was very clear but I'm struggling with this, actually :'(
For all the 11-15 year olds on here that have watched a few martin garrix/diplo/trapnation covers using launchpads on youtube, this is a tool used for producing music. It's used as a controller when producing your own music on a DAW, lets you select different channels, control the pan, increase the attack, disable certain tracks, trigger sounds etc. All those 'covers' are is essentially people transferring different sounds from a song and activating the channels in a rehearsed fashion to recreate the song live. Note this is just one of the things that can be done with this controller and it isnt the main selling point at all. If youre gonna expect to be doing that shit without learning anything about music production or producing your own shit, then you shouldnt buy one at all. Thanks.
I'm not in your specified demographic, but I'm grateful for your comment! Does the mini allow scale-safe notes all lit up like the LP pro or push does? if yes, is there a way to toggle scale types on this, or just chromatic? Can you also use this to program drums and toggle tracks in session mode on ableton? It's just really unclear to me what this is capable of, and these intro videos don't say enough!

leomelgar21 the key is the daw (digital audio workstation). what he's doing is mapping the controls to actual sounds he's preloaded into his daw (drum racks) on separate instances.

Been looking at buying a synth for a couple of weeks now, as I wanted to be able to make music as well as DJ, pretty much brand new to this though, been using a Hercules Instinct for a year and a half but thats it, experimented slightly with FL and Magix as well. Was looking at a Mininova or Bass Station to link up to a Denon MC600MK2 as I Iove the acidic retro sound, however I've been really impressed with what you can achieve with the Launchpad, a Twitch and I imagine either Serato or Ableton, or both. Was wondering if you could use a vocoder with the latter setup and whether you'd require a soundcard, or whether the Mininova would work better with the Twitch. Any ideas?

looks like a fascinating piece of kit with alot of depth to it.
To all the kids that want to make music with that: Forget that thing! IT'S A CONTROLLER FOR ABLETON LIVE! Nothing more and nothing less. Easy to understand and very useful if you're an Aleton Live user.
This is not a toy!!! Nevertheless it can make a lot of fun if you know how to use it.

Trust me , it is also complicated to me when I bought one but after that i watched many tutorials and i learn how to play it slowly..
Same, everything about Pro Audio equipment makes me interested and excited but I have no use for it besides siting in my apartment and just jamming to myself.
So does anybody know if this thing can be used as a midi controller? Would work perfectly as a companion to Maschine Studio as a sort of piano roll. Already have a couple midi controllers (Axiom 49, Komplete Kontrol S49) But I just don't have the room with my setup.
I watched your tutorial and tested my new launchpad mini but in user mode 1 when i use drum rack the ligth doesnt work on each pad, and works in other functions but can you tell me please if i have to power on or some thing for works on drum racks, thx in advanced
@DJkit how did you do that with the midilearn?? i do'nt find a button in Ableton where i can record what i do into an empty slot... it's really the only thing I don't understand with the launchpad...

unfortunately you need to know a lot more about music and the different notes. My best friend is thinking of buying one. She has done music all her life so she knows all the notes and everything. I am in the process of trying to learn them so then I can move onto this.

do you know, if the Novation launchpad mini / mini mark II generally comes with a decent Ableton Live Version? with the new "simpler"?? I have got a couple of hardware samplers and a bunch of other DAWs... looking for a new USB pad controller today.

If you are working with the lite version of Ableton live 9 could you tell please whether for example the "Simpler" is included in Ableton Live Lite 9 and also about the quality of the bundled virtual instruments / effetcs and the quantity of the midi tracks and audio tracks.

Hey, I'd love this video to be a bit clearer on how it got to record the finger drum pattern into a clip. I'm able to play finger drum but can't have it recorded like in this vid. Talks about midi mapping or something... ?
Able to do it within Ableton with my mouse but it's tedious and not efficient.

I'm trying to figure out how to use lights to display sharps and flats for playing a piano. I think I can use lights to show "black and white " keys in user mode, but can't figure out how to have the link guys come on and stay on without me having to trigger them first. Anyone got any ideas or links they can share?
Do you have to download new tracks if you want new percussive sounds? If so where do you get them? And if you have to pay for new percussive sounds I'm out. I'm only asking cause I'm thinking of getting one for xmas but it seems so damn confusing!
What else do you need to get creative with this launchpad. Besides a laptop and I guess good speakers? Will the music you make be saved onto a file on the laptop and then downloaded to ipod? Getting for my kid but need to make sure I don't need to purchase some other expensive equipment for it to work. She's a beginner.
Don't buy it for your kid. You definitely need a computer and have to get used to specific software (Ableton Live). This is not a music instrument. It's a controller.
You need either Ableton Live (the Lite Version comes with the Launchpad) or the Launchpad App for Ipad. So yes, a Laptop or an IPad. The App is more of a gadget unless you start loading your own samples into it and to do so they have to be pre-recorded into something, which takes us back to Ableton Live. Ableton Live is a profesional tool for producers and musicians and might be a bit overwhelming for beginners but there's plenty of tutorials online. It's intuitive and very powerful and with the right skill it can be your best companion. In a nutshell, this unit is just a control interface for the real music making tool.
Don't get this for your kid.
Does the launchpad mini work with iPhone? I have a computer but I want it to be more portable than that. So I’m looking for launchers that don’t need computers. I have an iPhone7. Would this work and are there any better recommendations? Thanks!

I want to buy this for live performances as a looper because actual loopers are very much out of my price range.
I have a few questions about this.
1. Will this work properly in Garageband?
2. I have seen in other videos that it could be used for live recording too when it's plugged into a microphone or another midi controller. I won’t have any problem there, right?

Well, inducing mistakes. Functionality is not the same, there's no velocity sensivity. The grid being smaller, makes it a tidy bit harder to play. The pads have less quality when pressing. Even though they are really similar.

actually, i play both of those instruments and i produce trap/hardstyle so kinda just trumped you both xD. But its good there are actually some decent kids who know a thing or two about music and havent just got a launchpad for their birthday after watching an aviccii levels remix with one on yt lmao. Those kids make me cringe.

the ableton live (software) is available for Mac and Windows
