  • Tear in my rotator cuff forced me down the crossbow path. This is an honest personal review of the Wicked Ridge M-370 crossbow that I purchased to take with me on my annual Ohio hunting trip. I cover sighting in, using the accu-draw, shooting, hunting - even took my first whitetail with this crossbow, as well as some of the frustrations I went through with getting this thing setup.
    You can check out my 4 year follow up review on this crossbow here:

    I bought the same X-bow, yes, I had to fine tune it but I did so on a table and rest and fiddled with the speed ring. Once all was dialed in, it hasn’t failed me at all.
    Enjoy!!

      Greg - I am in SC and we have a VERY long archery season - Sept 15th - Jan 1st. I used the M-370 about 70% of the time I was hunting my property. Used it in a variety of stands, hang ons, climbers and ladders and ground setups. I used it a lot and hauled it up and down trees a lot. I also used it for a solid week hunting in OH. At the end of the season I had harvested 3 deer with it. It is still in just as good as condition as it was when I bought it. I am very happy with my M-370 and if I were going to purchase a crossbow today I would still choose the same one at that price point.

    Nice video, and honest review. I'm looking to upgrade from my Barnett Jackal, and the Wicked Ridge M370 is at the top of my list. Being made in the USA by Ten Point is a selling point, but honestly it was the lightest advertised crossbow weight that is why I'm leaning towards this one. And the price is fair compared to so many other Ten Point options in the $1,000 and up price range. Good luck on the Ohio hunt .

      Ron thank you man. So at this point, I have used the Wicked Ridge M370 the entire season both in SC and OH. I hunted a lot this season. Archery in SC starts Sept 15th and the season goes all the way to Jan 1st. I also did a week in OH with this. All of my OH trip I used this and probably 70% of the time in SC I used this as my primary weapon. I harvested 3 does with this M370 this season. All of the shots hit their mark and none of the deer went further than 50 yards with one of them only going about 10-15 yards. I have to say after using it all season that I am definitely very pleased with my purchase and would not hesitate to purchase it again.

      Thanks Jim Bear. There is one other thing I finally did that will help you out as well. The plastic part you put on the string when you cock, not sure what that part is called, but where it rests on the stock it can make noise if you bump it. I lined it with moleskin where it rests against the stock and that has helped a good bit with that noise factor. I have taken 9 deer with mine so far and it has been flawless.

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth  2 месяца назад +1

      So on the crank, in the mode I was using where it makes a lot of noise, it is flipping over gears where it catches. That is why it is making the noise. You can stop in the middle of cranking without any worries. You can flip a lever which disables the gear catch, but you need to crank all the way with that setting. With that setting it cranks silently. That is how I always crank it. It is not a heavy crank so it is not difficult to do.
      As far as the fire/safety switch, it is not the quietest, but I have figured out how to work it slow enough to keep it quiet. I have taken 11 deer with this, all at close range so I can't complain. It has been an excellent crossbow for me. Thanks for watching!

      Yes a lot of folks go with that option. Typically when you do that the 20 and under range will be slightly high, but well within the kill zone. I typically set up for 15 to 20 yard shots just as I always have from years of compound bow hunting so that is why I stuck to the 20 mark. But yes the 30 yard mark works for a lot of folks, especially on faster crossbows. Good luck to you with your new crossbow!

I have killed 11 deer with this crossbow. All pass throughs and all quick kills. The problem though is this model was just discontinued. The good news is that Wicked Ridge came out with another model called the Commander M1. The Commander M1 from how it looks and the specs, looks like it is the new and improved M-370.

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth  3 года назад +2

      You can turn the clicker off - that is what I do. So with the clicker on it engages the lock mechanism as you turn it so if your hand slips off the handle of the acu draw the string stays cocked to that point. When you turn it off - the noise goes away but you need to make sure you don't let your hand slip, cause if you do the string is going forward and going to spin that handle really fast. On this model I think the pull weight is only 5 lbs so as long as you stay focused during the draw cycle it's no problem.

      @Check Parson - They recommend firing a bolt instead of decocking. I leave a target and a bolt with a field point next to it. When I come in I just put that bolt in and fire at the target. Hindsight that is a really good routine too. My buddy just got a new Ravin R10 which you can decock. So while we were hunting in Ohio this year he was decocking and I was firing my bolt. By firing my bolt each time, I know that it is on. He bumped his scope on the trip but since he wasn't firing to decock his crossbow he didn't know it was way off. He found out when he missed the big buck that came out on him mid way through our hunt. I learned at that point that there is an advantage to firing a bolt instead of just decocking.

    What’s the effective range; could a guy shoot accurate to 80 yards?

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth  Год назад

      Well here are my thoughts and this is just my opinion. Can you target shoot this thing accurate to 80 yards? - yes you can. Unless you are hunting over an open field I don't recommend anyone attempting taking an animal at that range. I spent most of my life bowhunting and one practice I have always done after a morning hunt, was to pick a spot on the ground - a leaf or something at some random distance and take a shot from my treestand. What I have found is that in a wooded environment, once you get past 40 yards or so there could be vines, twigs, etc.. that you just can't see. I learned that over years of taking these real world practice shots. Every now and then an arrow deflects and I am like what the heck. How did I miss by a foot? And then I would get down and look back from the arrow on the ground and see the vine or twig that I couldn't make out from my treestand view. That foot difference from the deflection could have been a clean miss or a bad wound shot. So although one can shoot a crossbow accurately at 80 yards does not mean one should sometimes. Again, these are my personal thoughts on the matter so personally I typically don't shoot past 40 yards in the woods. Having said that, the way I hunt, most of my animals are taken under 20 yards.

      @BooneDownSouth  3 года назад +1

      @Max - So yea maybe something is wrong with your setup and they can figure it out. If you end up with two with one for your son that's not a bad deal either. As far as the factory accudraw on the M-370 it can be silent. There is a locking gear when you crank it so that the noise you hear is the lever flipping over each gear and as you turn the handle. This way if you stop cranking or let go the lever locks it in that position. If you flip the switch to the position you would put it in after you cock it, that removes the lever from the action. If you just keep the switch in that position it will crank silently. You just can't let go or stop because nothing is holding the gear in a locked position as you crank. So either crank it until it is cocked or back it down all the way before you take your hand off the crank. This is how I do it and it works great and it doesn't make a noise.

    • @BooneDownSouth

      Paul.. oooh that's a tough one. So #1 I REALLY like my Wicked Ridge M-370 and if money was an issue, I would absolutely go with the Wicked Ridge M-370. I just don't think the extra features warrant almost a 1/3 more in price. Okay but having said that, your question was if money was no issue. The are two things that I really like about the Ravin R10 - the compact form factor and the integrated cocking system. It is one of the cleanest integrated cocking systems I have seen. The other features are not that important to me. I have shot a compound bow for 35 years and have never been a speed freak. I am all about making sure I hit the target where I want. If you do that, you don't need a lot of speed. People harvest deer every year with traditional archery equipment that only shoots maybe 190 fps. The Ravin R10 has more kinetic energy than the Wicked Ridge, but at these levels its just not that big of an issue. Last season I killed 3 deer with my M-370 and have killed two bucks this year so far.. and the season ain't over ;) There are two things I don't like about the R10 - the safety switch and the difficulty in removing the quiver. The quiver is kind of a big thing for me too, cause I always take it off when on stand, and I think that would bother me over time with the R10. I guess for me it's a tough call. I think the only thing I personally would gain with the R10 is the more seamless integrated cocking system, not to say anything is wrong with the M-370, but the R10 definitely wins on that point. The thing is, I REALLY like my Wicked Ridge M-370, and this year I haven't even picked up a rifle, been hunting with it exclusively. So I am kind of biased here too I suppose. I guess I am unsure what I would do if money was not an issue and those were the only two choices. I am somewhat biased to my Wicked Ridge and that is the best I can tell you. Now buddy would tell you to go with the R10.

    /sleeve broke on the the right limb after a few practice shots before the season and the string kept jumping off of the cam. The bow was out of warranty no help from Ten Point. Bow shop said they would need to send it back to the factory to have it "evaluated" and it would need another string for $450- $550 to fix it. I paid $700 new, so basically it is a disposable crossbow. However, when I did get it sighted it was very accurate and I did kill a couple of hogs with it the first season that I was able to use it. • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth  Год назад

      Chad it is really a preference thing. There is no doubt more challenge in a compound bow and that is what I used to enjoy, until I had shoulder surgeries. The criteria one uses to determine their success will dictate what tool they use. If your criteria is upping your odds to get that kill, then absolutely the crossbow is a better tool. A lot less stuff to go wrong than with a compound bow. A compound bow has a lot more movement involved and easier chances of getting busted for sure. The crossbow is just flat out more accurate, better range and just way easier once you get older and your shoulders aren't as good as they used to be. But nevertheless I used to enjoy the challenge aspect of compound shooting. However, now that I have been shooting a crossbow for a few years I have had a lot of satisfaction using that as well. In fact, I have not picked up my rifle in the last 2 years and have preferred to just stick with my crossbow through gun season. So far I am up to 8 kills with this M370 and if the Lord is willing I will have one more before the season is over. Best of luck to you.

With it on, you can crank and stop and let go and it will keep it in place, however far you cranked it. When I am hunting though, I turn it off. With it off, there is no safety catch if your hand slips off the crank in this case, but it is silent. I just take my time with it and make sure I have a solid grip on it when cranking. I have done this for the last two seasons and it works great. In fact, last season it was the only weapon I hunted with.

      Nope at 20 yards at that speed there is just not that much difference in the trajectory. I was not very elevated when shooting so it was really negligible. It was just bad off.
