The roots of the wisteria won't be a problem for the house. Wisteria has tap roots (a carrot is a tap root) - these roots shoot straight down and do not spread. Hence, wisteria is such a good plant to have by the wall of the house

    • @brokgrl85

For brick and stone houses, yes. Wooden or cedar shingles houses you may want to look for a safer alternative.

I have a wisteria in the front garden that I inherited when I moved in to my victorian house. It had been cut back to a stump on my side of the fence, but went into my neighbours garden where it trailed over all of his fence. He begged me not to destroy it completely. The neighbour on the other side was very anxious to tell me to keep it under control. Over the years it grew back on my side, and flowered best after about 5 years. People compliment me on it and when it's on flower I often see people taking selfies next to it! I think it's gorgeous.

My home is turning 20 years old, soon. I am also aging along with it.
I have been thinking and noticing it’s time to do an upgrade or a remodel.
I’m the original owner and have taken good care of my house. It mostly needs cosmetic upgrades. I have always been a fan of English cottage decor, but am afraid it might be perceived as too mature.
The way you used classic touches and design, really makes your home look polished and full of charm and character.
Your journey is allowing me to give my thoughts and preferences an opportunity and proceed with a polished English cottage inspired design.
Thank you for your fresh and young ideas and approach to making a space become what we want and prefer.
Also, and lastly, wisteria roots grow long and straight down. They don’t spread across, therefore would probably not disturb your home’s foundation.
    Thanks again, young man. ❤

Could have got UPVC heretige windows, the cost would have been about 8k cheaper. But the house has been transformed and people have knocked on our door and asked where we got the windows from. Most of the costs seem reasonable, especially given where you are. The transformation is fantastic and I would think the added value is much higher than the outlay. One oddity was the door, where you gave a very wide range of prices rather than what you actually spent (unlike the other items on the list).

I LOVE the front of your home, Ash! Absolutely stunning! I find videos of homes in Britain, particularly those of older British homes, soooo interesting and enjoyable - and your home absolutely takes the cake. If I could have a home like that, I would. Unfortunately, we don't have homes like that in Phoenix. However, I have been doing similar types of projects on my Mexican-style home over the past four years. By the way, the only time I ever got to visit London was in 1980. A cousin had married an Irishman working for Rolls Royce there, and I stayed with them for a few days. They lived in Harlesden, NW10. I fell in love with LONDON on that trip!

I agree with all the prices and advice, but I personally think it is madness spending that much on a hand made bespoke front door for a house that is not going to be "forever".
I found our 1880 door for our 1885 house on Facebook Marketplace with ALL the original brass door furniture for £200 plus £475 to have it refurbished a splash guard added and it stripped and painted. I am so pleased it is a period door with little marks it acquired over the past 144 years! You have vastly improved your house and this will also show when you go to sell it ... well done ! And just one last thing, I had a conversation with our listed building officer and he said, it is not a sin to want some modern items in these old houses, they should evolve with time and they are not meant to be museums !!!

    • @ashmazzina
      @ashmazzina  2 месяца назад

I totally get where you’re coming from, I actually looked at getting an original door the same way, but so many of them had so many issues and would have cost around £2-3k including installation and removal of the 2 doors we had. A black door has become what everyone now assumes is an original color. But, no. Restoration professionals have found that the authentic color was a dark green. It was oxidation that turned it black. All of them. Including No. 10.

I think front door colours are an opportunity to add personality, ours is a dark blue not black. In my opinion as long as they’re traditional in style, green, yellow, blue doors all look great! Great to know though 😊

Looks brilliant and much better. The only thing I don’t like are the shutters. You’re amongst the herd that has them in their homes, but they are an American import from the southern states, and I think architecturally or aesthetically do nothing on a British house. I would much prefer a beautifully or brilliantly tailored fabric curtain which is also much more useful for drafts in British homes which tend not to be insulated.

Whilst I do agree with the idea of fabric, shutters have been around in Europe for a lot longer than America. I also like the fact that light passes through whilst maintaining privacy. I get they’re plantation style, but in a London home I think they look wonderful.

@@ashmazzina in England shutters were solid and we’re standard in Georgian homes. Louvered shutters are not English. Americans called plantation shutters.

Or maybe, just maybe use a little bit more of that brain of yours and realise the outside renovation is finished! So he probably didn’t film every bit meticulously. Do you have a Time Machine Lizzie? Can you send your comment back 12 months so he can take your passive aggressive criticism on board? If not, I know another place you can put that comment. Xx 💋
