Great video! I'm also a fan of minimalist/ergonomic rigs. For the right situations a little can go a long way and help you get more creative shots than larger rigs. I also think the viewfinder cup you have is the cherry on top of a rig like this! Using built in viewfinders has been key in my minimalist rigs but I find the standard ones aren't always the best for video. It would be great to see a video on something as simple as changing out the stock viewfinder!
I prefer half cages, too! For my A7IV I had to use a full cage because the half cage options were either lacking on some way or incorporated leather at some places. In the end I went with the cage from Smallrig and the only thing that annoys me from time to time is that I can't mount the camera in a vertical position. Luckily, that comes up so rarely for me that it is not much of a bother. I have been looking at different camera monitors and seeing yours reaffirmed that I don't need a big one for my setup. Thank you!
That's a really neat kit! I had that VL35 and had to send it back to Ikan a bunch of times for repair. After the 3rd bad monitor, dead pixel issues, I ended up just putting the replacement they sent me on ebay. One thing I did was add a battery switch to that monitor so it wouldn't draw power when I didn't want it to.
I have the iKan monitor. Unfortunately it has a dead pixel in the center, but I still use it. I've asked ikan if they would make them again but the said no. Guess I'll have to watch the used market. Nice build!
How well does that mic mount work? I would have thought you would get a lot of handling noise through the rubber etc compared to the yellow shock mount.
Camera rig doesn't have electronics circuits, firmware and motors that tends to malfunction after few months. It doesn't have built in batteries that may die after few months or year.
Please could you do a more in-depth review of the 7artisans ND filter? I can't find a single video about it and I'm really interested. I've been looking for a front threaded variable ND filter for a while!
I’m currently building my sonya6600 rig, just waiting for my cage and I’ll attack the handles, mic. No external monitor yet I think I’m going to wait on that but I’m excited for my parts to arrive
Oi, cada! I love the consistent focus on tight and tidy on your channel. It’s so easy to end up lugging around an ungainly and awkward setup. Did you switch from the Freewell ND filter setup because of constraints from the matte box? I love them for photography. (It’s so bright in Goiás that I have to use ND filters all the time.)
Yeah thats my biggest complaint with rigging my cameras is when it slow me down from making stuff haha. And yeah with that tilta mattbox you have to have a very slim ND filter for it to work. I love the Freewell filters but with all the sun here in texas and using mist filters, having a mattebox is pretty handy
Hi, I know you've used g85 and other m43 cameras before. I have a G85 and have been looking as the OMD em1 MII as a budget main cam that can use my current lenses. For an A B Cam setup would you say that matching footage from the Olympus and g85 os something that can be done easily? I don't have much advanced editing experience . I do know ideally for perfect matches would me.same cameras. I know you mentioned cinematch in this vid. Would I really need something like this?
So do i but the nd and black mist filtet according to the size of the step up ring or still go by the lens….. my lens ring/thread is a 67…. And do u getting any vignetting whn stacking those filters…. Thanks
Fantastic video! Struggling to find an ergonomic and effective spot to attach my shotgun mic, just wanted to ask your long term thoughts on the smallrig shotgun mic mount
Wish there was a half cage for the panasonic s5 too! I always hated the full cage on the grip feeling :) this feels perfects. Also kudo's that you are not really creating problems that do not exist. It's really underrated when watching all those vmount videos.
I have a lumix G80 and trying to find a compatible smallrig for it, is there any similar models that would fit the G80s build that are more available online.
why did you even add a matbox if you're using on lens filters and trying to make the rig smaller? I wouldve got rid of the matbox and instead get a bigger monitor
Its true, Comica, Diety, Godox all borrow and copy designs Rode released first but at the same time Rode isn't the first to make consumer level microphones so I'm sure they've done it as well. I think where these other companies fit in is providing cheaper alternatives to brands like Rode, Sennheiser, Schoeps etc.
OM-LOG400 Pro Luts now available check em out here ruclips.net/video/L6_TgwhD25w/видео.htmlsi=rtb7KVggo5_Y5cXA
I really love this channel. Am from Uganda 🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬 and honestly, Nigel Barros is my favorite budget indie filmmaker on RUclips
Hello from the US!

Yeah I always tend to try to find bigger eye cups when I can, the stock olympus ones are pretty small. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video! This Is the type of rig I'm looking to build. Had a blast skating the ditch with you too, haha. 🤘
That VM10 Pro sounding clean!
What a great set up Nigel love it it looks practical too great job man
Oh man, that's a neatly arranged rig right there, I love it! Whis we could have seen the spec ad though.
The spec ad is coming mid October (hopefully) I'm pretty excited about it, thanks for watching!
That's one hell of gnarly rig dude, damn! Looks incredible 👌 Loved the skate shots, everything looked like it was straight out of movie movie.
Rocking versatile little rig and that mic is amazing value! 👏👏👏

what you do is that i want all that stuff even if i dont need it. great video 😎👍
I honestly love all the rigs 😮
That 7artisans ND filter looks interesting! I love my Nisi true color but I do wish it could stop down a bit further than 5 stops
Yeah for the price their asking I'm pretty impressed with the 7artisans filter for sure

Yeah I've heard that, mine luckily has been fine for the time that I've had it. I might switch to a portkeys soon though!
Always love your videos! Thanks for the breakdown!
Wow Nigel your set up looks awesome You gave me really good ideias thanks

This is lowkey and simple but fire set up
How well does that mic mount work? I would have thought you would get a lot of handling noise through the rubber etc compared to the yellow shock mount.
Great rig Nigel. Jealous I £idnt wait for the godox mic.
When you stack the 7artisans filters, is the vignetting noticeable - asking for a "friend"
dope build
Olympus FTW!
So underrated, but so good!

Great video Nigel. What do you think of the new Sony fx30? Do you think it presents good value? Thanks.
Great mini rig everything thing you need in compact form do you use a flag with the matte box and does it get in the way of the mic?

@@NigelBarros I’m near Brasília with so much sun, so I was eyeing your matte box. 🥵

Another great video! Can I ask how did you convert OM-LOG 400 into S-Log 2? or convert picture profiles in general? Thank you!!
Do you have a link to this half cage? I don’t see it listed in the description.
Nice setup ❤
Intéressant

Wow, someone else with a VT-350 head? I hated getting rid of it since it was leaking so much oil after a job in a blazing hot day...
Very tempting...
Do you use follow focus?
are you still using that monitor?
How long this monitor runs on one battery?
What mattebox are you using? Thanks for the video!
That is the tilta mini mattebox 👍🏽
Do you use follow focus@@NigelBarros
why did you even add a matbox if you're using on lens filters and trying to make the rig smaller?

You could still trim it down by replacing the matte box with a flag.
Why do you need a mat box
Thats is good looking rig Nigel give me ideias thx
I need camera pleace
You talk about Olympus but in the video i see a Lumix!!!! Is this a serious video?
👍🏾
That mic. Buy the Rode and support the original designers. This is basically IP theft. Not cool.

2-3 minutes is basically sales.. really dislike this about youtube people.
