I probably netted over 500 trout this season. I have released them all except 5 brook trout I put in the smoker

That is just pure awesomeness. Hope you get to catch her again. Made me a believer of catch and release. The only thing i keep now are pics. Thanks for the motivation.

Yep!!! Unless something happens like an unfortunate hook placement to where you know the fish won’t survive ! Or stocked fish maybe eat a few ! But these big wild trout are unique and deserve to spend many years in their waters! Good luck on your next adventure!

Dan, It looked like catch 2 & 3 were in the same area but catch #1 was in a different area. How far away was catch 1 from 2 & 3?

    • @DownstreamDownrange

Certainly within walking distance ! But yea she was in a different location 3 springs ago

Well, as the years go by and we hook into very big nice trout, and release them very carefully like you do , we are bound to hook the same fish a few times. Unless , of course it succumbs to either a meat eating fisherman/girl or an abusive way of handling these prime fish or fate can come into play naturally taking its life. But, it is so cool you have proof through your videos that this indeed is the same big girl you originally hooked 3 years ago! Her spots don’t lie and actually is like DNA . Perfect match. Proof is in the pudding. If handled correctly and placed right back to their domain , a trout or any fish for that matter will go on and live and grow bigger and bigger. This big girl can be 24”er in a few more years. Great video on proving this point! Thanks for trying to educate more and more fishermen that this is a very important procedure to hopefully successfully protect our fish populations.

Holy crap, that was awesome. In my home water, I named him Bubba. I got him first, 19" brown , fat as hell. First, he broke me off on a (5X) streamer, but, a month later, I extracted it from his hooked jaw , on a Hendrickson stillborn pattern. I then "shared" him with a close friend , who was a talented dry fly fisher. I explained that he was big, but stupid enough to come up, as I had caught him again . We both have analog pics of him. He was a minnow huffing "reservoir Brown" who moved into the inlet in spring. A year later, I hooked one I couldn't control, dry fly, exact same spot. Took me far into my backing. I don't know if that one was a brown or maybe just a 10 lb. carp. But that fish covered 75 yards in ten seconds . In pretty placid water. Mystery to this day. Great story. never mind You Tube , that's a "mind channel" entry. For keeps.

@@DownstreamDownrange It's possible that reservoir had big rainbows that ran up, but I had never caught any in that stretch. This fish ran like a tarpon. I couldn't control it. Broke me off well into my backing on a 5 weight. Stream was 25 feet wide. Very brushy. Almost still water. Ducks floating . Wierd AF.

When you lifted it out of the water, I thought it was "the barkeater". By the way, the quality of your videos was good three years ago and it has gotten better over the years. As always,a very enjoyable video to watch. The belly of that fish was huge. I'm guessing that fish was over 5 lbs.

Nice fish! And that’s cool that you may have caught the same fish again a year later. It goes to show that catch and release works and proper handling of the fish.
