Jeez, my heart went out to you. That horrible sickening feeling seeing you and that poor other boat. You were so lucky you didn't get any more damage when you were hit. We have blow up fenders and love them. Great video, sorry LA was damaged 🥰⛵️
I know people have been through much worse than that but it was pretty horrific for us not knowing if it was going to get even worse or how long were we going to bash against the dock before something seriously broke.
Hi Guys, at the moment I'm tied off Careel Bay marina. Pittwater NSW. In a storm I had my boats starboard side damage by a run away cruiser which broke its mooring. My point being, today this side has been repaired and painted, To protect the paint work and repair job the marina has a bow and stern anchored lines run out on my port side at 90 degrees to keep my boat from hitting the dock to prevented ruining the paint work. On viewing your video instead of just relying on bigger fenders . Here is a tip, next time there is a storm run two anchors out in the windward side at 90 degrees to keep your boat from hitting the dock. wishing you both happy navigational experiences, SV Skoiern IV
From what I hear the Careel Bay Marina is for the rich and famous. No wonder the management is looking after you so well. 😉I love your idea. Certainly if we ran a spare anchor out to windward we are going to take a lot of pressure off the leeward side. The longer the rope the better. Good luck to you also. When we get back to Australia we need to have a drink or two.
@@ianmiller5779 Careel Bay is mixed clientele from fisherman to recreational from 20 footers to big 45" cats. Though not cheap they know what they are doing. They totally rebuild my boat from the top of the mast to the bottom of my keel a few years ago when it was knock over when it was on the hard stand at the RPAYC in Newport. Careel bay is very well protected except from westerly and north westerly's your storm was bad because you where on the dock, but I have had 90K from the west the water was smoking not spray my cockpit cover was shredded in under a min! Look forward to catching up Hang in there, John
Another good video that captured the severity of the storm and the unfortunate damage LA suffered. The damage down the port side of the hull could well have been a lot worse if one of the windows was broken. Love the big ar5e fenders you now have. Ian did a great job during the storm passing. Frapping the bimini may help with reducing it flapping up and down. Never took you guys as being big rum drinkers! Top looking main.
Thanks Guy. It is all part of the learning curve. We were doing our absolute best to protect those windows. A new bimini will be ordered in the Med. We love a rum or two. 🤣
We were supposed to be docked in Charleston for the winter starting in Dec. I’ve seen storm footage of boats being smashed against the mega dock, it seems the wind in big storms always pushes boats onto that dock and creates big waves. I told them 100% we had to be on the inside. Glad there wasn’t too much damage.
It was another step up the learning curve for us. A storm of that magnitude was not expected. It was quite a night. Poor Dasha worked herself to a stand still. Eventually she had to stop and sleep. We will repair Lady Aquitaine when we next haul out.😃
Sorry to see the damage to your beautiful boat. I don’t think it’s ever a good idea to tie fenders to the lifelines. If they get caught they will pull down the lifelines and the stanchions
Glad to see LA survived the storm. We are now caught up with your videos, stay safe

An inspiration.
Bought my boat in Georgetown, SC, 33 ft Cruisers Esprit. Lived on it on the ICW for 4 years.

We will get the damage fixed in the Med. Maybe Malta. You are correct about the fenders and the lifelines. We certainly learnt a lesson.😀
