    Delightful! I once bought a brooch made from discarded rhinestone jewelry pieces soldered onto a filigree flat pice of metal. It was about $45 and worth every penny.

    Can you make a video on how to solder to stainless steel? Like add to a bracelet, watch or ring?

  • @lauranye1848
    @lauranye1848 7 месяцев назад +4

    Yes!!!! So exciting. I will be trying this as well. Just been having some issues with my solder not sticking to my iron. I have the same iron as you and it was working great. Now projects are taking forever because the solder doesn't wanna stick. I just saw a post that mentioned tip tinner so I will be buying that.
    Thanks for the awesome video. I laughed out loud when you said "hello" about the piece. 😂😂. I enjoyed this video so much, thanks.

      hahahah! I know! I was so excited when filming! lol Re the tip, are you conditioning it with solder when done working every time? Just wanted to make sure lol Also, our soldering station does have rosin flux in it. So technically we are conditioning the tip as we are cleaning it. Please let me know :) and I will try to help. If I dont respond to this comment thread please start a new one or dm on IG and I will help. I know how frustrating it is! So let's troubleshoot together❤️ Hugs!

      Oooooo.....this is a game changer! I love it so much! And your crystal piece is beautiful 😍!
      I have seen people use playdough like this as well, but again, I haven't tried it.
      I love that you can move the the foam while you're working too. Thanks for sharing ✨🙏✨💖🥰
      Oh, I was just going to add that I never used to have an issue with my tips getting oxidized and not picking up solder,....but I was using a rosin core solder and a lower temp iron. When I switched to Silvergleem and an adjustable temp soldering iron, everything was going great, until I got to about fifty pieces done. Then, even though my iron was getting cleaned regularly ( I usually clean and tip my iron while I work), I noticed I was having a harder and harder time getting my iron to pick up solder and it was nearly impossible to tin it. I did get it done, but was hesitant to use it again. Anyway, I decided to try some of the rosin core solder to test out stamping the solder, and suddenly my tip was tinning great, like it used too.
      I don't use the rosin core anymore because the rosin leaves a mess on my pieces that is really hard to clean off, but it got me thinking. Rosin acts like a flux for the solder, so it was helping tin my tip. I don't want the mess of it, so I got a lead free tip tinner. They are cheap on Amazon, and it solved my problem. Now when I solder, I clean my tip regularly, but can also roll my tip in the tip tinner for a few seconds and everything works perfectly. I can use it just as I shut down and before coating my tip with solder before storing it. It works like magic. Anyway, I hope this helps. It was a game changer for me.

      I believe that the type of metal backing could be why certain metal backed rinestones/ crystals work and others don't. Soft solder should stick to silver, brass, copper or tinned metals that have no coating. I've heard metal alloys ,like a lot of charms are made out of, does not work well with solder. So maybe the ones that are working are silver plated? It would be interesting to see how it works on brass backed ones.

      Thank you so much! I am planning to film a video on how to care for your soldering iron and how to make solder stick, so this is very useful data. I am suspecting I dont have this issue because my soldering iron came with tip cleaning station with rosin flux. So this confirms the theory :) HUGS!!!

I will add a link to a description, I forgot lol. amzn.to/3SLK1WX I will get some larger ones off amazon and will test. And will add a link once I know they stick without copper tape:)

    Love it! Why my solder is not running on the tip of my soldering iron like yours??? I can't even solder a bail for my pendant😢

    • @eugeniaedits
      @eugeniaedits  6 месяцев назад

      Hi!! You might need to scrape the solder with the tip to get it going in back and forth motion. If that does not help, coating a tip w rosin flux should help. If that does not help, it is possible your soldering iron is oxidized. Are you conditioning your the tip with solder after you are done soldering? :) It will coat the tip and will prevent it from rust. Please let me know if these help!❤️

    Hi Eugenia, thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge, experiences, and your special advices. I want to ask you something is really important for me. Are you happy with the durability of lead-free solder? In your designs are there any color changes? I will create body pieces of jewellery and jeweled tops with rhinestones. Do you have any advice for me? Thank you so much for everything!

    • @eugeniaedits
      @eugeniaedits  4 месяца назад

      Hi! So glad you like it! So the ring I make are very very very sturdy, and I wear them daily. However, for body jewelry, be careful with jump rings. They tend to be the weakest part when soldering. So if you can work around them would ideas. Body jewelry will have more tension so the linked parts have to be sturdy. I hope this helps! 🫶

    • @eugeniaedits
      @eugeniaedits  4 месяца назад

      And they don’t change color even after wearing them daily and washing my hands in them all the time :)

    Does solder stick to 925 or sterling silver rings?

    • @eugeniaedits
      @eugeniaedits  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi! As far as my experience it doesnt, but with use of copper tape it would! So as long as you wrap a part of the ring with copper it would!❤️

    • @eugeniaedits
      @eugeniaedits  6 месяцев назад

      I think it's rather residue from a copper tape. It might be happening from overheating of a soldering iron. Try lowering the temperature and to get rid of the that "oil" just scrub your pieces with soap and water. I hope this helps! Let me know!❤️
