Is the surprise movie "Hook"? :D
(Doubt it, but I'm super excited for you to see it in any case!)
That rat is a pretty patient villain! Disappears for almost the entire movie and comes back to attack a baby! At least Tramp was there to help.
Might not notice, but the voice of Lady also voiced Merryweather("Make it blue!")from "Sleeping Beauty", while Aunt Sara was Flora("Make it pink!")and the Irish cop is the same actor who voiced King Hubert(Phillips Father).
Some things that are easy to miss: The wild dogs that chase Lady before Tramp saves her are after her because she's in heat.
Jock and Trusty offer to marry her after she ...er, stays out the night with Tramp.
      Great reaction, as ever!

Another not-so-fun fact: In the original script for this movie, the people originally wanted Trusty, the bloodhound, to die, but when most of the actors and actresses, including actress/singer Peggy Lee broke down crying, and protested that the kids would be upset if they allowed it to happen, so they changed the ending to the happy Christmas ending ,with Trusty being alive, that we got today.

So some facts about Lady and the Tramp
Walt Disney Productions story artist Joe Grant came up with an idea inspired by the antics of his English Springer Spaniel Lady, and how she got "shoved aside" by Joe's new baby. He approached Walt Disney with sketches of Lady. Disney enjoyed the sketches and commissioned Grant to start story development on a new animated feature titled Lady. Through the late 1930s and early 1940s, Joe Grant and other artists worked on the story, taking a variety of approaches, but Disney was not pleased with any of them, primarily because he thought Lady was too sweet, and there was not enough action.
Walt Disney read the short story written by Ward Greene, titled "Happy Dan, the Cynical Dog", in the Cosmopolitan magazine, published in 1945. He thought that Grant's story would be improved if Lady fell in love with a cynical dog character like the one in Greene's story, and bought the rights to it. The cynical dog had various names during development, including Homer, Rags, and Bozo, before "Tramp" was chosen.
The idea of giving a dog as a present is what Walt did for his wife and the look of the city in the film was inspired by Walt Disney’s boyhood town of Marceline, Missouri (which sidenote if you haven’t been there it is very cool as they have a whole museum there that used to be a train depot),
Many of the songs were written by singer of the time Peggy Lee and she actually did the singing in the film as well for the mother, Si and Am, and Peg,
The man who sings the song Peace on Earth in the film is Donald Novis who people will be more familiar with as singing “Love is a Song” from Bambi,
During the middle of production of the film a new widescreen process was being done called Cinemascope so Walt basically had his artists make the film twice once in the regular aspect ratio of 1:33:1 (square shape) they were already doing and again in the new ratio which meant they had to change the layout of characters and look of the scenes,
The beaver both design and voice would be the inspiration for the character of Gopher in the Winnie the Pooh featurettes,
The voice of Lady is Barbara Luddy who was Merryweather in Sleeping Beauty,
Once again some in house voices that appears in other Disney films find their way here as
Verna Felton who was The Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland and Flora in Sleeping Beauty is Aunt Sarah here,
Bill Thompson who was The White Rabbit and others in Alice in Wonderland, King Hubert in Sleeping Beauty, and Uncle Waldo in Sleeping Beauty is Jock and several others here,
They had planned to kill off Trusty, but because of the upset kids and parents over the death of Bambi’s mother they left it so he is alive and only has a hurt leg,
The reason Jock and Trusty were proposing to Lady (that’s what they were trying to do after the pound scene before Tramp arrived), was because they discovered she was pregnant not that she was at the pound and it’s more the attitude of society at the time it was made. They were acting like dogs have the same morals as humans… Lady was out all night with an unchapereoned male, regardless of what she did or not do, her virtue is compromised. Offering to wed such a woman and “make an honest woman of her” would be seen as a pity case on the part of the men, because any babies within the first nine months (for humans) would be questionable if they were biologically his. In the extreme patriarchal society of the time, having such a question about your firstborn and heir is a huge stain on a man’s honor.

At that young age, I'd never seen anything like that done before, and I was fascinated.

It also continues the theme of the animals having traits belonging to their breeds. The scottie is Scottish, the chihuahua is Mexican (funny nobody complains about that), the borzoi is Russian and the bulldog is English. The stereotyping is just rather indicative of the time when it comes to the cats unfortunately, but the film was made almost 70 years ago, and it's 2 minutes out of an hour and 16 minutes of movie. Along with Peter Pan, Bill Thompson (best known voicing Droopy Dog and other MGM and Disney characters as The Ranger from the Humphery Bear cartoons and a couple of Donald Duck cartoons) have many voice roles, including: Jock, Joe the Chef, The Bulldog, Dachsie the dachshund, the Irish Policeman and one of Jim's friends. In Peter Pan he voiced Mr Smee and the majority of Hook's crew. His final voice role before his death was Uncle Waldo in The Aristocats.

Even if it's a racist implication, the Siamese cats' song is way too catchy! Also, this movie made me terrified of leaving my pets alone with a sitter that could potentially be mistreating them.

Hello! Southeast Asian here with East Asian ancestry. And for the record, a lot of us aren't offended by the Siamese cats at all. To us, they're just singing cats. We're not insecure enough to think that slanted eyes and buck teeth are all we'll ever be to foreigners. If people are lazy enough to teach their children that not all Asians look/act like that, then it's not the movie's fault. It's plain bad parenting.

This movie was a real tearjerker as a kid and I found some of the scenes disturbing. I always remember the Siamese cats being evil and getting Lady into big trouble which was extremely frustrating. The dog pound scene was pretty dark and sad. The rat was also very creepy. But just the way Lady got treated by the Aunt bothered me so much as a kid. Funny I didn't even remember the part where they tried to stop the wagon and Trusty almost dying. Funny as a kid so many cartoons I just found disturbing or at least having disturbing scenes: A Troll in Central Park, We're Back, The Brave Little Toaster, The Secret of Nimh, Pinocchio, Dumbo, All Dogs Go to Heaven, Wind in the Willows, Little Nemo, Thumbelina, Halloween is Grinch Night. When you rewatch them when you're older I'm surprised to find generally they aren't so bad at all. But all but 2 of those I haven't seen since I was a kid and I really want to see them again to see them with adult eyes.

I usually make fan characters to represent me for all the movies and TV shows I love. The character I created for this movie is this: Her name is Tsuke. She is a pet female Wolfdog. One of the dogs that neighbors Lady. Her name means "Moon" in Japanese. The area around the eyes and the lower half of the feet are dark brown, the rest of the body is dark gray. She usually hangs out with cats and squirrels. The most common joke about her is when other dogs argue whether she is a "Dog" or a "Wolf". But she describes herself as "a Wolf enjoying the benefits of modern human life". When Tramp and Lady are about to be caught in the final part, she attacks and wounds the human like a wild wolf, always proving that she is a Wolf.

a fun fact about the whole trusty and buster proposing to lady thing: I watched the making documentary of this film, and the reason they approach her like that is because the movie implies that lady and the tramp had sex during the Bella Notte. it's really subtle, since it was the 50's and they're dogs, but since they wake up close together the next morning, I bet some people in the audience probably picked up on it. so, trusty and buster approaching lady would be like two friends offering to "save a fallen woman" so to speak, since lady is technically damaged goods now. it's also more or less confirmed since she has puppies by the end

Feel the same way about the sad faces of the dogs at the dog pound scene Nick i can't even go to the local humane society when they do free shots when i take my 1 year old Boxer Terrier. I'm constantly telling myself while getting sad saying don't be a dog hoarder don't be a dog hoarder. It's hard cause you instantly feel like you want to adopt them and just buy a big piece of land so they can be happy like a nice farmland
