Those same gorillas would raise him as Tarzan which in ape language means white skin.

I was going to say some people did die and that could be scary for a kid. The death that Roger is framed for is kinda horrific but is off screen. There's that poor shoe, others aren't really too bad, but several things about the end for sure was possibly scary. In particular a death. Fun fact: the voice of Roger Rabbit played a sleep doctor in Nightmare on Elm Street.

And by the way, the "apes" in Tarzan are NOT supposed to be gorillas -- they are Mangani, an undiscovered type of hominid species with a primitive spoken language of their own. In "Tarzan of the Apes" Tarzan does fight a gorilla and also one or two members of his foster mother's tribe of "apes", but those are two distinct species -- Bolgani and Mangani in Tarzan's first language. Disney's "Tarzan" isn't a terrible adaptation of the books as such things go, but it's still a long way from the novels that Edgar Rice Burroughs created which still rival Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories for the most popular literary character ever. One tip -- if you intend to read the Tarzan books, be aware that the first two, "Tarzan of the Apes" and "The Return of Tarzan" are two halves of the same story rather than stand-alone novels. This is also important if the reader is going to be sensitive about whether the books conform to "modern" social conventions. At least get a more complete picture by reading both before getting triggered. Though compared to some writers of the time who are still popular, the author, Edgar Rice Burroughs, was somewhat less offensive to modern sensibilities. Phil Collins, who is the primary vocalist, recorded his songs in French, Italian, German, and Spanish for the dubbed versions of the film's soundtrack, so it is likely you saw a version where the songs were in English. This version of Tarzan is reasonably close to the books. Most of the alterations are obviously to make it more appealing to modern children. If you want a more book accurate movie there is really only one, however alongside that one there has been another decent attempt in more recent times. The first movie, "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes" (1984) keeps remarkably close to the original story, and is certainly the closest adaptation of Tarzan to the book. The second much more recent movie, "The Legend of Tarzan" (2016) and is largely adapted from portions of a later book by the author and historical events in the Congo, while also taking time to show much of the original story in flashback. Both movies benefit from excellent acting and are well worth viewing if you have any further interest in Tarzan.
