Darling, little granddaughter, your hair looks great!
Been a while since I've seen this but it's one of my favourite tarantino films. The heist/final act of the film is a microcosm of the rest, and of its lead. Jackie isn't the fastest gun in town, or a larger than life con-man bombastically sweeping everyone up in her charisma. She is dignified, unassumingly intelligent, quietly charming, and with her slow social scheming eventually outmaneuvers everyone. She triumphs through the mundane.
Always find it so interesting how people from other countries react to American movies. Reactors from other countries always seem to like the old black and white movies better than the new blockbuster big-time CGI movies today. Story more important than effects.
I LOVE Tarantino. Have seen all his films and projects. I think True Romance, Hateful Eight, and Jackie Brown are my top 3.
Lucy your hair looks fantastic! I dont want hear you saying otherwise 😅❤❤
Check out the movies Pulp Fiction(1994), From Dusk Till Dawn(1996), and Training Day(2001).
The soundtrack is god-tier even by Tarantino standards. Been in my physical media collection forever.
Exactly what is so psycho about her?
She does seem to be very practically minded, unsentimental, and an enjoyer of violence. I like her but the kind of clever that she is can be off-putting at times.
By the way...In Hitlers Book "Mein Kampf" you can read why he didnt invade England...read books.
"...it's going to be on their records...." Yes, and a dishonorable discharge is treated as a felony conviction in the civilian legal system.
Very relevant today in Trump's America.
I think Lucy would enjoy the insanity of Pam Grier's exploitation era - Coffy, Foxy Brown, and Black Mama White Mama are some of her best.
As Mozart asks the Emperor (in Milos Foreman's Amadeus), "Too many notes? Which ones would you have me take out?" In other words, I think you're shortchanging this Tarantino masterpiece... a bit. You haven't hurt my feelings, and I value your honesty, but I genuinely think you've missed something... and I have a theory as to how that happened... Compared to a lot of other Tarantino films, Jackie Brown is a bit of a slow burn, but I find that I'm captivated by every minute of this film (such good dialogue, music, suspense, cinematography...!). It's a perfectly crafted and paced film, IMO -- with SO much style -- but on a first-time viewing it can run counter to expectations -- especially if you're expecting something along the lines of Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, or Inglourious Basterds (blam! pow! splat! gurgle! kaboom!). I suggest you two (delightful psychos) return to this film at some point, as gets better with each viewing. DeNiro's performance is like a metaphor for the film: subdued/not flashy, but brilliant.
So have you seen From Dusk Till Dawn? Loved both the movie and the TV series.
"The movie was out before I was born." Ouch. "I like older movies." Whoa. _Foxy Brown_ (1974) is an "older" movie... Jackie Brown was just yesterday. There were mobile phones and laptops in '97. Be careful with that knife.
Tarantino in my opinion always makes movies that are his version off other genres or old movies. Jackie Brown is his version of waht in the 1970s was referd to as Blackexplotiation films. Films were black people were the protagonists. Pam Grier the protagonist was part of that era. As an example of my opinion you should watch the 1967 film The Dirty Dozen and later Tarantinos movie Inglorious Bastard.
Macabre, In English I pronounce it more like Macaab with the re being silent. Whereas in French I definitely roll the "re" at the end. (I like odd words like this)
Thank you. Elmore Leonard, who wrote "Rum Punch" (1992) the novel that was adapted into the movie "Jackie Brown," has written more than a few novels and screenplays that have been made into movies. "Out of Sight" (1998), which is a personal favourite, shares a character with "Jackie Brown" though the stories are completely independent of each other. "Get Shorty" (1995) and "3.10 to Yuma" (2007) are both very good though I have a soft spot for the earlier "Valdez Is Coming" (1971).
Great Movie and Reaction !! Thank You
Elmore Leonard was an acclaimed western and mystery writer known for his dialogue. Hombre with Paul Newman, Get Shorty Travolta Gene Hackman, out of Sight George Clooney and J Lo are three examples of movies adapted from his writing. Get Shorty is a lot of fun
He wrote this story
Seems like Tarantino is one of the few filmmakers capable of throwing a surprise at Lucia. I remember when this movie opened the reviews were not great, but I liked it. The heist/double cross genre is one of my favorite plots and I like guessing where the story is going. I'm very seldom right, but most often (if the story and script are good) I'm entertained. The cast in this film is uniformly good and that's another reason I like it. Always fun to watch Sam Jackson and Robert DeNiro work. Pam Grier is the cherry on top. Nice reaction guys.
The reason Quint smashed the radio when Brody tried to call for help was not just out of greed since he wanted the bounty money of $10,000 (Which in today's money would be around $60,000), but also out of pride and superiority. After surviving one of the worst shark attacks in history, he decided to take pride in hunting down sharks as a way of avenging his friends who were killed by sharks. When Quint saw the huge great white, he saw it as his big chance. If Brody had called for help, then Quint would've lost that big chance. And not only was Quint a tough guy who wanted to prove that he was invincible than everybody including the shark, but he's also a boat captain. *HE'S* in charge of the boat. So when Brody went to the radio to try to call for help, Quint felt that he was challenging his authority and and daring to go against his personal wishes. So he smashed the radio out of defiance and frustration. And it's also the reason why he wore out the boat engine against Hopper's warnings. Quint basically let his own personal pride override moral judgment and he became Captain Ahab in "Moby Dick". After Captain Ahab got his leg bitten off by the white whale Moby Dick and Quint saw his friends get munched on by sharks, both men became monomaniac with a life's purpose of hunting down sea monsters out of vengeance and forcing their crews to help them at all costs, even if it meant suicide.
Great reaction! Always enjoy watching movies with y'all ✌️
True Romance next please...
Oohh this
So fucking cool
Though basically a dramatic actor up to that point, Werner Klemperer achieved fame in his Emmy-winning comic role of Col. Klink in the sit-com HOGAN'S HEROES.
Werner Klemperer and other actors playing Nazis in the movie were Jewish.
This was originally presented as a one-hour live TV drama with Claud Raines in the Spencer Tracy role (whose mic was turned of when he spoke the word "gas chamber" because the show was sponsored by Westinghouse who made gas stoves and was afraid of the audience making a connection) and later revived as a stage play with Maximilian Schell in the Burt Lancaster role.
I always wondered about the scene where Kaffee goes after Galloway after putting her on blast. He was fall down drunk one minute, the next minute he's behind the wheel of his car.......... Add a DUI to Kaffee's troubles.......
😂😂😂
The German lawyer, Maximillian Schell, should be "very good" indeed. He won an Oscar.
A brilliant film with a deep message. Legal professionals often try to shield each other from the law, whether out of professional courtesy, sympathy, or fear of someday having to defend themselves in court for prior official choices. So it was very rare in history that they came together and chose to prosecute "kangaroo" judges rather than leave it to history. They asserted that law is not an arbitrary exercise of state power, and must be rooted in the truth and fundamental human rights to have authority.
Basically the problem with America and Nazism are two things: First, Americans act like they bore the brunt of the war, while the brunt of the war was taken by Europe and Russia. America took very little and gave the least sacrifices. They only took the atomic bomb from the Jews and dropped it on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to demonstrate world power. It was the perfect time for conquest for these imperialist ego-capital maniacs. Yes, by dropping the atomic bombs and thus ending the war they saved perhaps millions more lives. But anyway, after that they drained the world's resources to create and then maintain their so-called "American dream". And second: in their American propaganda, Americans very skillfully manage to hide the fact that it was America that took all the inventions of the Reich and adapted them to their daily life. However, great reaction again. Despite everything, the film is well made. Respect to these old school first-class actors. For art there are no boundaries, neither skin color, ethnicity or culture.
There still racism in the USA
How did the dictatorship of Salazar impact Portugal?
Now that is a question that probably needs an essay to answer. We are in no shape or form specialists on the subject. Will try to at least put some info here though ☺️ - for a long time our population in general did not question or argued much when given orders. - the education levels of the population where very, very low, with a high number of people who did not even knew how to read or write (not nowadays of course, but it took a few generations) - so when a lot of things do not work correctly (especially public infrastructure), nothing is done about it. It is just considered a part of life. An infinite bureaucratic red tape 😑
To watch you two digest an movie I found so difficult to digest, was extremely entertaining and enlightening.
I had forgotten how many heavy hitters were in this movie: Burt Lancaster, Spencer Tracy, Maximillian Schell...plus for American audiences Werner Klemperer (Kolonel Klink from "Hogan's Heroes") William Shatner from "Star Trek" and one of my all-time favorite actors Richard Widmark (the prosecutor). Great writing, great movie, great reaction.
Great film, great script and great actors! I agree with all that 👌🏻
Great reaction Subscribed!
Thank you so much! ☺️ welcome!
After watching this reaction to the very end. I am extremely proud of my Country, the United States, for having the majority of those who voted in our recent election, making a decision that will likely save our Country 🙂, however, I know that many (but not a majority) of my fellow citizens agree that legal freedoms should not be sacrificed to meet a political objective.
My thanks to both of you for your reactions to this film. Most of it is very difficult t watch for obvious reasons. Each of you had deep and meaningful thoughts on the serious and compelling subject matter. Very impressive! I am now a subscriber to your channel.
Thank you very much ☺️🙏🏻 And welcome!
Spencer Tracy's military aid is played by William Shatner who became famous as Capt. James T. Kirk in STAR TREK.
I only realized that after watching the movie 🤦🏻♂️
This was a fantastic Reaction to a very important historically relevant movie. When the Government is allowed to use their 'supposedly blind' justice system to achieve political objectives, then none of the Citizens in that Country are safe. I am NOT a lawyer, however as a security person who is also a Professional Engineer, I am glad I watched this movie when I was at the formative age of 13. It set me on the path of Political Independence throughout my life - for example, I have never belonged to a Political Party in my birth Country, the United States. This movie also reminds me of my extreme fears fears of where my Country was headed if the recent use of the legal system had succeeded (and expanded) had been successful. Without a fair, and blind justice system, a Country is destined to perish.
Couldn't agree more! Having a blind justice system is extremely important to maintain a free society. We cannot fall in the error of deviating from that because of a greater good or political agenda. I liked the political independence term you used, especially because at the time I and a lot of people that I know feel what we call political homelessness 😅 But yes, following blindly a political party is madness, as an individual its normal to not agree with everything anyway 🤷♂️
The music at the beginning ‘Swan Lake’ was actually used in the original 1931 Dracula film with Bela Lugosi. Also this film was actually originally called ‘Dracula’s Daughter’. Also well done for avoiding the trailers for the obvious reason 😂
Yes, Im so glad we don't watch trailers! 😅
I met Maximilian Schell. He was a very nice man.
You are correct. Edward Binns was in 12 ANGRY MEN.
As always, I enjoyed your thoughtful comments. I saw this in the theater with my parents when it came out, at the age of 7, or possibly 8. I don’t remember whether I prevailed on them to take me, or if they thought it would be educational for me. World War II was still very close to children in my era, and I had three close relatives who fought in Europe. I remember being bored by the movie, although the headphones and translation aspect seemed science-fictional to me at the time. Later, as a young adult, I saw it again at the AFI theater during a Spencer Tracy festival and fully appreciated the importance of the movie. Tracy, who has been my favorite actor since childhood, played the chief judge. I highly recommend a truly amazing book, “The Nuremberg Interviews” (Knopf, 2004). It compiles interviews with 50 of the prisoners on trial, conducted by a psychologist, Leon Goldensohn. Although little known by the public, this is one of the most important historical documents of the Holocaust, in my opinion.
Thank you very much ☺️
This film was made the year I was born - it's so strange to think how soon it was after the war. I knew about the lampshades - it was once of those things whispered in horror when I was a child.
I had no knowledge of it tbh 😬
“Madame Bertholt” performed by Marlene Dietrich gave up her German citizenship in 1937 and spent much of her life helping other refugees, fundraising, supporting the Allied cause and entertaining Allied troops.
Pronounced "Mar-lane-ah."
You might find my suggestion interesting. My first pastor growing up in Southern Illinois was Henry Gerecke. He was the best man I've ever known. He was the protestant chaplain at the Nuremberg trials. There is a book about it, but you can find a good article by searching "daily mail uk henry gerecke". He talked to my grade school class about his conversation with Goering right before Goering committed suicide. He said that he was very frightened before he met the Nazis for the first time, to be face to face with such evil. It is a very interesting story both on an historical level and to show that there are such good men in this world.
Thank you very much, will definitely check it out
I was here for the opening Song .... ya cut it!
Sorry! 😂 Always afraid of copyright infrigements when it comes to songs 😅
@ptthatswhatshesaid I don't think the Nazis have any copyright claims! Seriously!
