[Synopsis]
The road to becoming an empress is paved with treachery. Ruyi (Zhou Xun) is a consort who quickly learns to navigate the treacherous politics of the royal court and move up the ranks. Ruyi had a way of making him feel So small without even saying a word. He knew that the way that he treated her was wrong and he never apologized not once, I don't blame her for being indifferent to him now and not wanting to see him at all.

@@dianehill9557 they're not necessarily just scheming over him, it was clear very few of them truly loved him. but back then in palace life, your position as the concubine is also tied to your status, income (higher status concubines got more treasure), clan name and even your family's safety, if you got on the bad end of some of the higher-ranking concubines/emperor. So they were technically fighting for their lives more than fighting over a man.

I like Zhou Xun voice, I'm happy that they used her voice and not a voice actress.
The first time I heard her speak in this series, I automatically felt uneasy. But going through several episodes, I realized that her voice is so good to hear that it excellently conveyed emotions.

@@tomboy313 China dubs all their actors and actresses for television. sometimes its because they don't speak Mandarin fluently, sometimes its a recording issue and they needed to rerecord the lines, and sometimes they just prefer a different voice.
I really hated what all ruyi went through she was the best empress ever her heart was pure she was full of love she was rightous
Since from the start SHE SUFFERED the most until the end but The Emperor even disgraces her. Even abandon their only legitimate son for his evil consort son to be emperor.
Ruyi marriage is like she never had a husband that care for her,he used her to be en charge of his concubines, and acuse her knowing that she is innocent, good that finaly is awake of the reality.

This lustful emperor had no regards for Ruyi, women of today would have dumped him long ago.
The emperor was also in an prescribed role since birth. He was expected to sire children and the harem bound the tribes to him.
Not saying that he was not cruel and was clueless sometimes but his father made sure he understood what was expected of him.
He cared more for appearances and a false sense of peace than people, especially the women under him.

It is not love to grab on to someone and literally squeeze them unto they are dead and every drop of goodness and what you loved about them is gone. Do not make them become as ruthless and cruel as yourself. If they are truly yours, they will come back to you.

Agreed, but Rongpei is also thinking practically. If the emperor and empress are “back together” so to speak, it is good the empire and good for her mistress. If Ruyi has the emperor as a backer once again, she is protected, defended against current and future enemies, at least in theory. As an example, Rong was incredibly disrespectful and could have been confined for punishment but since the emperor was so lust filled, he allow her free reign. Since Ying is so favoured, she gets away with actual murder. Rongpei does not yet understand that her mistress is done. Once she did, you see that she never really pushed again.
Rongpei also knows she has to help Ruyi; so if her kindness will help the emporer look at Ruyi differently then she does that. If she knows Ruyi doesnot have the patience for him she helps ;)
They all suffer if he focuses on what he doesn't like
