I had/have a car spotting IG page and my life long love of antique cars, and going to car shows and auctions got snuffed out of me due to the length of time involved with taking the photos, the editing, the postings, then all the spam requests. I took the pandemic as a good time to walk away. Thus I refuse to film, or have a RUclips channel in regards to metal detecting. All this said, that I totally appreciate the time and dedication effort put into any RUclipsr with great content. Have hat is off to you Jon and Amy, and all the others. Thank you for your devotion.
Thanks for the kind words brother. Don't let others deter you from doing what you enjoy. If making content is one of them, get after it and have fun doing it.
Great video! And can totally understand him and why. And everything you touched on was spot on. You're a very smart guy Jon . That advice you gave him in the end... I really hope he takes it. Hobbies need people like him and you. I felt exactly like him in 2010 and 2011 when I stepped away from my passion. I wish I tried to balance it better. Life and time is a tricky chess match.
The pressure is real, i get it trust me. But i and every other creator cannot let it run my life. If real life comes up, that will take precedant always. Like i stated, i am not here to be famous, i am here because i enjoy making content. Once i no longer enjoy it, than its time to move on. For the support as always.
I don't create, but would love to know how. Interesting how much time and work it takes to publish videos for us! A lot of us, me included, appreciate your efforts to inform and entertain us. Sometimes we just don't know how much work you do. True! Really good points about RUclips.
Editing can be a hassle, I've released about dozen or 2 videos on RUclips and I do ZERO editing cause it sucks, I just upload the 10 or 20 clips into a editing program and save it, and even that takes a good 20 minutes that I could have been doing something else, not to mention the extra time hunting, find a beep, have to turn the camera on, swing over it again for the beep, it's only like an extra 20 seconds per hole, but I'm sure it adds up To edit properly you will want a good program on a desktop computer, I just use my phone but it's not the proper way
This was a very interesting video. You are right... opinions are like A-Holes... Everyone has one - So True. I totally understand Calabash's thoughts and comments (and yours!). For me, I'm just telling a story about the love (and my addiction) of this hobby. If I can monetize, bonus, but that is not my goal. It's more about the adventures (and the passion). Being a photojournalist and an engineer first, my payment is the learning process and giving back - It's about getting out there, getting the exercise and meeting people. I'm lucky, I don't get phased easily, and really don't care about negative comments. But, this is new to me. That said, I'll keep publishing as long as it doesn't affect my life negatively, but I'll most probably never quit detecting or going out on my different adventures. I do have to say this... the folks I've personally met are "like minded" and that's worth a lot. I'm making friends locally (clubs, hunts, etc), and exploring more places. Publishing on RUclips has forced me out of my comfort zone. My goal this year was to regain my own balance (work/life/family), and get healthy again. I lost my balance when the COVID lock-down happened and my health suffered. I just have to say this - keep your balance, keep having fun with Amy, and don't get burnt out. I do enjoy going on adventures (virtually) with you two. Smiles, H.
Well said. Brad loyalty with Metal Detectors is like Ford and Chevy, when someone is testing a detector and finds an issue with it, people get all upset at that person. Instead they should be thankful because the company usually can update the machine and make it better for everyone. Also the more these guys test detectors the better these machines are getting, the difference between these machines now and 8 years ago is amazing.
I watched Calabash for the info he was putting out on the NOX 800 that I still have not started using in a couple years - I am a Whites PI lover - I think I have owned eight PS's and still have four including a Dual Field still in the box used only once - the TDI BH came out about two weeks after I bought the Dual Field - I watch your videos because I also live in south Florida and have hunted since 68 with a mine detector then a Fisher 1280X in mid 80's was the start -
I liked CB and occasionally watched his video's. I do think he did a lot for many in testing and sharing video's. My only issue was he seemed to become obsessed with what ever he was doing .. giving him .... this is the way it is. And this shows in the fact spent money for subs on a subject that is popular but not a world demanding. I do believe he got burnt out with the whole thing, which I did the same many years ago, but I never walked away totally. Everyone is different, I wish him well in his new adventure. And I agree with you, do video's with no timely pressure..
I remind myself often, this is a hobby I love! And when I feel the pressure of "performing"...i dont enjoy it any longer. So I remind myself, its a hobby I love....
I will definitely miss his knowledge and experience in detecting that being said for xp deus to give the ambassador title to someone else when he promoted xp for so long probably had a hand in his decision he will be missed for sure.
I folowed Calabash for years, started loosing faith when the Deus 2 came out and he was bashing the Equinox a detector he once promoted, He would do testing Deus2 v Equinox 800, but he would put the equinox in park1 or frield 1 on a gold coin under iron test when park2 and field 2 would be the better program on gold. I think the final straw was when Merrill NYC became the face of XP in the US, i beleave Calabsh thought he would be the XP man after all the promoting he did for them, that said he will be missed he knew a lot about metal detectors, he just backed the wrong horse
Agree he totally turned on the Equinox when the Deus 2 came out. The Deus 2 is NOT "far superior" to the Equinox. He was a Deus fanboy instead of being impartial.
Agree, some people let this take up their entire life and before you know it you are at the end of the road like me at 65, many other things out there, but I still enjoy it, but make sure I do other things most of the time. The Gigmaster really has it bad :)) but its entertaining to watch sometimes
Calabash has a lot of knowledge on metal detectors and it shows with all the hours he’s put into the hobby. He just needs to do what’s best for himself. At least he’ll be able to spend more time with his wife. And it doesn’t mean he won’t be swinging a coil anymore. Ed Huffman chose to stop metal detecting to spend more time with his Son doing online gaming, which is great when it comes to quality family time. Thank for sharing this info. with us. _/ 👍
Always enjoyed Calabash videos too bad so many people missed the meaning of what he was doing. I would always test my metal detecting for my self after watching.
Hey I watched some of the Calabash content but you are right in the fact I like a lot of things from the content that he produced and feel that some of the stuff that he puts out there is not all right in all cases and some of the test could be done differently and he is right about that you will never be able to make everyone acceptable to all users. Conditions can make the difference in the results and the settings are the first things that many will point out. As far as the things that he pointed out, they may have all ready been being worked on.And as a tester this the gig and what is expected from you and if you volunteered to do so then you will get what they give you and nothing more should be expected. I watch a fair bit of his content and have a fair bit of respect for his opinion but do also think that there were so things that I think he may have been a bit critical of and may be found a better way to discuss it than just bad mouthing something. But I hope like you said that he will still put out some content and have fun with it instead of making it a job. I could probably talk more about this but fell I may have said too much.To everyone keep on swinging and make it fun and Happy Hunting 👍🙂..
I'm still having problems with my nokta so I feel him when you share a video showing the problem you get attacked in the nokta group so i left mines doing the emi thing like yours did ..
Being attacked online is just the nature having your own opinion. Which is really sad that passionate people who essentially enjoy the same hobby/interests cant have a civilized conversation. We all need to be nicer to eachother.
I had asked him during a live stream if he was affiliated with these different companies as he claimed ( being the first to receive, debut ,and test new machines) that in his own words stoked his ego why don’t they acknowledge him in any way and would they back up his claims? Well he took serious offense to this and told me i would be blocked for asking any further questions like that i know he was the first to debut a few machines if i had to take a shot in the dark i would say he has a connection in the industry maybe a dealer thats well established i think that closer to the truth someone that wanted to stir things up in the sport and make people commit to buying the machines with the higher profit margins like the xp 2 one of the most expensive machines ever made the main detector he was pushing for a while idk I’m just tryin to make sense of why the man would bring so much drama his way almost intentionally he always plays the victim and hes just here to tell people what the best machines are but to me he’s almost too cartoonish with his snakeoil salesman like monologue i mean seriously does he not sound just like a stereotypical 19th century snakeoil salesman i cant be the only one that sees that
I guess it really depends on the person. Not all of us are built the same. Some can let negativity roll off their backs and others like myself want to choke the life out of some moron that is disrespecting me even though i did not provoke the person hating on me. I give respect and expect it in return. I also listen to music reaction videos on RUclips and I’ve come to realize that it can be highly toxic in the comments. If you spend a significant amount of time on the platform and are exposed to constant hate/negativity , i don’t care how strong of a person you are , it will get to you after a while. All this said i appreciate the folks that put in the time to take us on adventures with them. Some people live nowhere near a beach and this could be their entertainment and a way to enjoy the beach. It’s a shame we have people in the world that ruin things for the rest of us by injecting their poison where it’s not wanted. Anyways keep on keepin on Jon. I will watch as long as you two are on. Both seem like good people and i enjoy your vids.
At the end of the day, the comments don't matter. It took me a long time to not care about what people say to me on the internet. There will always be hateful, rude and disrepectful people trolling on the net, nothing we can do about it. Thanks for the support as always drinkely!
I hope he can enjoy his ‘retirement’ from you tube and find joy in living life without having to bring us Tubers with him. Hope he keeps the lab 🥼 coat in use for splaining stuff to the grandkids. 😊
Chunky sure is making a lot of excuses. Negativity my butt. For the longest time he wouldn't even allow comments and when he started to, not that long ago mind you, he would quickly block anyone who disagreed with him. Smartest guy he knows...just ask him. lol
No...real smart men attack somebodies weight in a comment. You are a total clown. That man forgot more than you know. Hater are gonna hate that's just the way it goes.
Calabash leaving YT is a loss for the metal detecting community. His content was spot on and honest. I did my research and in the end completely understand why he is leaving. He is a really good down to earth guy behind the scenes. There is also the issue of being stalked and followed by site pirates due to his YT postings. Something I've had to deal with myself. The reason I deleted all videos on my channel and will never post one again. It's just not worth it.
@@SOFLOTreasureFinds no need for sorry. I'm good, better than ever. Don't turn your hobby into a job. The day YT starts to stress you over a few dollars a month it's time to back up and reevaluate. Do it for the fun.
I am going to miss Calabash. I have always enjoyed his videos, I have learned a lot from his machine reviews & tutorials.
He will be missed. I learned quite a bit about detecting and detectors from Calabash. I wish him all the best.
I had/have a car spotting IG page and my life long love of antique cars, and going to car shows and auctions got snuffed out of me due to the length of time involved with taking the photos, the editing, the postings, then all the spam requests. I seen he's leaving. It's ashame, he did a great job informing people on new machines
Agreed. I Enjoyed his videos.
He will be missed, enjoyed his content, always felt his reviews were impartial and honest assessments. Best wishes in the future!!
Agreed. I enjoyed Calabash, I watched his stuff often.

I heard he quit cuz RUclips de-monitised his channel for breaking rules. Therefor he was earning no revenue from any of his videos
Not sure why youtube would demonitize his channel?

Not sure tbh.
Great Video. Sometimes you just have to take that break to regroup yourself. It's OK
Agreed
He didn’t quit for very long if he did. Now he is back bashing a new metal detector that he has never even touched.
Ya i saw that. I guess hes back? lol

Spot on Jon! Good review.
Like him or not he's good for the hobby
My opinions I think John has a little more something going on, probably family things, we should all spend more family time.
I think Calabash didn’t feel appreciated enough.
I think you are right. I certainly appreciated his knowledge.
Shame he came back really!. He is a hateful person!.

Might be just a hidden passion he has. Whatever floats ya boat
