There's a lot of stories to be told with these numbers so lets get gabbing!
@@grantgarbourbecause nobody likes getting hit with an SPD. I've literally beat someone with a singular command grab the entire match because everyone is so scared.
I think more people would play Lilly with some tweaks. Marisa is just a home run of a character, surprise of nobody she's super popular. Pretty sure she'll be a series staple in the future. Was hoping Manon would be higher up for similar reasons as well, people really liked her but she does struggle a lot. I just remember the first few weeks of the game she was everywhere
Just remember that even struggling as one of the weakest, she is still more popular than Guile, Blanka and Dhalsim, who are really strong characters and classics. That would up her chances of becoming a stable. Also it's jusy season 1 of the game.
Tall punch lady is indeed a cool idea. Whou woulda thunk. But yeah, Marisa is awesome. One archetype I would like to see explored in the future is a very old female character. Their representation is rather rare in gaming in general. There's Lady Butterfly in Sekiro, but that's about it. I play Marisa only because she's the most grounded. Her moves actually look like normal grappling stuff.(Besides Zangief, but he's got his own goofy moves) It's nice to see good old superman punch works in a world with magic by other name, flying sumo men and women grappling with legs alone.
What's great about the data in question is it allows you to also see it on a month by month basis. So you can see who the most popular characters were back in June 2023 and see how much their popularity has changed since the launch of the game.
I honestly think half the reason Luke's one of the most popular characters to pick in the game is because of Aleks Le's content and s*itposting. He's got a simillar effect on the community as Gianni in Ultrakill.
Dhalsim being the bottom is very unsurprising. He just doesn't play the same game as every other character does and has a lot of weird technical stuff to deal with (half circle inputs, extended hurtboxes on his moves for example). He's also a much more defensive-minded character, which means you can't just flowchart Ken every game.

people fear the highly technical characters regardless of their power. Dhalsim was top 2 by the end of SFV and he was still at the bottom of the played lists

@akilcharles3473 He wasn't good in 4, he had a widely divergent match up chart and mostly they went against him. All the rush down and vortex characters just mauled him. But then he had some matches he did super well in, just not many.
Maybe the biggest reason I mained Chunli over Ryu after the game came out was that she was picked way less (I hate playing very popular characters despite how much I like them). I made it to low Diamond and kinda stopped grinding ranked there, I still play in BH and casuals every now and then but not as often as the first few months. Especially after I take a little break from playing SF6, I start dropping serenity stream combos all over the place in the heat of battle outside training mode. It's a little frustrating but I guess that's a result of the "more technical" aspect of Chun and that's ok. High damage combos with many other characters are much much easier to execute for me, but still, Chun's a lot of fun and I'm glad I mained her. Also, I love watching the likes of Moke obliterate some of the top players in the world with Chun's ferocious offense.

Secondly, Blanka is VERY strong, ive tried him before what i think is once Blanka gets some better skins than his usage will go up. I love how blanka plays gameplay wise even at high level, however he just doesn't look very cool to most people lol No one feels like staring at blankas face day in and day out i feel lol
Thing is, if so very lil ppl play the char, it will aways be on the bottom, no matter the tier, cause very few ppl play that character. Surprises me Lily goes to 10th in general Modern C. I'm glad Marisa is doing well, at this point it's basically assured she'll become a staple, a regular of the franchise. And I hope Manon does too since she is so middle of the road (as you pointed out, even tho she is one of thr weakest characters right now, she is doing better than a few of the classic characters that are also pretty strong rn). And one thing, I dont think Marisa benefits from modern as much as many others, yet she is the second most pick on that control type on Masters, just behind Luke, for obvious reasons (that lv1).
i think i’m going to get sf6 i was deciding out of the big 3 (sf,mk,and tekken) which one i truly wanted to dive into, i love the 3d and feel of tekken and the brutality of mk but i’ve never gotten into sf before this might be the best time
generally the win%'s are a lot closer than you'd think. Like it was scandalous in the SFV days that Honda was the most winning character, and his winrate was like 57%
Damn, I’m surprised at how low Kim is. I main her so I know she can be challenging to play because she doesn’t have a DP and a lot of fake pressure, but she’s such a cool character and she had a lot of hype when she came out. I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised though, I hardly run into her on the ladder lol.
I ended up bouncing off the game after about two months because of frustration with the drive system but I never had any interest in street fighter until Marisa. What an absolute slam dunk of a character and when I watch people play her in tournament it makes me want to boot the game back up and continue the climb
Been wondering why the Shotos are so "popular" and then it hit me: they might *not* be as popular as their stats suggest. What's probably happening is that half of the people playing them on ranked are using them as their *secondary,* because they're the easiest to pick-up and play for legacy reasons. Conversely, Dhalism is probably adversely affected too, since *NO ONE* is going to spend time trying to learn him if he's not their main. It would be interesting to see what the stats look like just for the highest ranked character each player has, or for the one that has the most playtime.
@@pretzels7437I think you're misinterpreting what I said: I said their numbers might be more inflated than those of other characters by their use as secondaries, not that people don't actually main shotos.
i just hope they balance the game soon and bring more exciting fighters for season 2. there are many fan favorite characters like sakura, makoto, menat, claw, boxer, sagat and they are filling the game with these characters people barely use...
I gotta say, i think its *interesting* how universally unplayed Rashid is, this far out. Its also interesting to see that he's somehow considered decent by the population for some reason though? I know big bird and oil king do *WORK* but... like... i feel like i missed any point where the character actually looked like he was doing very much of the work and not just the player. As but a humble Platinum scrub, i mained Rashid, and the main take away was that other than very basic stuff like light whirlwind or Ysaar being potent, and some very technical stuff like X,Y, & Z leading to meaty overheads or throws with perfect math... everything else he does seems fake as hell. Like, unlike the rest of the eternal bottom 5 characters, i cant see why he wouldnt be played *more* at least in masters if it wasnt because he's not very good. I've not played SF6 in quite some time but i'd be happy to be proven wrong, if something changed.
@pastorofmuppets9346 he's not top tier here though? And he *did* get his arms chopped off in SFV by the end too. I'm not saying he wasn't amazing in SFV, but he is *not* on that level here in 6.
@SylemGistoe thats... exactly what im saying, yes. He was stronger and easier in 5 and ppl still didnt play him online much. At least i didnt see many. So idk
@pastorofmuppets9346 ah, okay- I see. Yeah, Idk either. I feel like he's getting upplayed from no idea where, because all his tricks are fake, and all his "honest" "well-rounded" stuff pales in comparison to anyone you're seeing who's actually a popular character. I thought Aki might have been lower too, but it really proves it ain't just because they're DLC. *edit* Again, not that he's TRASH... just... undercooked.
Only reason I'm surprised to see Ryu in the top 5 is because all the tier lists to this point said he was mid. Also I still can't believe Ken is more popular than Ryu. I've been a Ken main since SF2
Ryu has always been more popular than ken up until SF6. Like the SFV numbers over the years had Ryu wildly more popular than ken. Its a recent phenomenon. Tiers never really effected it.
Not really surprising. Tier lists mostly only apply to the 2k MR players, Legend players, or actual pro players. Outside of that, people really just play who they like or prefer. Heck, Jamie's in the top 8 most played characters despite his spot in the tier lists, purely from his aesthetics and design. If people like a character, they'll play them.
@@runbaaPl4y I feel that. That's the school I'm from tbh. And it makes sense that the lists are for who you said because it seems like people live and die by those things lol
he's absolutely a bottom tier character. People were just up in their feelings in the start because 1) he's a scrub killer 2) people refuse to lab against anything
@@Rooflemonger You may be a great content creator, but I gotta call you out on this one. The in-game announcer says these names out loud already. You say Manon correctly. However, A.K.I. is _"AW-kee",_ Blanka is _"BLONG-kuh"_ and Marisa is _"muh-REE-zuh"_ as verified by the game itself. Say them however you want, but you're incorrect in your implication that @rockermack7903 is wrong. ...and yes, we all still say Zangief wrong on purpose even after hearing the announcer :P
One of my takeaways is that many of the world warriors could and should be retired. Sim, Blanka, Honda and Gief have lost most of their steam and I would be happy to see some fresher designs represent their archetypes. Gief arguably still has a place but clearly nobody cares about the other three except for when competitively viable.
Yea I was thinking the same thing. Except for zangief all of the characters u listed just don’t seem to resonate with the newer fans. They all just seem so wacky and weird. They def feel like they were made In the 90s. Especially dhalsim and Blanka idk what they were smoking when designing those characters 😂😂😂
I really, *really* hope this data wakes Capcom up; you do not need the entire SF2 roster in every SF game. Let some other characters shine. You're not going to lose a significant amount of copies because Blanka isn't playable
I don't get at all why Juri is loved by many fans of SF in the US. I'm surprised Cammy and Luke are too up in the chart. I'm glad Marisa is getting some love but I feel Manon, Kimberly and Lily are too underrated. Chun-li deserves to be more on top. I would change Guile, Zangief or JP just to see again Rainbow Mika or my beloved Laura Matsuda.
Lily is hard work her gameplan is shut down by aggressive play and her defence is really poor as well. I have fun playing Lily but playing her against the rushdown monsters isn't fun in the slightest. I'm waiting on the balance patch to shift things around.
@@Rooflemonger Yea it's sucked out my enthusiasm for the game, My tolerance for dealing with the Ken's and Cammy's is near zero. Tekken 8 is on the horizon and I loved the beta so I'm going to focus on that until things change.
Might be an unpopular opinion amongst the old school players, but Dhalsim needs to be replaced. He is consistently one of the least played characters every game, one of the only legacy characters with no staying power. Atleast make a new character with similar but updated gameplay, like AKI was to FANG
I think Modern is under-explored, i use Modern Manon, JP Ken & DJ, with JP being my primary now transitioning from Manon. Modern AKi actually is nearly the same as classic.

As a casual turned competitive player who hasn't played since sf2 and mk2 was in arcades, I can confirm that juri is popular. She's God tier on modern too, there's no good reason to play her on classic. Her win screen is my desktop right now.
"No reason to play her on classic." Look, you may play Modern and you do you, but don't try to act like there are no benefits to having your full moveset. She loses important buttons (like 2MP!!!!) which are powerful, and are part of her BnB combos. Go Ohatsu can't even be done without a motion input anyway, and jump HP is another lost normal that's great for jump pressure variation. From Reno Gazette Journal regarding Juri's Modern moveset: _Here is a rundown of the Classic moves that are missing from Juri’s Modern control scheme._ _Standing Light Punch_ _Standing Medium Kick_ _Crouching Medium Punch_ _Jumping Light Punch_ _Jumping Medium Punch_ _Jumping Heavy Punch_ _Kyosesho is not listed in Juri’s Modern Command List but can still be performed with R2 + Medium Attack. This special can be used as a hit confirm move for chaining._ _Go Ohsatsu is not listed in Juri’s Modern Command List but can still be performed manually with QCF + Heavy Attack button. You can also still extend it by simply pressing the Special Attack button as long as you have the requisite Fuha charge._
@@ryo-kai8587 the only real advantage IMHO is one frame super. I like to throw out the motion only qcf+heavy when I really need to schmix somebody. People assume you can't do inputs, and you do end up using a small moveset.
It’s insane to me that dhalsim is the least used. Even despite him being one of the more difficult to play characters he’s far from the worst and has legacy
Modern or classic I'm a Chun-Li main. With Ken and Luke being on top makes me feel like majority of the gamers are kinda dumb since they're all about endless attack streak and mindlessly doing combos while others might be more of a thinker's chioces. No offense to Ken and Luke mains. ;)
oh yeah, also a thin g I disagree: Dhalsim doesn't deserve a place on the roaster. Nobody likes that character and e erybody hates playig against it. The world would be a better place without him (and Blanka)
Controls type statistics are kinds lame. People usually just play the ones who are popular, mostly regardless of how good they are with either modern or classic controls (like rashid who is in similar places in both polls)
well regardless of what you think the stats show there's actually a marked difference for some characters in terms of usage when it comes to modern and classic
I don't think character difficult is the thing for the bottom chararacters in terms of popularity its percieved annoyance as as it turns out normies don't like Dhalsim or Guile because they don't like those characters plays styles which they think is cheap and spammy. Anyone with intermediate knowledge/skill or higher may believe those characters are more difficult to win with more than they are necessarily hard to learn. But casuals just don't those characters. The same causals who hates Sagat Tiger shot spam. I think Rashid is almost for the same reason but I think normies don't like him because he's just an annoying character outside the meta. They don't think he is cool. Its why Manon maybe high for the high tiers. Literally horny people and people who really like her design is keeping her alive

I love how blanka plays gameplay wise even at high level, however he just doesn't look very cool to most people lol No one feels like staring at blankas face day in and day out i feel lol
My girl AKI is 15 strong through it all 😂
God I love that this guy knows how to pronounce Manon accurately!
of course, he's Canadian.
And one thing, I dont think Marisa benefits from modern as much as many others, yet she is the second most pick on that control type on Masters, just behind Luke, for obvious reasons (that lv1).
i think i’m going to get sf6 i was deciding out of the big 3 (sf,mk,and tekken) which one i truly wanted to dive into, i love the 3d and feel of tekken and the brutality of mk but i’ve never gotten into sf before this might be the best time
we jus need that win rate data at this point...
generally the win%'s are a lot closer than you'd think.
It does have the word master in there.
Half of the Ken amd Ryu players are just people waiting for Akuma, who will probably easily replace Juri or Cammy in top 5.
Juri is pretty uncommon in Europe from what I've experienced, but the rest seems pretty accurate.
I ended up bouncing off the game after about two months because of frustration with the drive system but I never had any interest in street fighter until Marisa.
What an absolute slam dunk of a character and when I watch people play her in tournament it makes me want to boot the game back up and continue the climb
Keep grinding my dude
Luke dropping 3 places with classic only speaks volumes and is so sad haha
I don't play Dhalsim either but it's surprising to me to see him at the bottom of every list
Suprised Jamie is so popular
Good or bad way?
@@JokeboxMachine good, he's hard to use and really bad
Lily's not in dead last 🎉
Lease use characters: When the populous don't like your gameplan in a fight
Been wondering why the Shotos are so "popular" and then it hit me: they might *not* be as popular as their stats suggest. What's probably happening is that half of the people playing them on ranked are using them as their *secondary,* because they're the easiest to pick-up and play for legacy reasons. Conversely, Dhalism is probably adversely affected too, since *NO ONE* is going to spend time trying to learn him if he's not their main. It would be interesting to see what the stats look like just for the highest ranked character each player has, or for the one that has the most playtime.
Or, you know, people always loved Ryu. And Ken is easy and high tier currently
Poster boy
Easy to use
Simple gameplan
Classic
"Nah bro people dont actually main shotos in this game"
@@pretzels7437I think you're misinterpreting what I said: I said their numbers might be more inflated than those of other characters by their use as secondaries, not that people don't actually main shotos.
i just hope they balance the game soon and bring more exciting fighters for season 2. there are many fan favorite characters like sakura, makoto, menat, claw, boxer, sagat and they are filling the game with these characters people barely use...
Buff Kimberly please and thank you Capcom
Something about being a Hawk and not being popular
Liking a Hawk is only for the elite, the commoners can't handle the responsibility
Never saw him online in sfv either and he was consistently top tier, also not that difficult there
@pastorofmuppets9346 he's not top tier here though?
*edit*
Again, not that he's TRASH... just... undercooked.
I have been holding offf sf6 until Akoomer gets released, tekken 8 will be fine in the meantime.
Im.here with my angry face and my arms folded while i hope for something gd for manon 😂
@@Rooflemonger I know! It's really crazy to see! Like it's a moment for Ken users for sure but it's kinda weird and scary lol
No surprise that Ken is at the top lol
Is Honda really considered "really bad" now? 😢
he's absolutely a bottom tier character. People were just up in their feelings in the start because 1) he's a scrub killer 2) people refuse to lab against anything
Poor Aki. :(
How do you pronounce Manon correctly but not A.K.I. and Blanka
I think its time you found out that you do not know how to pronounce aki and blanka correctly
I love my bottom tiers.. Aki and lily 🤸🏾♂️
I could guess about the lower ranks that characters like ryu and Ken are easier than Juri Cammy and chun so they move out of those ranks easier.
Glad to see Marisa in Top 10 all around and 4th for Modern controls.
Just wish street fighter had more content instead of them focusing so hard on avatar skins
Casual Juri and Cammy main checking in. SF6 is losing alot of steam over MK1 for me with nothing to earn offline.
👋
Sad to see Manon as unpopular character...
she's pretty popular considering shes a bottom 3 character. Shes well above honda and lily
Every time I see Lily placed so low, I feel really bad for my girl T_T... she's a very underestimate character.
Her one reversal is a slow level 1. Not underestimated, poorly balanced
JP not even top 5 on any of these lists? Fair and honest JP finally settling where deserves to be in top 10 😌
And yet he still belongs in an NRS game
NA fans are degnerates
Gross get better tastes.
Lily is hard work her gameplan is shut down by aggressive play and her defence is really poor as well.
I have fun playing Lily but playing her against the rushdown monsters isn't fun in the slightest. I'm waiting on the balance patch to shift things around.
Lily is just bad, there is no denying it. She desperately needs QoL changes
Sumo fans at the bottom of the list just the way we like it, keeps people from learning the MU
honestly id rather honda be less gimmicky and be more fundamentally sound.
Lol my favorite is at the bottom, no surprise.
Edit: of every list lmaoooo. No one likes Blanka but me😅
Wait what? Jamie is top 8 in master? The worst character in the game?
Jamie is way better than lily lol
@@Rooflemonger I mean yeah. You get what I mean. Even lily got in tournament top 8. And it's clearly not the lack of players that stop jammie from doing it as well.
Even tho he's popular, u never see Jamie in tournaments. That goes to show top players know he's not viable to win and needs buffs more than any character. @@captainphoton1693
The best character is blanka and will entertain 0 arguments!!!!!! 😂
Ryu is boomer character confirmed xD
Tell that to Paladin and Ending Walker, 16 and 17-year old beasts who play Ryu at a very high level.
I miss sakura
I'm surprised that modern Ken is number 1. I thought modern Ken sucked.
From Reno Gazette Journal regarding Juri's Modern moveset:
_Here is a rundown of the Classic moves that are missing from Juri’s Modern control scheme._
_Standing Light Punch_
_Standing Medium Kick_
_Crouching Medium Punch_
_Jumping Light Punch_
_Jumping Medium Punch_
_Jumping Heavy Punch_
_Kyosesho is not listed in Juri’s Modern Command List but can still be performed with R2 + Medium Attack. This special can be used as a hit confirm move for chaining._
_Go Ohsatsu is not listed in Juri’s Modern Command List but can still be performed manually with QCF + Heavy Attack button.
Honda should be doing better as he is top tier for players in platinum or bellow.
Tekken exists. This game is dead to me until the patch and even then i will need to see what it is haha
Hello and welcome? It’s intros like this that make me want to play a different genre of video games…
you probably should considering how weak you are
