I originally preordered this book due to my experience with the loss of my fiancé in 2021. We both love your music and had seen you in concert together. I lost a close friend Monday and the book arrived Wednesday. I have cried with every word I read but it’s so therapeutic to have someone else go through similar feelings and emotions. And have the ability to still look at faith for guidance through the dark times. Thank you for sharing with us.
I bought a copy of your book in online format and devoured it in a few hours. Beautifully written. I feel bad that you didn’t share how you truly felt, I would have prayed for you and the family more. I guess I should have known. I share your hope that your book is read by the multitudes. Praying many souls will come to Jesus through your book.
Just ordered your book and I can’t wait to read it while in the hunting blind this year. I lost my son in 2020 and I am looking forward to learn how you moved forward and found faith. I tell everyone that my son’s death saved my soul with the lord. He will forever live on through me.
When you went chapter by chapter the other day I teared up with the dad chapter. I remember you losing your dad and how devastated you were. I am now at those steps. It has been 10 months with mine, unexpectedly. I have had other losses and grief, but NOTHING to this pain. He was not only my dad, but my dearest friend. I am so looking forward to reading it tomorrow as soon as the Amazon truck delivers it. We knew (hubby/I) when we saw you, after you came back from the tragedy that you weren't ok or you, in the sense the Granger we had seen or talked to in years prior. Wouldn't have expected any different. We also knew when we saw you Nov 2021 (Sacramento) that so much healing had happened and was obviously continuing. Look forward to others who don't know this journey and read the book that they will take away so much hope. Not sure if you talk about time in the book, but I would love eventually if you address that. I feel like time is moving yet everything is jumbled, yet my mind can clearly go back to the day of losing my dad like yesterday , but a concert 2 days ago feels like years ago. Was unable to go to your last California show, but I want to thank you for all your music when I jumped in 11yrs ago and the openness you and Amber have had with all of us. Man. I'm in tears right now just from opening the front cover of your book today. I never even listened to your music much or knew about what happened, I just skimmed past another influencer I follow advertising the release of this book. Not even knowing your story or what it was about I go, "Hey, my son's name is River" turned to a coworker and said, "Did you know the country singer Granger Smith wrote a book called 'like a River'?" He goes, "No, but it's probably about his son that died." I ordered it instantly and read up a little about your son. I can't even fathom what you must have gone through. I have 3 boys now, 2, 7 (River), and 9. I'm going to make sure to hug them all a little extra tight today. I wish you and your family the best Granger, from one dad to another. Thank you for this opportunity to read about your son and your story.
My wife got it on audible, but I just ordered one on Amazon to have the real thing to try to read it, but also to help the ratings! Amazon already had it #1 bestseller in the Christian category. I hope yeeyee nation will get it #1 in even more categories!
August 3, I read Like a River, that book really got to me as I was a suicidal lady and a lot of what you went through I d some similar in my life, I divorced, my son had bad trips on drugs and I felted I was to blame for all this, I sought medical help, I did ask the Lord for help me and until I read your book things cleared up , I am from Canada and 78yr old, been all alone for 13 yrs, my health isn't all good depressed some and still on medication, I lost my mom's bible in a fire, what is the best bible right now for me to read easy one to read...God Bless 🙏🙏 I lost my mentor dad in 2005 and my mom in 2019, its been a rough road but Like a river found it very helpfull.
Granger, I can’t remember how I across you weather it was music are the Smiths , I thinking the smiths, but I have followed the Smiths since the beginning . I’ll never forget that Day, River”s accident. I and pretty sure many others felt the same, SADNESS and HURT for the Smith’s . And now I can’t wait to read the book. I no it will be a good Read

8 symbolizes a new beginning, a new order or creation, and man's true 'born again' event when he is resurrected from the dead into eternal life.
I'll be ordering your book. Our daughter lost her husband unexpectedly a month ago on June 25th. Just after celebrating her birthday the night of the 24th with their kids, after putting them to bed ages 5 and 8. ~ Later after midnight, he began complaining of indigestion and some chest pains. She wanted to take him to the ER but he wouldn't go... him, thinking it was just indigestion. She didn't go back to bed, and just went to her office. She heard him get up and go toward the bathroom. He collapsed and she heard a thump. His body blocked the door-way and she couldn't get into him. She called 911. They arrived pretty quick. But he passed at home. My husband and I got to their house within 10 minutes. He stayed with the kids as I went on to the hospital with her. They didn't tell her he had passed at the house. But I knew in my spirit, he had. ~ Her grief and deep sorrow is unexplainable. He was just 48. They were always inseparable and so in love with their life and little ones. The children are going through a grief that is so sad to watch. They loved their daddy so much. I had purchased Amber's book "Where Dinosaurs Roar" back in Christmas 2022 as a Christmas gift to the kids. It was their little girl's (5) favorite book. Our daughter broke the news to them one at a time the following morning on the 25th. She used Amber's book to help their little one understand. She was very sad and cried, but understood that daddy was in heaven where the Dinosaurs roared. She was able to help her mama break the news to their little boy (8) when he woke up. ~ It's very hard watching our daughter and grandchildren suffer so deeply. ~ She and the kids have started back to church now; and she has started back to work. Her boss is a good christian boss and has allowed her to work from home and take as much time as she wants to. But there isn't a day she doesn't cry for long periods of time. The little ones have unexpected meltdowns as well. I go there to be with them daily. And will continue to do so as long as it takes. Please keep them in your prayers. And I thank you for listening. And I thank you for your Christian heart for others. We love you and Amber, and your sweet little ones as well. God bless you forever and always!

Hey Granger, My name is Sean and I’m from Michigan. My Girlfriend (20) and I (18) put a pause on our relationship recently in loo of her younger Sister getting diagnosed with a extremely rare aggressive cancer, and her working a full time job at a daycare and training for a new job at a intermediate school for special needs children, she also works as a babysitter on the side here and there.
She is a very closed off person, she is introverted and struggles with emotions. She also isn’t the biggest fan of being bought things, And can be hard to do things for.
She is also a HUGE family person so every single moment she can spare she spends it with her sister and comforting her family.
We live about 2hr 45 minutes drivetime away from each other so seeing each other is difficult because of my welding job and welding school.
Ever since all of this started she has been very very stressed and not as social as before, she also can be rather hard to talk to because she doesn’t put in as much in conversation so it’s hard to read her. She shows little affection now but does show more on the weekends when she’s not not as stressed. She also doesn’t like to update me on everything because she wants to deal with it all alone.
She constantly says “I’m fine” and “I’ll be okay” and I feel like I should be doing something as her significant other and also a man, I hate seeing my girl who has done nothing but good for everybody around her, go through all of this all at once. It also feels like she doesn’t want to talk about these things during this whole period, so she can keep her mind on what’s important for her at the moment.
My question is, How do I help her?
Being there just doesn’t feel enough, I send her memes or baby goat videos, (she absolutely adores them) we play video games occasionally to get her mind off things but I feel like I could be doing more and that I’m failing as a man and her significant other.
I understand her situation is a lot and that I’m not her priority right now, but I feel like I need to do more for her.

I read your book today. I have to admit you hid your feelings better than I ever thought. Amber showed us what she was going through. I knew you were suffering but not to that extent. I'm glad you broke it was not the way I would have wanted you to but once you let go and let God you begun to grieve and heal. I cried most of the way through.

I have this book pre-ordered on Audible and pre-ordered on Amazon. I’m certain I’ll finish the audiobook before I get my hard copy in the mail. I’m so excited for this book I can hardly contain myself. I feel like it’s Christmas Eve and I’m waiting for Santa. I wonder if Audible will release it at midnight…..you can bet I’ll be staying up just to check. Ahhhh is it the 1st yet? ❤❤❤ I just couldn’t keep it to myself, I just sent both my sisters messages asking them to pick up the book too. Yeah, Amazon is telling me I won't get mine until at least August 11th, and I'm bummed. I guess if I had Prime I'd get it sooner, but I don't order enough from them to justify paying for that. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait, though.
They are telling me the 4th. You can get prime on a trial basis and then cancel before the 2 weeks is up if it’s something you won’t use for no cost. Order the book during your trial. They only charge you if you keep it. At least that was my experience.

Have you considered Audible? I think I only pay like $14.95 a month or so. Granger actually reads the book and you get a little extra conversation between him and Amber too I think. You should get that immediately. Just a thought.

Granger, a question for clarification. You have previously said that you're leaving touring for ministry. You've talked about seminary, working with your local church leaders, and being more involved in your local congregation. At the start of this video, you said you're leaving touring music to get this book into the hands of people and tell this story. I'm trying to reconcile those. Would it be correct to say that your experience that you detail in this book will be a large part of what you see as your ministry? In other words, these are not conflicting statements. They are just two ways of looking at the same thing?
David, I just find the Walmart talkshoplive video and the way I understand from watching that he will be doing speaking engagements at churches like on a Sunday and then doing a book signing in that town on a different day like before or after.
@@terrybialowas2641 Yes, he mentioned in this video that he'd be doing some preaching and promoting the book, so I see how he'll be doing both. I guess my question is that if he'd never written this book would he still be pursuing preaching? It's more a question of his thought process that has led him to this point in his life.
