    I don't get why people are so phobic towards small knives, I love them. If I'm gonna do some real work I'll bust out a fixed blade, who does super heavy work with a folding knife anyways??

      I have larger hands, so I like the larger handles, but that’s the only advantage I get from larger folders. Though I also love smaller knives like my pilar, too

      Unless you are taking out Tangos, what can't you cut in normal life with a sub 3 inch blade?
      If I have to cut anything thicker I will use a more appropriate tool

    • @SweWince
      @SweWince 4 года назад +2

      @Adam Cosper I chose phobic because it's irrational. Nothing wrong with big folders but a fixed knife does most things better than any big folder except maybe pocketability.

      @Adam Cosper No nothing irrational with carrying it, my point was that so many people despise and disregard small knives irrationally. I love me a small knife and the compactness of folding knives is the only reason I carry them, but I don't tend to carry larger folders due to personal taste.

    I actually like the orange because it's a "safe" color. When I get this knife out in front of people it doesn't seem scary because it's safety orange, like a traffic cone. The murdery factor on this is extremely low which is nice as someone who works in an office.

      I’ve noticed the same effect to a lesser degree with wooden scales. My North Fork or even my mini crooked river, don’t seem to garner unwanted attention if I use them for some utility task out in public, the way a black G10 knife will.

    After resisting getting a Bugout for almost 2 years, I relented and gave myself one for Christmas. I was going to get some orange scales until this one was announced.
    It's smaller that my Mini Griptilian and exactly the same size as my CRK Inkosi small which is about as small a knife as I would would go for EDC. Normally I have to loosen the pivot about 5 to 10 degrees so that the blade will fall shut, not this time. My Mini Grip doesn’t fall shut without a little wrist and I thought it might have been because the blade was so light, I guess not. I’m very happy that Benchmade produced this one and selected my favorite color for the scales.
    I swapped the hardware with my blue Bugout for a complementary contrasting accent on each knife. This Mini might wind up in a tie for third position with the Bugout in my extensive collection behind my Brown Exponent and Benchmade 943.

    I'm a fan of the ti lockbar for two reasons. First, I want this to be a super lightweight knife, ti is super light. Second and more importantly, titanium is a non-reactive metal. Won't rust, corrode, etc. For a knife that will be with me on the trail for months at a time, that matters a lot. Great knife!

  • @Rusty_Shackleford1
    @Rusty_Shackleford1 4 года назад +11

    Went through 3 warranty replacements from benchmade. The action felt like sandpaper on all 3 as well as awful lock stick. I told them my concerns about using titanium for the lock pin and they just ignored me. They upgraded me to a 940 but it was like sandpaper with bad lock stick as well, along with very deep machining marks on the blade and an off center edge. Sold it and bought a Spyderco Para 3 in S35VN and have never looked back. I have also since picked up a Para 3 Lightweight and believe it is superior in nearly every way.

    • @Phaminator525
      @Phaminator525 3 года назад

      I have the issue of the machining marks on my 940. Kind of wish they did quality control like spyderco, imo their designs are so much better than spyderco but spyderco beats them in value and qc. Benchmade sent me a new Axis bar on my first regular 535 when they came out. I flicked it open and shut like 1000 times until my thumb hurt and it didn't smooth out so they sent a new one.
    It was "grinding" along the rounded part of the blade and sticking like crazy. Felt like sand stuck in the action almost.

    I’m going out on a limb here, I don’t think this knife is going to be more popular than the bugout. For a few reasons, handle is extremely small and uncomfortable. I wear large sized gloves (I think average for a male) and I can only get about 3 to 3.5 fingers in. Couple that with a thin handle, no dice. Second, the price. I know its made in America, but I think that is still $120 is $20 to $30 too much for this knife. Last, the color combinations it comes in is meh.

    • @tsloth1390
      @tsloth1390 4 года назад

      My hands are XL, I can squeeze into some large gloves depending on the make, but I find the regular bugout a bit weirdly shaped and sized for my hands so maybe this one will be a better size for a little knife. Ergonomics are funny though, I love my griptilian but my roommate can’t operate the axis lock comfortably because his hands are probably a medium. Couldn’t agree more on the price though, for the same money you can buy a griptilian or mini grip? This knife is $40-$50 overpriced.

    So you mention a sharpening choil.
    Maybe a video talking about general blade features, including the choil.
    I for one don't really like a choil. In my view it is a place for materials to hang up when you are cutting them. It seems like a feature that is better for the knife maker rather than the knife user.
    I can come up with many examples of great knife designs that don't have one. Also many historical knives didn't have one. I don't know when they start appearing in bladed tools or weapons. A quick look at French and English swords in the early 1800's I am not seeing them, or in original Bowie knives.

    The action on mine was absolutely horrendous... Like to the extent that I didn't feel safe trying to open or close mine with one hand. Even loosening the pivot screw did nothing. In fact I loosened it to the point that you could slide the pivot screw back and forth in the housing and the action was still crap. I also wasn't a fan of the balance, the blade just feels to heavy for the handle.
    I like a knife with a 3" blade or under so I really wanted to love this knife, but I was very disappointed by it. Maybe some custom scales could remedy the two issues I had, but after paying $135 for the knife (I purchased the white and black version) that is a hard pill to swallow.
