Seeing how you align the washers and get that weird shaped pin through the whole stack was super helpful nick. I had my bugout fully disassembled last night and got stuck on that last step before going to bed. Woke up early and and your video was the first and last I had to watch to help me out. Thanks so much, great job
Yep I’m never doing this. I know you just made this look easy but I think you are just very experienced in this. If it was me I’d be there for hours trying to get this back together
I've found it easier to leave the front scale off for reassembly. That leaves one liner loose, and you have more wiggle room to get the washers and blade back in. Also, insert a piece of toothpick or Q-tip stick to hold the axis lock back. Just put the Rogue OD green G-10 scales on mine. The orange stand-offs and thumb stud look good with the green IMO. Went together perfectly, perfect action and centering.
Ok, you really do have small hands. I've got small hands even for a woman and I think this thing looks the same in my hands as it does in yours. I just got one yesterday. Love it!
waiting on my t6 wiha driver and lube to come in, to do a total cleaning, but for now just a t10. cleaned and pollished the washer and end of the blade a bit, and its back to being super smooth
I watched your Bugout vid while dissassemling my own, for new scales etc... I almost took a hamer to it! I believe you where pretty close to blowing a gasket to. Mine is still in a bag of parts but this vid might help...I hope.
i caught bugout fever for a second but the found the off-center blade to be unacceptable. i prefer the SOG Terminus XR S35vn as my lightweight EDC but it has its warts as well.
sharp flipper. I hand to significantly sand it down. that combined with strong detent make it a real finger shredder especially if you accidentally have your thumb on the lock. nevertheless I love this knife. love the blade, size, weight, price and the lock is better than the axis lock.
i like the SOG lock better than benchmade or spyderco. easier to use. one thing i hate about benchmade, and I've owned several axis lock knives, is when they are new if you flick the knife hard the lock jams. the sog has never done that
I just ordered the black and white mini bugout yesterday. I immediately went and ordered the flytanium cooper scales for it as well. Great minds, right?
@@thehowtoos i only have 1 side of the white scales. I got impatient and cut one side off with my Dremmel. Sorry. I have a set of the orange scales, if your interested
I wash my knife in hot soapy water working the components. Then I rinse in hot water working the components. they I blast the knife with WD40 removing the water and any soap residues also working the knife components. then I dry with a clean rag and let sit for a few hours under a lamp to allow the WD40 to evaporate. Then I lube the lock and joint with a few micro drops of 5w30 synthetic. Works like a charm. No need for disassembly or special oil. Unless you want to.
Pulling back on the pivot spring is essential to getting the D shaped pivot back in all the way once you have it started into the D shaped channel. Also, using your business card method of pushing the washers into place was helpful. I notice you don't cover it here.
hmmm, "hopefully" this guy won't be a surgeon...... and saying hopefully this and hopefully that as he's working on your heart valve. enjoyed the video😁👍👍
my blade stop screw wont budge no many how many times I try to open it. For the life of my I cant disassemble it. It sucks because I want to switch out the scales but I cant because it wont budge.
Ohhh yeah! Lol love your videos n just picked up my first Axis lock knife. This video will definitely. Become handy 👌 you don't use blue removable loc-tite on the pivot screw?
Question? 9:57 you have a D shaped pivot, so the pivot is locked into non rotational. How is the second screw supposed to come loose? Maybe vibration? Where would most knives ever encounter that kind of vibration? Color me confused.
jake legg it can come loose through many forms of small and constant vibration. The action of simply flicking it open repeatedly can loosen the pivot screw. Those small parts are slamming open and closed on a smaller scale, however they are "slamming" on that minute scale. Same with the closing action. Basically just using the knife can loosen a screw if it's not loctited.
@@thejuicer9706, I'm in the minority here, but I also don't like their ergonomics. Being left handed, I do like the Axis lock, but Spyderco makes the Manix 2 that fits my hand MUCH better and has the ball bearing lock. Also Spyderco's QA is outstanding. I've never gotten a janky knife from them.
4:23 thats the wrong way to do it...if you do that its a pain.. just put one washer in,then put the pivot in then put the blade in then slide the pivot in a little more then put the last washer in and slide the pivot all way in.. takes a couple of seconds
Got one of these from my buddy, told me I could keep it if I can put it back together. Free knife thanks to you sir!!
I find it VASTLY easier to take it all the way apart, but everyone’s different, and that’s what makes us beautiful!
I think Nick Shabazz is the Bob Ross of Gear reviews. So relaxing and likeable. ;)
I realize this video is old, but I’m new to the Bugout and this was perfect. Thanks Nick.
This video saved my butt when I had my Mini Bugout apart and couldn't get the pivot back through. Thank you!!
The first video I ever watched on this channel was the original bugout disassembly video. Very entertaining

Thanks for the help. I was losing my mind changing the scales lol. Good vid
Sad that a $100+ knife doesn't come from the factory absolutely perfect. Good thing they are easy to work on.
Operation is in no way a specifically American thing. I loved playing it with my cousins in the 80’s here in the U.K. 😊
It was a staple for kids in Brazil too

I watch marshall at watch restoration and its a bit of a marvel, all the parts and special tools. This, however, I could just about manage. Helpful.

Thanks, Nick! I love my iFixit tools! I am glad that I got one of the big bit kits in the wooden case before they stopped selling them.
Thank you. You saved my ass on this one. Was having trouble getting the blade back on
“ The blade edge is a little asymmetrical so it’s making it look a little funky” 😂
Love them orange thumb studs though.

I would love to see you play operation, with sharks with friggin laser beams ( movie reference).

jake smith would you want to sell the old white scales?

Great video. You deserve more knives.
If you can get one, I would love to see a disassembly and review of the buck flashpoint 770

Curious... Why do you have two different driver tool? What's with the color coding?
We have. ‘Operation’ here too... or we did when I was a kid and when my kids were kids, but it’s probably been replaced by some online creation!
Thanks nick .
If you remove the top screw above the pivot you should have a bit more space to slide the blade and washers in.
Almost like picking a lock. :)
Thanks for sharing
Nick -- are the scales the same density and composition as Mini Barrage ? Thanks
Hi Nick, is the washer asymmetrical? I remember you said the full size bugout is asymmetric.

By second screw do you mean second pivot screw?
I believe that this knife, like the mini griptillian, has only one pivot screw
@@mrsw916 Yes I believe so. The pivot with female threads. Then the screw with male threads ( second ).
I tried to type carefully.
Yeah that's how it's constructed, is your question about how it could come unintentionally loose?

The pivot insertion is the only thing I TRULY hate about my mini grip. Its a pain, no 2 ways about it.
👍
This is why I can't bring myself to order and Benchmade knives. The factory QA is inconsistent at best.
their tolerances are unacceptable for the price
