Your preparation was much more elaborate than mine. I just gave my squirrels a four pound bucket of hickory nuts, a few pounds of birdseed and three fruit infused suet cakes.
The cat is thinking: there is something I should be doing about this, but naaa... i like the show.

Years ago when I first started feeding squirrels we had 1 black walnut tree. I gather the walnuts in the fall and leave them in areas around our property for the squirrels to eat. Most will be eaten but many buried. We have around 35 black walnut trees now lol. Thank you for sharing this video and all you do to help ALL wildife.❤❤

This makes me remember a long time ago when I was a college student, and I used to put birdseed and sunflower seeds on the windowsill of my dorm room. It was such fun watching the birds but there was also a squirrel who came to be called Jacobus (after some medieval character I studied). Jacobus used to thump his little paws on the window if there were no sunflower seeds on the sill. Happy memory.

Pecans have been popular here as well. The walnuts get looked over until there isn't anything else, then they take them. They love peanuts in shells over peanuts outside of shells, even though both are salt-free. Bowls of black sunflower seeds always seem appreciated by squirrels and birds alike. There is a small park near my home that has quite a few squirrels. I noticed that their favorite nuts are walnuts, when I throw mixed shelled nuts to them they always go for the walnuts first before eating the rest.

I also went today in the rain to my squirrel friends in San Diego balboa park and gave them a feast of all kinds of nuts in shell and without shelll...They all were in the trees no where to be seen, hiding from the rain, but as soon as I called, they all came and the rain didn't really bother them haha

We treated our garden friends more today as well, Trickster, Carson, Sniper, Flash, Gomez (as he has a stripe like a moustache) I know we should not have a fave but Carson is such a gent like Carson in Downton Abbey, he just sits on our garden sofa with both paws to his chest and waits for us to see him and he lets us hand feed him walnuts, such a gent. Bless them all.

Happy Squirrel Appreciation Day. Yay the whole gang showed up. Twenty !! When I lived in Orlando Florida, about 20 miles west of TMK, is what is called the Bok Singing Tower. There you can buy, or bring with you, goodies for the squirrels. They are habituated to people and will approach and take food from you, not so skittish. It used to have a former name, but I forget it now.

Yup. Squirrels are extremely valuable to our ecosystem. Every time they forget one of the nuts/seeds they bury, a new tree is born.
