    2 water barrels
    BIG bundle of watering hose

Figs do very well in this country! - had some beautifully ripe and sweet ones from my friends tree for several years … am umming and aahing about planting one myself. House along the road has a huge one in their front garden, prolific fruiter
Oh and a name for one of the frogs (or toads) you may have is obvious ..... has to be Gazza!

The frog has to be named Gary after the missing member of your team 😂
I suggest the no-till method instead of digging the weeds out of the new beds, gather loads of cardboard and convince Shane he needs to invest in a bulk load of compost

Hello, this vid is reminiscent of your days with Gary, I love the allotment idea that people can use to grow things because people who live in a city don't have the room at home, a wonderful government initiative. All weeds and greenery without seeds can be used as compost, thanks for the vid Alex cheers!!🥰👍👍👍🙏

great job with the clean up! so glad Alex came and helped. the pond needs cleaning, stagnant water is a recipe for mosquitos and their eggs are in there too. Put in a closed circuit water feature to circulate the water and you will have more frogs and toads come hang out in that pond. it's cool to see the frog there, It's a big frog I would call it Brutus or brute for short. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see what you grow in your garden. Fresh soil is needed as the slugs have robbed the soil of its nutrients. Good luck with keeping it low cost. Show us what you got going on. super excited for you.

Before you go planting, I'd suggest making and placing slug traps around the yard! Have some dishes of yeast and water or beer and place them in some low dishes or saucers. Caffeine also kills them so if you have coffee grounds, spread them around! It'll also be beneficial to plants or if there's a coffee shop around see if you can get a bag or bucket of coffee grounds that otherwise would be thrown away. I go with the coffee grounds method but also mix in diatomaceous earth as it too is a pest repellent.
For the fig, apple tree, and grape vines you can use copper strips around the trunks/base of the vines as slugs really don't like them. If you have some budget you could get copper screens and they'd need to be at least 6 inches tall above ground (hold on that 's in Freedom Units, I think that would be 15.5cm across the pond for you) and buried a few inches in the soil. Slugs get a shock that they don't like as their slime trail and the high conductivity of the copper gives them the shock of their life!

First building project should be a double compost bin setup. On to pile in food scraps, dry grasses, etc and the other to turn the compost into. Some have 3 bays, the third is for 'finishing' the compost.
Two big rocks placed close to the edge of the pond and frogs and the other water creatures, bugs can get a drink without drowning.

I know its a bit like chalk and cheese because they are designed for two different jobs Technically, but that do you prefer? ego or stihl, I went back to using the ego hedge trimmer multitool, after using the kombi with hedge trimmer, and have to say the ego is much lighter, the activation switch is so much better, but wow the power is so underwhelming after using stihl, I was originally a stihl 131 kombi petrol but went to ego, because I wanted to go battery, after having problems with the batteries, I invested in the stihl battery kombi 135r. its heavy that bloomin switch when hedge trimming is a ballache, but really is a powerful bit of kit, just need that switch sorting.

Does your local council sell compost? Most do from their recycling. Cheaper than going to the garden centre! Our local household recycling site also sells stuff, and they stock a lot of garden tools. I do not understand why people just not sell the contents with the garden shed when they sell the house. Just so the new owners needs to be new tools!

Sadly with all the modern gardening tools available today that takes the hard labour out of gardening and yet seeing the people having no time to manage their garden is a growing trend in seeing how much trash is stashed in their gardens seems to be a general worldwide trend to falling standards of living is the reason why we have littering in our streets and countryside and people accumulating so much rubbish and buying objects that are not fit for purpose and global trends of merchandise and advertising that people buy things that they don’t need don’t live up to their expectations and do what they claim they do. It’s marketing and strategy to consumer spending and the throwing away mentality of society today. The world is suffering from food shortages and seeing people who have massive gardens and they are overwhelmed with overgrowth of grass and weeds and trees self seeding the brambles etc. back in the early 50s and 60s I grew up with families having a vegetable patch and growing fruit trees etc and my own father spent all his time tending the garden and it was pristine and not a single weed. The front garden was a seasonal planting of flowers and neat lawn mowing was an old fashioned push mower and no grass collecting box and rakes and sweeping up the grass cutting. No hedge trimmer just garden shears. He worked in the building trade has a plumber in all weathers. Having 6 children to support the neighbours all had beautiful well kept gardens and tools that involved manual hard work. Today people have more time on their hands but choose television and internet and mobile phones etc to leisure time and enjoy going out more often than doing the garden and maintaining their home. Looking back to my mother and grandmother slaves to a wash tub and wood dolly’s and mangling to sqeeze out the water from the clothes and rinse everything by hand to no automatic washing machine and tumble dryer. Pegging washing outside. People today have become more lazy and unhealthy habits and overeating and can now not physically do anything because of their unhealthy lifestyle. Obesity is a global problem in many parts of the world where fast food and convenience stores have sprung up. See the bigger picture of people riding around in extra large vehicles and eating themselves into an early grave. The internet is full of people who have disabilities from being overweight and can not maintain their own homes and gardens is growing rapidly. Plus people are not interested in making a conscious effort to take care of their own environment to save their own environment is a global issue.
