Great sound. I've always wanted a tweed Bassman in my arsenal but was never sure if they were strictly for gigging or manageable in a home environment. Would you say that your volume here fills the room good without irritating neighbors?
I know what you mean about bigger amps at home. I guess it doesn’t really affect me *so much* because I don’t use it for it’s tweedy character, so much as its ability as a soulful pedal platform. To get that tweed bark, it’s gotta be cranked but I keep mine between 3-4 (sometimes even below 3 on gigs if the sound system/in-ears are working for me). RonnIE O. That’s actually the reason I upgraded to this amp. I had a blues deville and while it worked nicely for a lot of things, it was SUPER bass heavy. This amp has a much tighter, more tamable bass. Ultimately, I could never keep my low end from flubbing out with the deville when I ran it clean...especially on the low E and A strings. The bassman stays a lot tighter in that range
The “standouts” are an nos Mullard at7 In v1 and an mib mullard gz. I use new production 5881s power tubes as well...they’re just a SLIGHTLY superior 6l6 to my ears. I put a little disclaimer about that in one of the more boring clips. Honestly, I just wanted to tame the volume a bit and get a rectifier that I knew would last a decade. This amp sounded almost exactly the same when it was stock. The tubes I swapped in just sweetened it a bit in the direction I wanted. The other thing at play here is that I use this amp professionally so I feel the need to keep the most “reliable” tubes I can find in it. Don’t wanna be fiddlin around in the back of my amp at the office haha
Is it a re-issue? How good are they compared to the original ones? Does it get good Hendrix Stevie Ray type crunch with no pedals? I want to hear it with NO pedals to see if it is worth getting one. How much are they new? Does it have reverb or tremolo? I am looking for the hugest Hendrix Stevie ray type tone. Is this the amp for that? Or, is a head and cab Bassman better than this Bassman combo?
This is a reissue. They’re a little less “tweedish” than the originals but that’s about it. These amps are really basic as far as getting an overdriven sound goes. If you stuff an at7 or an ay7 in v1 and jump the channels you can get it to break up pretty good but to be honest, a tubescreamer is a pretty big part of the srv sound. You can get a bit of a Hendrix style sound if you really crank it...the circuit isn’t all that different from a jtm. But to be honest, if you’re going straight in and nothing else, there might be better options, like a jtm that has a little more bite. This thing is really clean which is actually why I like it. Makes for a good “canvas” for the various sounds I need for my work.
Grayson Webber My opinion (totally, TOTALLY with a grain of salt) is that the bassman is ultimately better for those types of sounds. Yeah, a tube screamer helps, yeah it might take some drive pedals that the Marshall wouldn’t need. But this circuit/sound, out of the box, is gonna be closer to what those guys used. Although I’m sure you know, Jimi’s Marshall was based on this amp and Stevie’s core tone was that of a fender as well. The one circumstance in which you might wanna go Marshall is if you’re lookin to drive it straight in with no pedals (although neither Jimi nor SRV did that anyway). I dunno man...I’m probably a bad guy to be asking about this haha. I’m a big fan of the bassman.
brianpaul padua 5:52 has all the settings I like. I usually kill the presence and most of the bass then use the jumped channels to balance out my high and low end. It’s kind of a convoluted way to get the eq balance you like but it’s actually pretty easy and allows you to tune yourself to the room pretty quickly.
brianpaul padua The euphoria is a SICK pedal, man. One thing that might work for you is to really dial the tone back on the pedals if you haven’t already. My ts mini is usually around 9 o’clock (low drive, high volume) and I usually keep my prince/king of tone even lower than that. One thing I’ve always found with drive pedals is that no matter how nice they are, they get harsh really quickly if the tone knob is even the tiniest bit too high.

Plexi before the plexi
Stock tubes?
I assume you have a bucker in the bridge? This sounds incredible
Thanks : )
I do. I have a Seymour JB Jr in the bridge.
Nice Stevie Riff.. Liked it with Lynard after though lol..jk🤙
Ur selling it? How much?
Hey! I am looking at new amps to get a Hendrix-y SRV tone and I'm torn between this one and the Marshall Dsl40cr. Any advice?
Grayson Webber
My opinion (totally, TOTALLY with a grain of salt) is that the bassman is ultimately better for those types of sounds.
68 custom twin reverb can do it
whats eq setting and vol level?
brianpaul padua
5:52 has all the settings I like. I usually kill the presence and most of the bass then use the jumped channels to balance out my high and low end.
It’s kind of a convoluted way to get the eq balance you like but it’s actually pretty easy and allows you to tune yourself to the room pretty quickly.
@@manifestgtr cant get the drive sound.. got the wampler euphoria stack with ts mini. yours sound too good
brianpaul padua
The euphoria is a SICK pedal, man.
@@manifestgtr
yeah jost got the right setting for wampler sounds great. thanks for great advice.. planning to stack with ts9

These videos are worthless without knowing the amp settings.
…which is why I put the amp settings on the screen…
