- This movie is in no way official, but I'm insanely proud to have been a part of the world of THIEF, to have worked with so many amazing creators and friends - and to have met so many of incredible fans that keep it going. Now that half of Arkane Studios are already gone... It seems the indies are coming to the rescue: Fallen Aces, Gloomwood, Shadows Of Doubt. And Wolfeye Studios naturally as well, where former Arkane wizards have been gathering for quite a while.
You know, I think it's a pity that Bethesda didn't aquire the rights for an Indiana Jones game earlier. For once, decent commercial appeal for once. Secondly, perfect fit for Arkane. Think Thief's grave robbery missions paired with their vague in-universe maps -- as if taken straight out of the grail diary in "The Last Crusade".
Ah well. 🙂You've all left quite a legacy there!

Of all the games over the years, most of them was not verry interesting for me. But this one: I loved it and i do today. Not "be fast and shoot dead all you can" - but "be intelligent, quiet and hidden, look & listen, think, be wise in use of violence" and all this stuff. Simply amazing Game concept with great athmosphere and storytelling.
Im suffering from lack of new thief games. And there comes this great little movie 😍 you hurt me, gentleman 🤪 big thanks for this, its inredible well done and brings a strong remembering of the feelings i experienced back in the days. And also little dreaming about what possibly could come in the future.
Absolutely amazing! If I didn't know better, I'd say that looked like a teaser for a new Thief game in 2024! There's a really convincing story pitch here to return to the basics from The Dark Project. It's a total winner, I really think it would sell like crazy. I was only fourteen years old when I bought Thief from Best Buy for $40. I still have the original box and the price tag. Thank you guys for sharing your work with all of us. Thief inspired me to start my career in digital graphics, I'm a texture artist at a small studio now.

This was a real work of art, and captured everything that was beautiful and legitimately creative about The Dark Project. Well done, this was a legitimate comfort and delight to see made real.

You know what would be a great followup to this? A live-action recreation of the quarreling guards from Life of the Party. No budget required; just do it as a shitpost.

Wonderful!❤. Thief I and II are in my top five of all time. I love the noise implementation as well as music score. I am visually impaired and the reliance on sound and stealth make them playable even for me (with brightness turned up as well as turning lights on in game when available). I just beat Thief Gold again-on Expert difficulty🎉.

The Thief games "universe" is so interesting it could easily have inspired more short-stories (perhaps the fan community will make the story grow?) ...would love to see just more media content around the whole very intriguing futuristic and mystical metal age etc.

The original "Thief" games stole my heart all those years ago, and this slice of perfection put the lock on it. I would give everything I own to play another "Thief" game from the same team.

I'm 20 and it's my favourite game of all times (; The world is captivating indeed. Masterful design (loved to find all kinds of imperfections in the levels). The story and lore is the greatest of all time too :p
Also, the only damn teleport in the game scared the shit out of me bruh loool
Thief lives again, a beautiful 3 minute short revives the city in a way no AAA Studio today seems to be able to.

The first two games are still my favorite games of all time.
To this day "Thief: Gold" is still my answer to anyone who asks what my favorite game of all time is. This short really captures the sound, look, and feel, well done!
I never thought I would see amazing work like this on Thief again from an LGS alumnus, very well done and there’s something surreal about hearing Terri voicing Viktoria again. Feels like no time has passed.

This was a wonderful thing for all us long-time Thief fans to see, and also to HEAR- I want to emphasize the sound design and of course, just hearing these characters speak again puts a huge smile on my face. Between this and Nightdive's System Shock remake, our ears are getting spoiled with Terri Brosius again. Props to everyone involved!

That was incredible. The guy playing Garrett really looks the part too, based on the darkened glimpses we get of his face in the games.
Also, nice touch at the end with the way the outlines of Garrett's body suddenly become fuzzy in the dark as he's walking away, but briefly become visible again in the lightning. That's in keeping with the way the games suggested, without ever saying outright, that there is something borderline preternatural about Garrett's hiding ability.

Oh my!!! I just found out about this and it has made my hunger for a Classic Style Thief Sequel go through the roof. Not on a new engine but built using the New Dark game engine which is continuously updated by mysterious unknown community developers!!!
Damn... There's potential in creating great live action series of Thief. Heavy use of shadows can hide budget.

For myself I’m a huge fan of Deadly Shadows’ design as well, but I’m with you on the 1st 2 for sure. T2 in particular is some of the tensest gameplay I’ve ever experienced. Infinitely replayable!

This series is a gleaming gem even after so many years. Dishonoured, Blades in The Dark, the Dark Mod, that... 2014 thing... all manage to capture a little bit of the magic but it is just not enough. Loved it.
Thief Gold demo was one of the first games I played on my brand new PC around 1999/2000. My mind was blown. I've been chasing that high ever since. Without a luck. Thief 2 became probably my most played game ever if counting the fan missions. It was the first game I ever modded by inserting my teacher's face onto an NPC so I could smack him with a blackjack. I tried some map making in Dromed, but never finished anything. Then I worked on The Dark Mod (Thief tribute game) for couple years, making textures, models, animations. That's how I learned 3d art which since became my job. I still hope for a worthy sequel, remake, spiritual successor, etc. Thief 2014 missed the mark. Dishonored was fantastic but not quite the same thing. Thank you for those wonderful atmospheric cutscenes and amazing games.
It's as if you never left! OG Thief fan here, played The Dark Project before 2000 and I was born in 92. It fills my heart with joy to know that you guys still think of us and enjoy this old culture as much as we do!

25 years ago, Thief allowed us a glimpse into a possible future of video gaming. Its stealth pioneering still reigns supreme. Its minimalist HUD, AI, physics and sublime in-universe maps pushed first person 3D further into the realms of "Virtual Reality" -- long before that was a mainstream thing of expensive hardware...
And what's since come off it? Games that CONSTANTLY remind you that you're just playing a damn game.

I really, really liked the little bit where Garrett's eye moves slightly when aiming the bow. 1. Because we know how important his eye will be (ouch) and 2. Because it evokes the 'animated drawing' of the originals where only a part of the image would move.

Thanks, DC! That's exactly what we were hoping to hear! This shot is by vfx wizard David Bryant, and it really set the standard for the vibe. When the LG team was doing the first cutscenes, we were really inspired by anime, which gets a lot of intensity out of very small moves like that.
This is like discovering a hidden lore to a game that you thought you'd knew everything about. This so impressive haven't seen this type of cutscenes in a long time ever since playing the original Thief games

I generally don't like cutscenes very much but I love the ones in the first two Thief games and this is as great as they are. I wish the people that made The Dark Project and Thief 2 would come back for one more Thief game because video games don't get better than that.

@@DThron I've said for a long time, since waaaaay before these shows have come out like "The Last of Us", "Halo", and the in production "Fallout "series...that most games would probably work better as a series rather than movies.
With the nature of side-quests and outside lore that doesn't get explored in games through audio logs and such. That kinda stuff is ripe for onscreen presentation.
Many open-world rpg games would be great for a seasonal series I think.
That said, more tightly focused single player games might be better suited to movies...kinda like The Uncharted/Resident Evil flicks. Despite their quality. Then again "the Last of Us" seemed to work really well as a series.
Thief is kinda in-between for me. You could base each episode on a mission that helps move the narrative forward or just do a movie capturing a few heists and things. I'm a big sucker for the prior though. I like episodic stuff that fills out a whole narrative eventually.
That said. Don't have to force arbitrary episode lengths like some shows have done in the past. I'm looking at the Cowboy Bebop Live action which managed to say so much less with triple the run time of each episode the original had...yeash.
Stay true to the source material -- trust it and I think you've mostly got a winner. Embellish when you can and when it makes sense, but not overtly.
But this is just my 25 cents...
@@LLAAPPSSEE yep, totally with you on this. Last of us, of course, blew me away . They weren’t just trying to make a replica of the game, but make something that really made use of what the media can do . everything they modified was to make things even more thematically relevant to the core story, so as long as it was, it still felt lean.
Thief is interesting because it’s a juxtaposition of very specific, realistic character and action set against a very vague nightmare version if the world. The City is a Lynchian abstract, but Garrett and his work are Michal Mann-ish in their details. (The opening shot of Mann’s movie “Thief” was, incidentally, a major visual touchstone in development). So having the room to not only set the mood, but to get into the nitty-gritty of stealing would fit a series layout best. Maybe a short one, British style, at 4 hours or so. ( as long as we get an HBO budget! :) )

This is so incredibly well done - an evolution of the original cutscenes blending action with animation seamlessly while keeping the original mystery and atmosphere intact. I was just dipping back into Thief nostalgia and my love for the Thief games (and Garrett, and Viktoria) and I see this, this is perfect, thank you SO SO much.

But the guy playing Garrett is a perfect Garrett! He's suitably hidden in the shadows of course, but there are enough glimpses of him to tell me that really fits the role.
