    Hey. I recently released a collection of keyboard patches for the Analog Keys/ Four. There's a lot of different stuff in there ranging from bass, solo, keys and some experimental stuff too. My aim has been to make them suitable for keyboard players, with very nice velocity response, and interesting joystick settings. And I also sampled most of the patches for all of you who don't have an Analog Keys. I'm going through the patches in this video, and there's a link to my Patreon site where you can support me and download the pack.

    We love your idea about using the mirror in your videos. Such a fabulous idea. We have done some OP1 filming in the park, and were challenged on how to show ourselves while playing. You are brilliant!

    Ok I think I need an analog keys now. I have always been impressed by the sound of my friends elektron gear but its just so beautiful.

    Dude! Some nice work here and I am going to be investigating electron stuff in the next year or two. Some nice soundtrack type sounds and also boards of Canada sounds too. Incidentally...RUclips auto captioning comes up with some crazy stuff on this vid....blood bomb anyone!?

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  9 лет назад +2

      Brian Rhodes LOL.. I always forget about auto captioning. Can I turn it off? I should leave it on.. it's hilarious. Thanks. I think Elektron has a nice sound for sure.

    So many fantastic, beautiful and fun sounds Cuckoo! I really liked Samus Piano, Masteroid Edge & Bastique! Whatever you assigned to the joystick's x and y axis has super cool effects. I don't have an analog keys, but I enjoy listening to this demo! Cheers

    Really like a lot of these patches. Your NES style patch is spot on! The way you got that distinct bassy thud underneath is perfect. Have you ever heard any music from the Neo Geo Pocket Color console? It uses the same sound chip as the Master System. It's hard to find a good sounding video on RUclips but in person it sounds great.

  • @vuuvovuuv

    you make playing look so easy, and in a style i really wish i had the ability to -- how much practice do you have??? lots of lessons or did you play along to mega man a lot or....?

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  9 лет назад +3

      vuuvovuuv Thank you!! Sort of the latter, ha ha. While I was growing up I tried playing the tunes that I heard in video games.. like all the time. I never took any piano lessons, but I went to music school and I know notation and stuff enough to read and write sheet music. I used to make mix tapes with game music, to listen to in my walkman :)

    Great job ! it's nice having your playing style explanation and demo dedicated to each preset, that's always something missing to presets: you don't know in which way they were designed to be played...

    Is it possible for the Analog Keys to take a sustain pedal somehow? I would think maybe via some kind of MIDI message? (Maybe you could route the sustain signal from another device? I don't know. Have you tried this?

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  9 лет назад +2

      Hey, yeah it's possible with some trickery. I tried it with the Softstep 2 by Keith McMillen. The Keys doesn't support the standard sustain pedal CC message, so you need to be a little inventive. Here's a video tutorial of doing this. It might give you some ideas :) ruclips.net/video/qZUrjfJEme4/видео.html

    Hei, isn't the 3 octave keyboard too much of a restriction for developing your style? Do you have additional midi master-keyboard for more elaborate sessions with this thing? Great sounds btw!

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  9 лет назад +4

      +Marek M One would have thought that.. But i've grown so used to playing small keyboard that 3 octaves IS part of my playing style. A full size keyboard is great... but I feel strangely at home in the 3 octave land.

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  9 лет назад

      I've done a few live streams. I love it! But I don't like the 45 sec latency on RUclips streaming. It makes it difficult to communicate through a live stream.

    I'm interested in buying your patches. I have never plugged my analog keys into a computer. Is there a good resource that could show me how? I'd also like to update it so that the sequencer can send midi notes. I only have a cheap old pc laptop at the moment.....

    Great stuff! Cuckoo what are your favorite chord progressions ? I sense a kind of similarity from one video to another but still cant catch the exact chords.

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  9 лет назад +4

      Mikhail Vasilevsky Thanks. I'm a sucker for anything in C-minor.. but this time at least I managed to move around in different keys! *lol* I haven't tried to analyze myself.. But when I sit down and make songs it's far too easy to slip into my own patterns. In an improv situation like this I don't take the time craft well thought out tunes.. I just have to make something on the fly - and I don't have the diverse piano skills to come out of the little chord zone that I'm in, he he. It's probably pretty basic chord progressions. You tell me :)

    is the analog keys the same as the analog four but just with keys ?
    Would the analog four with my midi keyboard controller be the same ?

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  8 лет назад +3

      It sounds almost identical. The filters on the Keys have been slightly tweaked in favour of bass response. But to be honest most users can't tell the difference. Some users even prefer the sound on the Four. I prefer the work flow on the Keys. Stuff like Poly mode, sound pool, multimap is easier to access and work with. And the joystick resolution is native rather than capped by MIDI. It'll work fine with an external keyboard, but it's not the tight integration feeling as with the Keys.

    • @rachelhilgert692
      @rachelhilgert692 8 лет назад +2

      +cuckoomusic thanks for the fast response. You are a total expert on Elektron gear. I hope you are getting your gear for free. If not they need a reality check. You are mastering this stuff and a very strong promoter for Elecktron . I have a few synths. I am debating this , the four, or a Prophet 6 module right now. All are great. I was just wondering if the keys is worth 400 dollars more just for the keys. I love the layout though. I'm sure all those controls can't fit on the analog four. Probably more controls on the keys I assume. Thanks for the great work.

    • @ANewVoid
      @ANewVoid 8 лет назад +1

      +cuckoomusic Just curious how often do you find yourself noticing a sound difference between the two? In my current hardware setup bass does seem to be somewhat a lacking factor--but I'm enticed by the A4's portability/price. Regardless, the A4/Keys sound is fantastic and you've done a wonderful job showcasing it! :)

    hi! So if I use this patches with an A4 mk2, how can I access to the mod wheel? Maybe using the EXP Inputs? Would like to know how to integrate those modulations to my A4

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  3 года назад +2

      The joystick on the AK has mod wheel up (CC1), breath control down (CC2), pitch bend to the sides. The easiest way to access these is with a separate MIDI controller. The EXP input is cool too, but then you need to change the patches to respond accordingly.

    cuckoo!!! hey man, please, how the heck do you make it polyphonic?? is analog keys different from a4 because it lets you play 2 and more keys at same time?? please dude, answer this one, i've been looking on forums and all over. only thing i could figure out on my a4 is when i go to global settings and to midi settings i can split keyboard in half and assign different tracks to both sides and play somewhat polyphony on it. thanks!

      cuckoomusic what is the keyboard action like on the AK?

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  9 лет назад +2

      Richard Stevens Keyboard Action? Like the quality of the Keyboard itself? It's pretty typical. Light and responsive. Low latency. Nothing wheighted or special about it, but certainly better than a lot of low quality midi controllers out there.
