Why not increase efficiency by just having machine cut out rectangles. No waste or secondary roll out. Texture improved by not rolling scraps again. Know traditional shape is round but surely people could get used to rectangles or squares. Improved efficiency and thus could lower cost for people. They would get used to shape in a hurry!
I suspect the stigma is heavy in the culture on not preparing the bread by hand. Moving away from the circular shape would be too far from the tradition and too soon. I expect kids that grow up with circular machine made rotis will be able to embrace square-shaped ones when they themselves are adults.
I agree, we grew up eating rotis that we triangle in shape.. my grand ma used to make them.... she used to fold the dough 3 times with each layer adding some oil and stuffing to it... I dont know where this rounf shape standard came from... I am a south indian and we do eat rotis but not as a staple food.
great contraption but no face mask, no head caps, no gloves. the finished product so low to the ground where floor debris could easily be the extra spice for the rotis.
Their aim for efficient roti making is appreciated. But the whole place looks very unclean and people wandering around the production line look unprofessional. People handling food with their bare hands, no head cap for prevent human hair contamination are simply shocking. Automation is all fine, but what's the point in having food manufacturing line without good quality control and management.
the packers last took a bath and washed their hands during "World War 1" and the taste of the hair of the guy feeding the dough and flour at the top.. makes these flat-breads even more tasty. not to mention the grime and grease and cockroach eggs, lizard eggs inside on the conveyor belts. #very #nutritious

Tejas Trivedi You can't compare the risk of becoming ill from home prepared food with industrial prepared food. There is no such thing as an Indian hygiene standard. Hygiene is important all over the world and also in India. You can't be careful enough to protect specially children, pregnant women and old people. Since there are a lot of children dying in India because of bad hygiene I find it irresponsable to take it so easy. 75% from all the people in the world getting diarrhea are in India! Just think for yourself how the people in India can make the risk lower! I think the international help organisations have to educate the people in India much more about hygiene to avoid that innocent children die any longer from diarrhea. I do realise that my opinion is based on my Dutch background but hygiene should be a normal habbit all over the world to protect innocent people! Hygiene can save lifes!
Tejas Trivedi in food and beverage industries the gloves used are not re-usable. They are made of plastic or recyclable materials. You can use it only once. It is the standard the company/hotel needs to maintain doesn't matter whether you belong to India or any other country.
What a strange, arrogant and disrespectful comment. Also no need to mention the nationality of the people. I live in the Netherlands and although it is widespread known that Dutch people are in general hygienic, there is a Dutch TV program what is showing very unhygienic situations in restaurants in the Netherlands. I can remember these kind of disgusting circumstances from an American tv program going about restaurants in the USA as well. The only thing is that in our countries we have much more strict rules and more control from the food authorities. But even then you are not sure that the food you eat is prepared on a hygienic way. And in this video there is no evidence at all that the workers didn't wash their hands before. Seems that you don't understand that poverty is also having a very negative effect on hygiene. The Indian people who are not living in a bad situation are just hygienic people. It really depends on someones life standard how hygienic somebody can be. I remember a research project in Pakistan. They gave mothers a simple piece of soap and told these mothers to let their children washing their hands with soap before eating and after using the toilet. And guess what, diarrhea was 53% less by children who were washing their hands with soap! We in the Netherlands do have a rhyme that we learn on a young age already " Na het plassen, handen wassen" Means " After urinating you have to wash your hands". Maybe it is for you also good to realise that it is not because of your own personal achievement you live in a good situation now, but by accident you are born in the usa. You are calling yourself a smart American. I can't judge about your intelligence but here in the Netherlands we do know that a lot of Americans cannot point the different countries of the world on a map, even don't know the names of capitals of for example big counties like China and there was once a very funny program about that on TV. Also they can speak mostly only one language what is their native language. Indian people in general are far more intelligent than American people. It is well known that a lot of Indians are high intelligent. India is often seen as an economic rising superpower while the economy in the USA is becoming sooooo bad.Recently there was a program on TV going about poor children in the USA they get food at school and even on fridays they get food for the whole weekend because the parents cannot provide them. Many Americans doesn't have a health insurance etcetera etcetera. I am sorry to tell you, but i conider you as one of the arrogant Americans. There is not that much in your country to be proud on apart from having a piece of soap to wash your hands with. I don't have any religion, but for you I hope that hinduism is true. Then in your next live you will be born in a very poor family in a thirth world country
