  • This week Michael comes close to finishing off the render removal inside the house and the results are AMAZING. It may sound crazy at this stage, but it already feels like this old Portuguese house is becoming a home.
Michael also gets creative moving some heavy furniture around!

I wish more people had the guts you have to renovate these old buildings in my country! They are beautiful but they just fall apart and no one cares. I have been following you and am so respectful of your work and the interest you take in all the old stuff that you keep finding... there is so much character in these buildings, and the end results when finished don't compare to a new build in any way. You are going to have a top notch home in a beautifully scenic spot! Well done!

I have very recently renewed my own large granit farm house in northern portugal where i now live. I used professional help though because i havent got the skills and wouldnt have had your kind of energy. But the house and land have come back to life and it is such a gratifying acheivement. I now live in a uniquely quirky house like no other, full of history and space, i love it!

I liked the idea of "lights off"; this showed very well the passage of time, with the time lapse its easy to lose perspective of how laborious a task it is. Looks good!

Judging by the amount of plaster you've had to remove already I'd bet on you twitching if you had to watch someone putting it on lol. 😂 You have done so much since you arrived, it must be rewarding seeing your place transforming.👍

Wow, great work! I hope you are doing daily stretches every night to compensate. That old chest is impressive. I think it might be an old "salgadeira" a box that used to be used to keep meat, usually pork, in between layers of salt. Or, it could be used to keep different types of grains and beans in burlap sacks away from rodents. My grandmother used to have a couple of those chests. When I was a kid, I used to love to dig up some meat and bacon out of the salt!!

Thank you so much 💛 we think they were used for grain as we found some in the bottom! Lovely old chests ☺️ hoping to use as a sideboard or something! Have a lovely weekend.

When lifting anything from 1 oz to 150 lb bend your knees and then lift. I learn the hard wsy as well 48 years ago was laid up for 3 days. Never again as I always bend my knees, even to pick up a pencil.

So still in Castelo Branco, but only just as looks like you about 3 miles from Coimbra county. If you have stream then you could say your in heaven, but 22 a lot of wells watermines and streams dried up and many like ran out of water so I had ferry by trailer from the house which has mains.. While you are making the house habital. Hope you got the garden sorted first as then you have the fruit shop on the doorstep instead of buying it.

A mini jack would make like work of that render removing. Let me guess you are in Castelo Branco, why most Brits choose that I don't know. cheap yes, but for a reason as the water supply there isn't adequate to produce the food you need year round and can reach 47c some years, that is why so many abandoned farms and so cheap. You would have been far better of a little further north, like Guarda, Visue or Villa Real where the rainfall is more reliable and the summer is less stressful. A little dearer but still very cheap in comparison with U..K. That's why I am here as no way could I afford land and house in U.K. without a massive loan while as here I got a massive house for cash. no cash left after making it livable, but who cares can live comfortable on a pension and a bit left over.

It's terrible to go with a wheelbarrow downstairs. Why don't you put some old wood, like planks ,in the direction of the mess and just drive over it?
