👋Hey everyone, it's my first time looking at the rivals from a Pokemon game! 🤞I hope the video is okay my editor was being a little dodgy this time round (I'm always paranoid o_0) 📝Question of the day, who is your favourite and least favourite rivals in Pokemon? Explain why if you want 💬Also we have a discord server! If that interests you then you can join here: discord.gg/2EgF96wgZS
Brilliant video dude! I love how unique your team ideas are I especially loved Breloom on Wally's team! You should watch some of SmithPlaysPokemon videos and offer some of your ideas towards his Emerald Legacy game, would be an amazing combination!
Gave a Like because I liked the video but then I took it back when I read "COLOUR Change"; how dare you spell COLOR like that >:( [Jk, these videos are always fun to sit through :3 ]
@@SeeGeeEss Thank you! Wally gives me Breloom vibes + anything to give the swampert players another pokemon that counters them! I didn't realise SmithPlaysPokemon was making an Emerald Legacy game, he goes all the way with improving the older games, for me I've mainly been focusing on the boss battles.
They honestly should have given both rivals more screentime and scenes to show their growth. Black and white show you can have 3 rivals in your friends and N develop through the story quite well not knowing who will be the one to challenge you next.
@@RoryTheFiend could have been cooler for green boi to get the third starter and many more battles overall. Black and white I just wish the rivals all had more diverse teams to make them different from one another to really give you pause on who to battle. Heck they could have theme teams as glasses boi can be the standard rival. Bianca a status player with putting you to sleep or something and N a special strong team that gets really strong for his champion run.
@@TheGodIvy because he is one. Starts journey with a weak Mon like you. Multiple fights across the franchise and ends up champion like blue to fight you. If he's not a rival then may and many rivals don't count either
@@ivanbluecoolnot to mention the fact, that he literally is one of the two heros, next to the player. So not just a rival gameplay wise, but also story wise.
What's funny is we basically know what a Hard Mode version of Wally and May's team would be. ORAS Wally's 4th rematch and beyond is easily the scariest team any rival in the series has used. If you swap out Talonflame for Charizard, Garchomp for Flygon, and revert his gen 4 evolutions to their previous forms he has an appropriate team for Emerald. While with May just take her post credits team from ORAS, swap out the Macargo she has if you chose Torchic for a Ninetales, give her the Claydol or Exploud she uses in the Battle Maison and she's good to go.
I actually think instead of Zangoose, it'd be a nice touch for Wally to have a Linoone on his final team, seeing as it is the first Pokemon he ever used in battle. With Belly Drum, Return, Shadow Ball and Hidden Power FIghting it could be a terrifying sweeper, especially if you have it hold a Salac Berry lol
I could totally see that working as well! I absolutely love linoone, just look at my banner, Belly drum linoone always will have a place in my heart, easy to underestimate but it just needs 1 turn to become a killing machine.
Same I had 1 with thief always picked up stuff. That thing was the reason why I always had nuggets an rare candies in my bag and those max revives came in clutch!
I went with suggesting the Exploud line for Wally's normal type, so it could grow with a different evo each fight. But then, that's partially because I agreed with restricting it to the one Hidden Power being used for giving Magneton a Grass move. And it kinda mirrors Wally's journey.
I'd give Wally's final fight Gorebyss instead of Huntail, his whole team in the base game has a gentle, feminine and pretty / elegant vibe going on so I think it would fit better overall with the rest of his team. For this same reason, I'd also swap Zangoose and Absol between him and May.
I think that's a fun team idea, I'm more surprised this is the 3rd comment calling Wally's team girliepop, which I have to agree with, he has that girliepop energy
Dude, that added Wally battle is so creative and amazing, it fits perfectly into the game. People need to talk to smithplayspokemon about adding that to the emerald legacy rom hack that he’s making.
Thank you! I didn't even realise smithplayspokemon was working on emerald legacy now, I'm sure he's come up with a lot of great ideas on fixing the game
From what I've seen of his streams, SmithPlays is extremely conservative with changes made to the base game. He tweaks the learn sets, the wild encounters, and the trainers' team composition. The new Wally encounter is really cool, but feels like the type of change that would have him go "I don't have time to explain this project to you, ask someone in the chat what this hack is about, and think about that before you write more suggestions"
Would love to see the Kalos rivals get a similar treatment. Like the gym leaders, I think XY's low difficulty and weird story decisions made them less memorable than they could've been.
For me I think making wally a serviceable trainer before victory road ruins his character ark- if it were me, I would keep the first team the same, then include the second team at Petalburg only he would have a Shroomish, Swablu and Kirlia. This would show him progressing as a trainer from Mauville, but he’s still a pushover. He could comment after the fight that he tried so hard to get stronger but he’s still weak, then Norman could chime in and say he’s wrong, and that he’s clearly come very far and one day could be a powerful trainer. Then the final team is the same as this video :) I think this would make him more interesting to fight while keeping (maybe improving) his character ark
One small thing id do is actually make the tag battle in the space center be with wally showing how he is truly growing, the team could just be Gardevoir delcatty and altaria but it's all i want in life
Ooh yeah that's a fun idea, you could add a lot of character growth for him, it'd also bridge the gap nicely between gym 5 and victory road as well. Though if I did that I'm unsure if the person that makes the rom hacks based on my videos could implement that.
I get that May/Brendan are researchers, and thus aren't really trying to be that difficult, but Wally's express goal is to be the very best. He wants it more than anything. He should be a challenging opponent, and appear more than just twice to bookend the journey.
I love giving one a Seviper and the other a Zangoose, the rivals each having one of the most famous rival duo of mons is really cool! It makes me wish that Brendan/May and Wally ever interacted, I bet they'd be buds
Zangoose to me makes more sense on wally since he's actively trying to become a powerful trainer, and seviper on may makes more sense as it's a mixed attacker as may seems to be both working on the pokedex and at least for the time being working on the gym badges. But that's just me trying to sound smarter than I am lol The rivals would definitely be friends, it could be nice actually if later on in the game it became more of a rival triangle and wally spurred may to continue on her adventure instead of ending at lilycove.
In ORAS they missed the opportunity to make more battles against Wally with other pokemon like Magnemite, Roselia, Swablu and Skitty At least Brendan/May finally evolved the started until the final stage
Yeah I honestly have no clue how in original gen 3 they didn't think it was weird the rival gives up before you see it's fully evolved form, genuinely bugged me since I was a kid
I really like the idea of the field researcher may/brendan swapping out mons as it makes sense for them.If you ever do the kalos rivals and add more battles I think Trevor could do something similar using the rare encounters of places you’ve been to
Field researcher is such a cool title for them to have, yeah i also agree with Trevor he should have a similar vibe to may / Brendon The gen 6 rivals are also just underwhelming so tuning them up would be fun
@@RoryTheFiend yeah trevor during the story regularly has additional dialogue if you’ve seen rare encounter Pokémon (like the 5% ones such as gible and kankasghan) ,also agreed the kalos friends needed a lot more than what they got
Yeah that's fair, part of the reason why I changed tropius out tho us because may already has a grass type and a flying type on her teams, so I was trying to keep her team diverse.
I loved Wally’s post game team in ORAS it’s champion level. And Gallade as his Ace was way more fitting than Gardevoir. But in Emerald that’s not an option, as with most of his post game team. He had a Garchomp in ORAS so a fitting pseudo legendary not used by anyone before would be Tyranitar. Another fun dynamic of the meek Wally having a serious monster on his team. Plus no one significant used it in Johto where it debuted. Roserade isn’t an option and Rosalia is really weak so we need a strong grass or poison pokemon to replace Rosalia. I think Breloom would fit great and be a good fighting type now that Gallade isn’t on the team. Azumarill if good. Replace the Talonflame with his Altaria. For his final teammate we could keep his Magneton but I think he needs something stronger. I’m leaning towards Manetric. As his guard dog (and it probably could’ve worked as his Ace to begin with for the same reason it even has a mega in ORAS). Final Post Game Team RSE: Ace Gardevoir Azumarill Brelloom Tyranitar Altaria And Manetric All Pokémon that would be able to protect and care for him if his illness effects him badly.
Magneton is better than Manetric in Gen 3, it's special is much higher. In later gens Manetric gets access to flamethrower and Shadowball so it becomes better but Magneton is better in Gen 3
If only the anime had both Brendan & Wally appeared to be Ash's main rivals throughout the season. Swampert being the ace as Gallade appear earlier like Lucario & Weavile.
You truly cooked with this one. If only Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald had these team. Thank Arceus thatt Game Freak fixed them all in the remakes.
I think smaller channels i find like this have the best videos, because they find the best idea for a pkmn video. Not jusyt ,"speed runs and nuzlockes" (i love those too but i see it so much on poke channels) content like this reminds me of early day JWitzz
Thank you! I've got some more ideas still to work on that I think people will like I used to watch the JWittz all the time in the past I loved his content!
Good idea! In Gen 3, the rivals feel as though they're just kind of...there. You only fight Wally twice - before Wattson, and at the end of Victory Road.
Personally, I would have given the rival the Seedot or Shroomish line in place of the Lotad line on the Torchic and Mudkip teams so there aren't types being doubled up.
since may focuses so much on her pokedex and research (the most out of most rivals in the series) having her rotate through pokemon and having a new team every fight could be really cool! (her starter and maybe one more member would stay consistent though)
Yeah exactly my thoughts, I liked her having a consistent fire/water/grass core of 3, and a rotating team of 3. Keeps the battles with her feeling new interesting without being completely random feeling
I personally would have gone with Seedot Slugma Wingull for the core. Seedot because it doesn’t clash with the water of Loatd, and Slugma because Camerupt is the ace of Maxie.
I liked your attemps to fix their teams and the extra bits of battles, ya did an good job there I've also see some extra battles in two Romhacks with the rivals: In Blazing Emerald, there's an Wally fight in Jagged Pass, just you're about to enter Lavaridge, and another in Pacifidlog Town In Touhoumon Purple, there's an battle with Brendan/May (in this case, Renko/Maribel since they replace the Hoenn MCs) in Ever Grande, just you're about to enter the Victory Road there Also about the fire types in early game, we can assume they already webt and caught that before we arrived, since they've always been trying to complete the dex
@@RoryTheFiend It is a good one. Sure, it has some problems here and there, but I love it because it add a ton of features, some of them are: - Tons and fanmade evos and Hoennian regional forms (yes, they are very good and some mons are broken) - There's the Dexnav from ORAS - Improved AI and Improved teams for important characters - New starters (you can choose between them and the custom ones) - Physical/Special split *(of course, this is mandatory)* with a ton of new moves And so much more, I suggest ya give it a try. It isn't that hard, even with hard mode and you can experiment various mons there *(Speed Boost Swords Dance Kingler go brrrrrrrrr)*
@@carloseduardoribeiromiguel6565 That sounds awesome, I really love any pokemon game that adds in new fakemon into the mix, Also speed boost kingler? That sounds OP lol I may need to look into it and give it a go then, thank you!
Something about May's Kecleon/Seviper team is just so cool. Idk what, maybe it's the colors since her team is usually the boring red/blue/bright green/black
Yeah I could've probably added another battle as well but I didn't want to overdo it, so a simple extra battle for both rivals that give them more character growth seems good! I really love hoenn as well, emerald probably my second favourite pokemon game, and my first ever pokemon game was Ruby!
What happened to Sableye for May after Weather Institute? Also, she doesn’t have any Fly users for her team at that point with three Marshtomp team? RIP
If I create the rivals teams using all Hoenn pokedex will be something like this: For Wally's Team I'll give him Gardevoir, Absol, Milotic, Altaria, Vileplume and Ninetales. For May's Teams 1- Sceptile, Crobat, Flygon, Manectric, Huntail and Aggron. 2 - Blaziken, Kingdra, Cacturne, Glalie, Alakazam and Zangoose. 3 - Swampert, Exploud, Shiftry, Aggron, Salamence and Dodrio.
And yeah May and Wally needed an extra fight at least, they're just not seen enough in the story so I wanted to incorporate a fight that has some character growth relevancy
Thank you! and there may be one in a bit, someone in my discord server has been working on one, will have to see if they're able to figure it out as they're new to certain rom editing things like adding cutscenes and fights
I really like that you added extra fights in, but i think i'd go further. I do really like that may's/brendan's team size increases by 1 each time, so i want to include that 2 pokemon fight with the incomplete core. Though we can't really push the 3 pokemon encounter into dewford, so maybe an optional at petalburg? I'd also like to see wally at the battle fronteir, like barry. I love the idea that may/brendan does regional teams. I wonder if they could be a roaming daily encounter in the postgame? Different teams for each location, obviously.
A roaming may Brendan battle with different team members is such a cool idea! Kinda like those news reporters Gabby and ty It'd be easy to implement and add a lot of personality and replayability
May / Brendan final battle before the Elite Four and after the Elite Four. Blaziken, Swampert, Sceptile with Ninetales, Azumarill, Vileplume for May and Camerupt, Crawdaunt, Breloom for Brendan combination of Fire, Water or Grass depending on your starter. Raichu for May and Manectric for Brendan, Altaria for May, Swellow for Brendan and Exploud for May and Slaking for Brendan. In both originals and remakes.
Wally is the only true rival to me in Gen 3, because he is a better balance of what we expect from a rival and one of still a different character. The problem I had with the rival protagonist like many, is just their lack of competitiveness in their character and drive, even if they werent entirely driven by beating you. It would have been at least something, if they were motivated to be ahead of you, if not to simply show off their Pokedex the same way Gary/Blue does. Wally though, does have a drive to make him feel like a growing parallel to you that you have to keep up with, because he is driven by his need to prove himself, and thus challenging you in different phases of the game, and with a stronger and stronger team, to us the player, it makes him a good rival because it preserves the dynamic of you having an NPC parallel to your gains, to challenge. May and Brendan, just don't carry that the way they should have. Mostly due to their attitude and them being an easy and underleveled team for most of it. Rivals should always be the second strongest character in the world next to you, that isn't a Gym Leader, Evil Team Leader or elite 4, and act like they want to be, in some way or another in character.
Every team looks fine tho one thing buzzes my brain it's because hidden power can't really be modified for the ai and it's either fighting or dark because atm you can't manually change the ivs, and for the last may battle in the sceptile team she can use Leaf Blade,Rock Slide or tomb, Dragon Claw and anything else at this point, hope this comment helped you out
Thank you yeah I'm aware of this limitation, it sucks so would need to probably use a work around if this was made into a rom hack. Thank you for your comment!
@@RoryTheFiend maybe do something like adding moves which isn't hard and add hidden Power of all types and you decide the Power, there are planty of ways to get around it
Haven’t finished this vid (just got past the additional Wally spar after Norman) but if there’s not a May & Wally Multi-Battle going on at Mt. Pyre, I’m gonna weep for the missed opportunity. There’s an old piece of Jirachi promo art for Ruby & Sapphire that depicts May with Torchic and Pikachu as well as Wally with Kirlia, Swablu, and Tropius while surrounded by wild Chimecho. This thought experiment is just begging to reference that off-screen event with something dramatic. EDIT: I also just remembered another piece of promo art where Brendan and May (rocking Plusle, Minun, and seemingly a Magnemite each) are biking for their lives being chased by Rayquaza. Perfect spot for a post-game match with May if you ask me. She can gatekeep Rayquaze right before the summit same way she did the Lilycove Department Store. EDIT 2: Aww man.
My final team for May/Brendon would change depending on your Rivals gender respectively: Starter Beautifly/Dustox Exploud on either team (thought about Plusle/Minun here but they are better together then separated due to the abilities) Depending on Starter choice, rotate between: {Roselia/Breloom, Camerupt/Torkoal, Gorebyss/Huntail} And finally, the rival would have the Latias/Latios. Maybe opening up a side quest to receive the other Lati@s for yourself. Wally would have: Gardevoir Ludicolo (the dual grass/water typing makes me not want this on May/Brendon but would work well on Wally) Altaria Magneton (dont like this since not gen 3, but better than minun/Plusle and not a gym leaders ace but Manectric could fit here too possibly) Zangoose (hate getting rid of Delcatty, but this just feels so fitting for Wally) Absol I dont love Camerupt/Torkoal for May Brendon since those are the aces of Maxie and Flannery but i wanted to keep all gen 3 mons, which are very limited here.
Having the teams change based on may / Brendan is cool and would add some nice replayability I'm an exploud fan so I'm all for the rival using one and giving the rival the other lati twin is a fun idea! For Wally's team giving him the ludicolo is interesting but I can see it helping him a lot And yeah zangoose and absol feel like a great fit for him Thanks for the comment, I like your rival team ideas!
The rivals of gen 3 have been giving me such a headache with trying to edit them. I almost gave up entirely, because why do the rivals drop off halfway through??? Ugh.
Wally just is hidden from gym 3 to victory road, and May giving up before she fully evolves her starter is ridiculous. I don't understand it because it really does feel quite simple to improve them vastly, an extra cutscene encounter or two expanding on their character growths.
21:45 The plagues at the beginning of the gyms actually show Wally beating them all before the player gets to them, I believe, so it does not need to be spelled out explicitly (not that it cannot have the move regardless, of course).
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69honestly, I haven’t played any Gen 1 or 2 games - I started with Gen 3&4 cos of my siblings, and 5 was my first game, so I’m way more nostalgic for those games than the the earlier ones
Minor typo at 15:23: Grovyle’s Grass move slot reads “Sitrus Berry” instead of “Bullet Seed”. Loving this new topic, though. You’re able to create more of a connected narrative through the Rival team comp changes compared to the Gym Leader ones, which I appreciate.
great video! just one question: do you make the trainer card team (the same way it appears in bulbapedia) by photoshop or there is a site or app that make the card that way?
Speaking of berries the gen 7 berry farming mechanic in the pokepelago made me want to use berry strats more often. The salac berry is a personal favorite of mine.
I think having a battle with the rivals before or after the gyms would make sense. You encounter May at the 4th gym. Have her be like, "By the way..." "I see you beat the Lavaridge Gym! Congrats! I've been catching a lot of new Pokémon myself. Do you want to battle and see?" >Yes No "Great! Let me heal you up, first." *Heals* "Great! Let's go!" And maybe you can fight *with* Wally at the Space Center in the Multi-Battle Steven: "They're causing problems all over the city. I think the leader is at the Space Center. If you take them down, the others are likely to leave as well." "I have to go recover some fossils and stones they took. I don't know what they have planned, but I'm worried they will try to cause the volcano to erupt again. I trust you can handle things from here." So he leaves, and you have the Multibattle with Wally instead of Steven. That way, they have a little more relevance to the story.
Well older Pokémon in general is a bit harder imo but like it's still easy, and yeah many boss battles have some really stupid and weak teams. I'd say probably gen 5 Is the hardest in the series
I liked this video, it was a pretty good one to watch, with some interesting Pokémon choices for both rivals that I can actually get behind, but I think for the last May fight, regarding her Sceptile team, I would replace Solar Beam with Dragon Claw, as Sceptile does learn it by TM, to give it at least some neutral coverage coming from its higher special attack, and also I'd replace Iron Tail with Earthquake for some much better physical coverage.
@@RoryTheFiend Thank you for replying! I actually checked, and you're right. Dang, learnsets in gens 1-3 were kinda crappy for the vast majority of pokemon, eh? But regardless, I'd like to imagine that maybe it's possible for her to have multiple copies of the TMs you received beforehand, but then again it's probably just wishful thinking, ahaha. 😄
@@shovanrahman1111 No problem, I enjoy trying to reply to many peeps! Yeah early gen learnsets are really annoying, I think I brought it up a few times but the early gen grass types have it really rough, typically having just grass and normal type moves to work with... Technically she could have multiple copies of certain tms like the gamer corner or mart, but I didn't want to abuse that possibility.
Why give Wally a Rosellia in the first place if it's immediately replaced by Breloom? Could just have a Shroomish in his first encounter. Or don't and add Breloom way later but let it have Spore (legal learn level and level curve would relegate that to rematches only, but GameFreak cheats moves all the time, so wouldn't be unprecedented to see that on Victory Road). Though, I definitely lean more towards Wally keeping a fixed set of team members he focuses training with if May's gimmick is switching out a bunch of Pokemon because she's focusing on filling her Pokedex. Wally seems like a very straightforward fellow that would only catch Pokemon he's planning to keep by his side, so it'd be most ideal to exclude Pokemon that won't have long term viability from his earlier teams, or figure out a way to make them work for each encounter. For example, May could use Skitty/Delcatty early and switch them away if you're really in love with giving those some spotlight, while Wally could just not have a mono-normal type until using Zangoose on Victory Road. Maybe he could have a Clamperl earlier on in its place? ...Although, I personally feel like Huntail could be better featured with Team Aqua or replacing the pathetically out of its league Luvdisc in the 8th Gym (even if having a good Crunch user is pretty great for the final team you built). Instead, Wally could use Azurill/Marill(newly evolved from friendship to explain not being fully evolved yet)/Azumarill for his 1st/2nd/3rd fights respectively to show off the new baby Pokemon of Gen 3, with the bonus that its bulk can be put to surprisingly good use with several moveset configurations. Or even just a non-water-type line that can learn Surf? Exploud comes to mind... no, wait, maybe not until a Gen 4+. Too bad, having him start off catching a Whismur woulda been kinda fun/funny. Still, Whismer/Loudred/Exploud may be a good alternative to Skitty/Delcatty/Zangoose. Yeah, okay, so I think I have my version of the 3 Wally fights, with the locations as shown in the video. ----- 1st Wally Encounter: Level 17 Azurill, Slam, Bubble, Tail Whip, Charm, no item. Level 18 Shroomish, Leech Seed, Stun Spore, Tackle, Mega Drain, no item. Level 18 Whismur, Pound, Astonish, Uproar, Howl, no item. Level 19 Ralts, Confusion, Growl, Double Team, Teleport, no item. No TMs or strategic move choices yet, he's just done some catching and level grinding. Even in context of a "Hard Mode" would be the same as "Normal Mode" difficulty for this fight. Azurill is in front solely because it's lowest level, but obviously would be a bad idea for Wattson if he was to get its friendship high enough while challenging the Gym. ----- 2nd Wally Encounter: Level 26(Normal)/28(Hard) Swablu, Fury Attack(Normal)/Secret Power(Hard), Peck, Astonish(Normal)/Steel Wing(Hard), Sing(Normal)/Mist(Hard), no item(Normal)/Sitrus Berry(Hard). Level 25(Normal)/27(Hard) Breloom, Leech Seed, Mach Punch, Headbutt, Mega Drain, no item(Normal)/Sitrus Berry(Hard). Level 25(Normal)/27(Hard) Magnemite, Spark, SonicBoom(Normal)/Hidden Power Grass(Hard, can buy in Slateport by then), Thunder Wave, Metal Sound, no item(Normal)/Sitrus Berry(Hard). Level 26(Normal)/28(Hard) Marill, Slam(Normal)/Double-Edge(Hard), BubbleBeam, Rollout(Normal)/Dig(Hard), Charm, no item(Normal)/Sitrus Berry(Hard). Level 26(Normal)/27(Hard) Loudred, Stomp(Normal)/Strength(Hard), Astonish, Supersonic(Normal)/Flamethrower(Hard), Howl, no item(Normal)/Sitrus Berry(Hard). Level 28(Normal)/29(Hard), Kirlia, Psychic, Growl(Normal)/Shock Wave(Hard), Double Team(Normal)/Thief(Hard), Calm Mind, Bright Powder(Normal)/no item(Hard). Decided it'd be okay to let Wally have a full team, but with nearly all of them not fully evolved so they would have further to grow for the next encounter. Besides the obvious upgrades, party order is especially effective for countering STAB kills on Set Mode. Loudred in particular is built to be Kirlia's bodyguard, countering Kirlia's weaknesses and baiting out a Fighting type to knock it out for Kirlia to hit. Normal Mode Kirlia/Gardevoir leans into the evasion hacks angle (but hard walled by Dark types) while making their Hard Mode follow more of a fair competitive set theming. Magnemite/Magneton gets Metal Sound to rep its Steel typing and to set up potential kills for other Special attacks on the team. And Gardevoir with Psychic, Calm Mind, and a coverage move on an enemy team is too much overkill for that point in the game, Rom Hack Difficulty (tm), so the bigger team of mid-powered Pokemon is more fitting. ----- 3rd Wally Encounter: Level 45(Normal)/47(Hard) Breloom, Leech Seed, Sky Uppercut, Counter(Normal)/Sludge Bomb(Hard), Giga Drain, no item(Normal)/Poison Barb(Hard). Level 45(Normal)/48(Hard) Azumarill, Toxic, Surf(Normal)/Dive(Hard), Dig, Ice Beam, no item(Normal)/Leftovers(Hard). Level 44(Normal)/47(Hard) Magneton, Thunderbolt, Tri Attack(Normal)/Hidden Power Grass(Hard), Thunder Wave, Metal Sound, no item(Normal)/Miracle Seed(Hard). Level 45(Normal)/47(Hard) Altaria, Dragon Breath(Normal)/Dragon Claw(Hard), Aerial Ace(Normal)/Fly(Hard), Mist/Iron Tail(Hard), Dragon Dance, no item(Normal)/Focus Band(Hard). Level 44(Normal)/47(Hard) Exploud, Hyper Voice(Normal)/Return(Hard), Shadow Ball, Flamethrower, Earthquake, no item(Normal)/Shell Bell(Hard). Level 46(Normal)/49(Hard), Gardevoir, Psychic, Future Sight(Normal)/Thunderbolt(Hard), Double Team(Normal)/Thief(Hard), Calm Mind, Bright Powder(Normal)/no item(Hard). Okay, this was originally just going to be a short comment, but then I got on a roll with the concept of making my own version of the Wally encounters and have been tweaking these movesets here and there for days now. I kept a fair amount of what you did for your move choices, but tried to hone in on some move consistency between encounters over pure strongest choice for each Pokemon individually (and mostly different items). Prime example is having Hard Mode Altaria upgrade Steel Wing to Iron Tail to have a more direct line of progression, even though Steel Wing's better accuracy makes this a side grade at best and there's better end-game options (though, yeah, also because Earthquake on Exploud is scary), and Mist being a fairly rare move worth being featured. And, yeah, Azumaril's gimmick build is held back a lot in Gen 3, but it felt like a natural advancement of Hard Mode Maril using Dig for coverage. Also decided to cash in on the idea of GameFreak cheating moves that make sense, and gave myself a pass for Normal Mode Exploud getting Hyper Voice. Also also figured Breloom is too frail to be doing both Bulk Up and Leech Seed, so picked the more fun one just to let it not get entirely shut down by Ghosts in the second fight and carried that over to the third. Also also also felt like excluding sleep strats for Hard Mode teams. Also also also also, Wally definitely visited Shoal Cave in my Hard Mode. Anyway, hope at least someone ends up reading this after I derailed so much of my free time unexpectedly.
44:40 Yes! Love this idea! Personally, I think it would be a nice touch to have a challenge delivered by mail. Perhaps in Devon Co. or Pacifidlog with a little nudge at the player about the Regis or reading braille.
Oh that's a pretty nice touch to be honest, I'm all for that. I really believe little things like that can go a long way in how positively we view characters in the Pokémon world
For May's Super Boss/Post Game Boss Sceptile team, I have one change. Sceptile's moveset. I would change it to: Leaf Blade Swords Dance Brick Break Iron Tail/Dragon Claw A mixed glass canon sweeper/cleaner. Swords Dance to set up, and proceed to hit REALLY FUCKING HARD.
Thank you and that's a good shout! I'll be completely honest chimecho just never entered my mind lol, but I think it'd be a decent team member that shows she is exploring everywhere to find pokemon
Could easily happen I suppose, maybe all the played testers never picked torchic to notice it lol Or the play testers just assumed it was intentional maybe
Your rivals arent as important as other games in Emerald because there are many of them, not only May and Wally but also Steven. You, the main character, are an individualistic and competitive individual who only wants to fight and beat opponents. May/Brendon rival on the other hand actually cares for you and from her/his perspective you are a friend not rival, she/he is always there to help you, gifting you items and infos. Wally is an underdog from the start, its fair that the first fight is an embarrasing showing but manages to create a team that can actually rivals your at the end. Maybe there should've been one more fight but I think is better this way, since when he jumps you at the victory road is an unexpected surprise indeed.
I agree with your comments about the rivals. Do you think I made the May rival too strong in your view? Keeping in mind this would be for a hypothetical "hard mode" and designed to be a bit stronger than usual And yeah I have no clue why they made wally completely disappear until Victory Road!
@@RoryTheFiend I feel maybe you made May a bit too strong in certain parts, specially because I never felt she was too weak in the early fights, despite the odd movesets, in the last two fight however she definetly isnt much of a challenge. But again is mostly because of my perspective of the roles of said characters. The player is on another league compared to them, his worthy rivals are Steven and Wallace, and he is destined to fight in the battle frontier. May and Wally are more like his childhood friends. But for an hard challenge is totally fair game. I also liked some changes like giving fly and Surf to the Pelliper. She gift you fly hm right after the fight, would've been a nice touch having a taste of it before earning it. And also, despite what I said about May and Wally not supposed to being in the player's league it still always never felt right to me that May does not fully evolve is own damn starter, and the las fight being optional is also criminal. And she definetly deserve to be challengeable with pokenav after elite4. One more thing: I think maybe her last fight could be postponed from Mauville to Pacificlod Town or right before entering the Victory Road? So that she could have a nice fully evolved team. Also if I remember correctly if you call her after you beat Tate and Liza she say that she is in Pacificlog Town and saw a massive pokemon flying. So even if she says that her Pokédex is at a good point she isn't really going back home, she is taking the sea route to go back home after. With all the water pokemons existing in Hoenn she still has a lot to do, so there could be one more meeting point with her more late in the game and still before the post game. She is still kinda the deuteragonist of the player's story and she was a bit done dirty from this stand point, should've had a bit more space. Wally the same, at least one more fight to see his growth, he went from a lvl16 ralts to a fully evolved team ready for the elite4 😂.
I think Wally should’ve had Gengar over Roserade in the remakes because not only is it a stronger option, but story-wise, it fits because since he’s shy most of the time, he’d be scared of ghost types like crazy so giving him one would show he isn’t shy anymore
If I create the rivals teams using only Hoenn pokemon will be something like this: For Wally's Team I'll give him Gardevoir, Absol, Milotic, Altaria, Roselia and Delcatty. For May's Teams 1- Sceptile, Manectric, Swellow, Seviper, Flygon and Huntail. 2 - Blaziken, Breloom, Zangoose, Gorebyss, Glalie and Banette. 3 - Swampert, Exploud, Shiftry, Aggron, Dusclops and Grumpig.
Thank you! Yeah I'll definitely consider archie and maxie, I always found it weird they use super potions when you're fighting their end game teams, and just in general they have some weird movesets.
If I recall correctly, the Torkoal in Rustboro is actually a bug/error, and was supposed to be a Slugma all along. It damn sure gave me a ton of trouble as a kid though 😂
Yeah I've had another comment saying the same thing, how did it not get detected I don't know? Maybe the QA testers assumed it was an intentional choice?
@@TheRegionalVariantMaster Well yeah I agree the gen 6 rivals are really underwhelming, gen 6 just had the exp balance way off and it only gets worse later on in the game you are
Rory, I am curious how you made the custom moveset cards for the Pokemon like at 29:52, did you just make them through editing, or is there some software that does this? Thanks!
Hey, well condor I make them just through editing, specifically I use paint . net, a good bit of free software I use to make thumbnails and edit graphics for my videos. It is tedius to make those custom moveset cards, but isn't particularly difficulty as it's just a lot of cut and pasting, rewriting text.
I wouldn’t give the rival 2’s Pokemon Oran berries since that isn’t consistent with gym battles, you also don’t get a sitrus berry at this stage in the game so I think I’d only give the starter an Oran and that’s it
If using the logic of “similar resources to the player,” then the rival’s starter shouldn’t have a Sitrus Berry for the Route 110 fight, since the first one you get comes after you’re able to Surf.
You know what that's fair, an oversight on my end then (or hear me out May got the thief tm and fought brawly afterwords to swipe makuhita's sitrus berry... yeah okay that's too much of a stretch)
@@RoryTheFiend Funny how you mentioned Thief, since I personally would’ve recommended it on Sableye to steal the player’s items once its Oran Berry is used up.
@@skeetermania3202 that's a good idea! would give sableye nice dark stab as well, I do think the ai in general should try to do some item removal strategies against the player
I always felt Gen 3's rivals were probably the weakest in the franchise from multiple angles, so it's really cool seeing them improved! I especially like the extra battle additions. Wally's second and May's epilogue could have easily be slotted in the game in another timeline. I do agree with some of the other comments in that I wish Wally's team kept the feminine vibes, but for what you were going for it worked phenomenially so I can't really complain. I think the only other rivals that really need this kind of work are X/Y's, but that's a lot of 'em and a lot of nothing to work with. Regardless, great work!
Hey thank you! Well I can see why people wanted me to keep Wally's girly vibes, I've had 4 seperate comments mention he has a girlypop team. I agree the X/Y rivals are really weak, If I make a video on them I'd need to figure out how to tackle it as I'm pretty sure there's many more battles in those games with the rivals then in emerald.
Great video as always, Rory! New mic sounds 🔥 Love the new rival battles and the growth you gave to them 😊 Will this be being made into a rom hack by any chance? The hacks from your previous videos have become my go to way to play those games, and I'd love to play this version! Once again, great stuff and looking forward to what you come up with next!
Hey thank you so much! I'm glad you think my mic is good! And yeah I hope this can be turned into a romhack, basically there's a member of the community called Xander who enjoys trying to make these for me, the requirements for this rom hack will be a bit more difficult as we will need to add in cutscenes and new battles. So Xander is going to try figuring it out, he's still getting grips to rom editing Also I still plan to "fix Hoenns Gym Leaders & Elite 4" so if Xander figures out all the rival stuff, then you may want to hold off until I make my other videos for hoenn.
@ 32:01 Never avoided fighting the rival here. Never understood how it was optional. Maybe you can just go straight to the next gym and she despawns or something?
Yeah lol I'm very good at making the occasional silly mistake, even though I watched the video the whole way through to catch such mistakes before I uploaded
beacuse gardevipor always been my fav pokemon wall-e has soft spot in heart and i will forgive what remakes did to him by giving him the warcrime know gallade
On the treecko team why not replace pound with bullet seed? Lotad you gave is using it, May could use a power move at that point. Pound does nothing quick attack can't do better
👋Hey everyone, it's my first time looking at the rivals from a Pokemon game!
🤞I hope the video is okay my editor was being a little dodgy this time round (I'm always paranoid o_0)

They honestly should have given both rivals more screentime and scenes to show their growth. Black and white show you can have 3 rivals in your friends and N develop through the story quite well not knowing who will be the one to challenge you next.
Agreed, I am a big fan of the gen 5 rivals, N included, for gen 3 I mean I like the rivals we just don't see them enough.
@@ivanbluecool N isnt a rival though, why do people consider him one?
@@TheGodIvy because he is one. Starts journey with a weak Mon like you. Multiple fights across the franchise and ends up champion like blue to fight you.
If he's not a rival then may and many rivals don't count either
@@ivanbluecoolnot to mention the fact, that he literally is one of the two heros, next to the player. So not just a rival gameplay wise, but also story wise.
What's even weirder is that only May has a Torkoal in the Rustboro City battle; Brendan has the Slugma you'd expect.
Yeah something weird was going on in game freak hq that day lol, how'd they even manage to make that mistake
@@RoryTheFiendapparently it was a dev error having Torkoal and it was meant to be a Slugma
@@naveedahmedny Is there a source for this?
@@hessiankyojin no, not at all, but c'mon, ain't no way that that was a conscious choice
Same for May's Grovyle team on Route 119 having Lombre; Brendan has a Pelipper instead.
15:14 Grovyle knows the Grass move Sitrus Berry
Yeah I don't even know how that one slipped past me lol
I was gonna say that lol
Swablu doesn't have an e at the end tho
@@RoryTheFiend Also, Wally's Gardevoir should have Thunderbolt in the final rival fight
@@RoryTheFiend Glad to see some Linoone love, It's been one of my favorite Hoenn mons for a long time
Same I had 1 with thief always picked up stuff.
Ngl I would have loved for you to give Wally stuff like Azumarill, ninetails, Gorebyss, etc. so that he could have kept a girlypop team
I think that's a fun team idea, I'm more surprised this is the 3rd comment calling Wally's team girliepop, which I have to agree with, he has that girliepop energy
I think he has a love for the beautiful Pokémon because of his own sickness, which is kinda how I feel too 😭
PUHLEASE GIVE KALOS' RIVALS THIS TREATEMENT, Gen VI Rivals are even worse than Hoenn's in an already way too easy game-
Dude, that added Wally battle is so creative and amazing, it fits perfectly into the game. People need to talk to smithplayspokemon about adding that to the emerald legacy rom hack that he’s making.
Thank you!
I didn't even realise smithplayspokemon was working on emerald legacy now, I'm sure he's come up with a lot of great ideas on fixing the game
@@RoryTheFiendwhere can I watch his stuff about it
The RUclipsr SmithPlays Pokémon, on his channel
From what I've seen of his streams, SmithPlays is extremely conservative with changes made to the base game. He tweaks the learn sets, the wild encounters, and the trainers' team composition. The new Wally encounter is really cool, but feels like the type of change that would have him go "I don't have time to explain this project to you, ask someone in the chat what this hack is about, and think about that before you write more suggestions"
Would love to see the Kalos rivals get a similar treatment. Like the gym leaders, I think XY's low difficulty and weird story decisions made them less memorable than they could've been.
For sure the kalos rivals just suck, I'd need to see how many battles with them there is as it might end up being too long a video for my liking
Then the final team is the same as this video :)
I think this would make him more interesting to fight while keeping (maybe improving) his character ark
But that's just me trying to sound smarter than I am lol
The rivals would definitely be friends, it could be nice actually if later on in the game it became more of a rival triangle and wally spurred may to continue on her adventure instead of ending at lilycove.
18:14 you should consider adding a Voltorb with self-destruct just to give Skitty the chance to blow up from assist
LOL that's really funny, I shall keep that in mind
That's brilliant.
In ORAS they missed the opportunity to make more battles against Wally with other pokemon like Magnemite, Roselia, Swablu and Skitty
At least Brendan/May finally evolved the started until the final stage
Yeah I honestly have no clue how in original gen 3 they didn't think it was weird the rival gives up before you see it's fully evolved form, genuinely bugged me since I was a kid
That Torkoal at the start is so out of place, 100% a mistake by the devs 😂
I really like the idea of the field researcher may/brendan swapping out mons as it makes sense for them.If you ever do the kalos rivals and add more battles I think Trevor could do something similar using the rare encounters of places you’ve been to
Field researcher is such a cool title for them to have, yeah i also agree with Trevor he should have a similar vibe to may / Brendon
The gen 6 rivals are also just underwhelming so tuning them up would be fun
@@RoryTheFiend yeah trevor during the story regularly has additional dialogue if you’ve seen rare encounter Pokémon (like the 5% ones such as gible and kankasghan) ,also agreed the kalos friends needed a lot more than what they got
21:32 Shock Wave and the story surrounding it is such a nice edition. Another banger from Rory
15:13 also there's a lil oopsie daisy in the graphic here, it shows Sitrus Berry where it should show Bullet Seed
There's always a mistake or two that slips through, I review every video but I end up being on auto pilot I skip over obvious mistakes
Incorporating movesets into a characters growth, and hinting at what they've experienced in their journey just makes sense to me.
33:00 my theory about tropius is that since it was a rare encounter in one area, they gave it to may so people could use the dex to find it.
Yeah that's fair, part of the reason why I changed tropius out tho us because may already has a grass type and a flying type on her teams, so I was trying to keep her team diverse.
Emerald is the version of the doubles...I would have loved a double battle with May AND Wally at the same time
Yup that’s a great idea
This idea can't miss the final cut!!
Wally stole all of the girlypop pokemon from may
Gardevoir, Roselia, Delcatty, Altaria, he was born to slay
‘cause he’s gay 😅😉
@@TwinCastleBricks he's not gay, just delicate =(
or is he? :)
Final Post Game Team RSE:
Ace Gardevoir
Azumarill
Brelloom
Tyranitar
Altaria
And Manetric
All Pokémon that would be able to protect and care for him if his illness effects him badly.
Absolutely loved the team diversity and different members you implemented throughout the game
Thank you! Yeah may having good team diversity and mixing it up makes complete sense since she's working hard on the Pokédex
Thank you! I've got some more ideas still to work on that I think people will like
I used to watch the JWittz all the time in the past I loved his content!
Good idea! In Gen 3, the rivals feel as though they're just kind of...there. You only fight Wally twice - before Wattson, and at the end of Victory Road.
Thank you, and yeah Wally feel's very underutilised to me, its easy to just completely forget him until you see him again at victory road
Personally, I would have given the rival the Seedot or Shroomish line in place of the Lotad line on the Torchic and Mudkip teams so there aren't types being doubled up.
That's a good suggestion! Shiftry learns some cool moves as well she could use
15:21
Yes, Sitrus Berry. My favorite grass type attack! (no offense lol)
A genuine accident on my end lol (but all these comments now boosting me in the algorithm guess it's working out!)
since may focuses so much on her pokedex and research (the most out of most rivals in the series) having her rotate through pokemon and having a new team every fight could be really cool!
That's a good idea tbh, I never thought of it that way
I kind of liked that Wally took over as main rival. It was a surprise after blue and silver who hounded you throughout their respective games.
I liked your attemps to fix their teams and the extra bits of battles, ya did an good job there
I've also see some extra battles in two Romhacks with the rivals:
In Blazing Emerald, there's an Wally fight in Jagged Pass, just you're about to enter Lavaridge, and another in Pacifidlog Town
In Touhoumon Purple, there's an battle with Brendan/May (in this case, Renko/Maribel since they replace the Hoenn MCs) in Ever Grande, just you're about to enter the Victory Road there
Also about the fire types in early game, we can assume they already webt and caught that before we arrived, since they've always been trying to complete the dex
Thank you! I've never heard of blazing emerald, is it a good ROM hack?
@@RoryTheFiend It is a good one. Sure, it has some problems here and there, but I love it because it add a ton of features, some of them are:

Kinda like those news reporters Gabby and ty
It'd be easy to implement and add a lot of personality and replayability
So funny you mention may's weather institute battle being easy, that fight traumatized me as a child

I remember really struggling with Cynthia as a kid
May / Brendan final battle before the Elite Four and after the Elite Four. Blaziken, Swampert, Sceptile with Ninetales, Azumarill, Vileplume for May and Camerupt, Crawdaunt, Breloom for Brendan combination of Fire, Water or Grass depending on your starter. Raichu for May and Manectric for Brendan, Altaria for May, Swellow for Brendan and Exploud for May and Slaking for Brendan. In both originals and remakes.
Did you know? May is going for spore on her shroomish because she likes catching Pokémon
Isn't that like level 54, at that point may just use sleep powder it'll do good enough lol
I think you should give them a wailord like in the remake, but everything else is very nice!! Good job!
Wailord is a great pokemon, especially since it can get water spout, it can be dangerous in these games o_o
Thank you! Glad you liked everything else

EDIT:
I also just remembered another piece of promo art where Brendan and May (rocking Plusle, Minun, and seemingly a Magnemite each) are biking for their lives being chased by Rayquaza. Perfect spot for a post-game match with May if you ask me. She can gatekeep Rayquaze right before the summit same way she did the Lilycove Department Store.
EDIT 2:
Aww man.
My final team for May/Brendon would change depending on your Rivals gender respectively:
Starter
Beautifly/Dustox
Exploud on either team (thought about Plusle/Minun here but they are better together then separated due to the abilities)
Depending on Starter choice, rotate between:
{Roselia/Breloom, Camerupt/Torkoal, Gorebyss/Huntail}
And finally, the rival would have the Latias/Latios.
Maybe opening up a side quest to receive the other Lati@s for yourself.
Wally would have:
Gardevoir
Ludicolo (the dual grass/water typing makes me not want this on May/Brendon but would work well on Wally)
Altaria
Magneton (dont like this since not gen 3, but better than minun/Plusle and not a gym leaders ace but Manectric could fit here too possibly)
Zangoose (hate getting rid of Delcatty, but this just feels so fitting for Wally)
Absol
I dont love Camerupt/Torkoal for May Brendon since those are the aces of Maxie and Flannery but i wanted to keep all gen 3 mons, which are very limited here.
Having the teams change based on may / Brendan is cool and would add some nice replayability
I'm an exploud fan so I'm all for the rival using one and giving the rival the other lati twin is a fun idea!
For Wally's team giving him the ludicolo is interesting but I can see it helping him a lot
And yeah zangoose and absol feel like a great fit for him
Thanks for the comment, I like your rival team ideas!
1:06 bro cooked with the ranking but forget to put in Paldea
That's only because I'm yet to complete the game
@@RoryTheFiend ahh valid
Fuck no Gen 1 and 2 is far too low
Putting Black and White at the top is especially disgusting
Thank you! It's basically just Photoshop, well I use a different free software called paint . Net
Speaking of berries the gen 7 berry farming mechanic in the pokepelago made me want to use berry strats more often.
The salac berry is a personal favorite of mine.
I think having a battle with the rivals before or after the gyms would make sense. You encounter May at the 4th gym. Have her be like,
"By the way..."
"I see you beat the Lavaridge Gym! Congrats! I've been catching a lot of new Pokémon myself. Do you want to battle and see?"
>Yes
No
"Great! Let me heal you up, first." *Heals*
"Great! Let's go!"
And maybe you can fight *with* Wally at the Space Center in the Multi-Battle
Steven: "They're causing problems all over the city. I think the leader is at the Space Center. If you take them down, the others are likely to leave as well."
"I have to go recover some fossils and stones they took. I don't know what they have planned, but I'm worried they will try to cause the volcano to erupt again. I trust you can handle things from here." So he leaves, and you have the Multibattle with Wally instead of Steven.
That way, they have a little more relevance to the story.
I think of these kind of videos whenever someone says "Pokemon used to be harder!".
I never realised the rivals were this whack tho :p
Thank you! The thing with dragon claw and earthquake is that it's actually tms I used on flygon, since it doesn't get those moves via level up
@@RoryTheFiend Thank you for replying!
Wow I clicked on this by mistake but I stayed because the video was very well.made. thoroughly entertaining😊
this video waws such an interesting watch, i'd love to know how you make those bulbapedia style trainer team thingies they look so cool
-----
1st Wally Encounter:
Level 17 Azurill, Slam, Bubble, Tail Whip, Charm, no item.
-----
2nd Wally Encounter:
Level 26(Normal)/28(Hard) Swablu, Fury Attack(Normal)/Secret Power(Hard), Peck, Astonish(Normal)/Steel Wing(Hard), Sing(Normal)/Mist(Hard), no item(Normal)/Sitrus Berry(Hard).
-----
3rd Wally Encounter:
Level 45(Normal)/47(Hard) Breloom, Leech Seed, Sky Uppercut, Counter(Normal)/Sludge Bomb(Hard), Giga Drain, no item(Normal)/Poison Barb(Hard).
Alternatively, Loudred and Exploud could use Overheat instead of Flamethrower, since the rest of this moveset is Physical in Gen 3.
I would change it to:
Leaf Blade
Swords Dance
Brick Break
Iron Tail/Dragon Claw
A mixed glass canon sweeper/cleaner. Swords Dance to set up, and proceed to hit REALLY FUCKING HARD.
I love the video but I think instead if two safari zone encounters give the rival in lilycove a chimecho instead
Thank you and that's a good shout! I'll be completely honest chimecho just never entered my mind lol, but I think it'd be a decent team member that shows she is exploring everywhere to find pokemon
Very amazing work, keep up ! Just a note : you disn’t cover the rain on route 119 (if i’m not mistaken)
On the final rival fight you maybe could have given torkoal sunny day so sceptile can fire off one-turn solar beams
People shit on Gamefreak now, but completely forget how negligent they were back in the day too lmao
ive read that may having a torkoal in rustboro was a coding error by the devs. dont know if thats true, but it honestly makes the most sense imo
Could easily happen I suppose, maybe all the played testers never picked torchic to notice it lol
Or the play testers just assumed it was intentional maybe
Keeping in mind this would be for a hypothetical "hard mode" and designed to be a bit stronger than usual
And yeah I have no clue why they made wally completely disappear until Victory Road!
May don't need surf she can swim 😂😂
Facts, to be fair it's literally like a river between mauville and route 118, bunch of wimps too scared to cross it without their pokemon

19:43 Why is that move called Sing, it should’ve been called lullaby because it puts you to sleep.
You're right! lullaby would be more accurate of a move name for sing
If I create the rivals teams using only Hoenn pokemon will be something like this:
For Wally's Team I'll give him Gardevoir, Absol, Milotic, Altaria, Roselia and Delcatty.
For May's Teams
1- Sceptile, Manectric, Swellow, Seviper, Flygon and Huntail.
2 - Blaziken, Breloom, Zangoose, Gorebyss,
Glalie and Banette.
3 - Swampert, Exploud, Shiftry, Aggron, Dusclops and Grumpig.
I honestly didn’t know seviper was a mixed attacker.
I might have to take some notes from Jessie give it a try for a gen 3 play through.
15:12 Wow, never got the update that Sitrus Berry is a Grass type move now in Gen 3.
Great video I love this format. Maybe next time you can also upgrade Archie and Maxie and their admins since in my opinion they are a little weak
Still odd since Branden used Numel
Fun fact even with these improvement it is still not Wally's strongest team
I think oras fixed everything but I love videos like this 🤘🏼
I hope you do this for more rivals
I may do at some point, gen 3 was the perfect target since they're bad and there's not too many baffles so the video isn't like 90 mins long
@@RoryTheFiend I know it's a lot of work but I would really like to see the x/y rivals reworked
I wouldn’t give the rival 2’s Pokemon Oran berries since that isn’t consistent with gym battles, you also don’t get a sitrus berry at this stage in the game so I think I’d only give the starter an Oran and that’s it
I feel like wally should get the leftover starter
Yeah that would be fair, but birch would rather keep it in his lab gathering dust
New mic sounds 🔥
Love the new rival battles and the growth you gave to them 😊 Will this be being made into a rom hack by any chance? The hacks from your previous videos have become my go to way to play those games, and I'd love to play this version! Once again, great stuff and looking forward to what you come up with next!
Hey thank you so much! I'm glad you think my mic is good!
And yeah I hope this can be turned into a romhack, basically there's a member of the community called Xander who enjoys trying to make these for me, the requirements for this rom hack will be a bit more difficult as we will need to add in cutscenes and new battles. So Xander is going to try figuring it out, he's still getting grips to rom editing
Also I still plan to "fix Hoenns Gym Leaders & Elite 4" so if Xander figures out all the rival stuff, then you may want to hold off until I make my other videos for hoenn.
@RoryTheFiend You're welcome 🤗
great to hear! Looking forward to it! 😀
