- I'll keep saying it, I'm not a huge fighting game guy, but I am a gigantic fan of action figures. Gimme a good toy and I'm hooked on a line. That's exactly what Storm Collectibles has done here with their Street Fighter V Ryu. Just like the Mortal Kombat Scorpion, Ryu is such a good action figure that it makes me excited for more. And more.

That's the first rule of Street Fight Club.
From what I've seen so far, both the Storm Collectibles and SH figuarts Ryu have problems in term of stylistic design. Storm Ryu has just ok face parts, doesn't have much variation in the eyes to make them look interesting, while the SH Fig Ryu has a much more faithful face sculpt, with one face part having the eyes in different direction. On the other hand, SH Ryu seems to be kind of slim, but the Storm Ryu looks more on model in the game, being bulky.
Still, Storm Collectibles did great job so far, sadly they are in more of 7inch scale that I don't collect. Hopefully the SH figuarts Ryu will be as good as this.

Does anyone knows how well this storm collectibles figures look side by side with the play arts kai line? Im looking foward to add bison and zangief to my colection but im afraid they will look too small...
Had no idea this was out. The Figuarts Ryu kind of scared me out of getting this one, but I'm seriously tempted now...

Just like Scorpion, (which is currently in the mail!) Storm Collectables is just killing it! Im all in with both lines. I love Street Fighter! HADOUKEN. HADOUKEN. HADOUKEN. HADOUKEN
Yeah, they are, they came out swinging and it's completely working.
To me theses figures are more 1:10 scale figures. They scale almost perfectly with Neca figures. They are very cool. Can't wait for the Sub Zero to come out.

I just started collecting the Sota figures and there great articulated items. But I just don't like the idea of taking off body parts "for at the beach look". Don't get me wrong it's looks like an awesome figure, I'm just an old fashion guy with simple tastes and simple figures.
I first encountered fighting games (especially Street Fighter) at arcades in hotels at vacations in spain. I was in love with them and then I got Street Fighter for the SNES and the love never ended. Unfortunatly it was onesided, I bought tons of them from King of Fighters to Street Fighter but I was never really good. But that's life.
This Ryu really is incredible, really high quality. I would love to see the whole Street Fighter cast, especially Cammy. I am curious how a female figure would turn out. All the males from Storm Collectibles are amazing, that quality with female characters as well would be dope.

Same here, I'm really interested in what Storm can do with the females. If they can do as good as they do with the males they should be pretty awesome.

Awesome review, but, one suggestion if you are going to start reviewing fighting figures on a regular basis, you have to get the blast effects and flying rubble bases SH accessory packs and pose them in those in your reviews! Awesome figure though!
I've been wanting to get those for a long time, now I have an excuse!
That neck and torso hinderances really kills this for me. The kicking poses at the end of the video could've looked so much better with adequate movement in those areas. And I've been wondering why the faces looked so off to me, and I've finally figured it out. There's too much space between the eyebrows and eyes; in game, they're nearly touching.
I'd ultimately go with Figuarts on this one, but I don't know how many characters they're gonna do. I'm gonna want an M. Bison and possibly Ken, so I feel like the scale shift was maybe an intentional thing done to push sales on all of their stuff and prevent mixing and matching with other brands. Then again, I could just be paranoid.
It may be a licensing thing too, a no-competition clause, like Diamond Select can only do 7 inch scale Marvel figures. But I've also heard Capcom can be picky and a bit hard to work with, so there may be other factors at play.
His 6 pack is almost as good as mine......... mine is in the fridge but hey lololol i played the first street fighter games back in the day but never made it to 5, man thats a good looking figure, makes me look forward to Storm Collectibles future figures, I need a Storm Collectibles Iron Man lol

I was actually considering getting this figure since I currently have it under my eBay Watch List. So big thanks for the nice informative review on this particular figure. Maybe it will sway my decision to actually getting it :)

I too like to watch fighting game, but I am not very good at them. I like what you did at 2:56, putting the figure in the same pose as the still shots from the game.
That was a happy little accident, I was running back and forth from the office to the review room while looking at pics and they just came out that close, worked out great.
What do you mean you don't mix your figures? Do you mean by companies like Bandai, Hasbro, Good Smile, etc and etc? Or like by franchise like Street Fighter, Marvel, Star Wars, Transformers, etc, and etc? You don't pose your figures like, Marvel vs Capcom, Super Smash Bros, and so on?
I mean properties. My Star Wars display is a mix of Bandai, Medicom, Hasbro, and third party items, but they also match in scale and aesthetic for the most part. And like I said, I'm not much of a fighting game guy since way way back so I've actually never played Super Smash Bros or Marvel vs. Capcom.
I had this preordered for a while, but I ended up canceling a while back. I may get the upcoming SH Figuarts Ryu and Chun Li. I like that they're less bulky, even though that's not how they look in the current games. I don't hate the look, but it's just not my favorite.

Still on dilemma between Storm Street Fighter & SHF.
I feel the face & the articulation of Storm Ryu is different from the promo pictures.
Can you do the hadouken & high kick same as it was done on the promo pics? Thanks a lot.
Oh yeah, all the articulation carried over. I passed on the SHF, the face looks weird and I didn't really need another one.
They should give a cloth for this figure.
I pre-ordered Ryu from BBTS. No info yet maybe late Jan or early Feb release for us folks? You lucky devil The Fwoosh.;)
It's shipping out now from Storm's site and US retailers should have their stock very soon. And yeah, heh, I'm pretty lucky. For now. It's about time for the engine to fall out of my truck or something, haha!

These are at TRU? And that's a good price, this figure is niiiiiice.
It honestly would never have looked as good as the prototype, though I was expecting more shading in the skin. It's a pretty decent figure if you're into the 7INCH scale; personally I like my figures at the 6INCH scale so it's not for me. The shoulders could be better; I'm not sure how long you can pop out those parts without twisting the soft plastic too many times/breaking the joint. This definitely looks more similar to the SFV model than the SHF, which I think was going for a hybrid between classic look and the more recent exaggerated one. I wonder which one you'll end up liking more!
I don't know if I'm splurging for the SHF versions yet, pretty happy with this one. The parts that pop aren't a soft plastic though, the joints are hard plastic and believe me, I popped them way more than I showed in the video, haha. And I'm not much for 7 inch either but if the whole line scales together I'm good, it's not that much bigger than my beloved 6 inch.

+chino1 moreno - That's already a given, no need for any pictures as the icons figures are a bit shorter than Marvel Legends, and this Ryu is taller than a Marvel Legend, so theres no point for picture as one can already assume the scales of them.
i think like me, many people are thinking about customizing the karate guy into a ryu figure, so it will be nice to see the ryu we get now from storm collectibles (original) and the very high potential to become an awesome ryu (icons) to have sort of a starting point for people interested in customization, now scale is a bit of a letdown since ryu coul be awesome next to spiderman and you can recreate a marvel vs capcon with a standar cheap marvel legends figure. that picture could lead to a desition for many people bro, im just saying

How sturdy is it? Like s.h. Figuarts fragile. Or u can play with it tough? How's the plastic?

Have to agree with ya. I love love love SHF but the last few I've gotten have had an issue or two, almost like they are taking too much on at once? Maybe? I don't know, but I''m always down for another company to produce some awesome action figures and Storm is coming out of the gate swinging.

Heh, yeah, when I was young and there was no internet I said it that way with no frame of reference at all, but as soon as I heard other people pronouncing it this way I made an effort to change the way I said it. Even though it was stuck in my brain the other way for the longest time.

I've been curious about these figures. I was tempted to get the Blue Ryu but it'll be WAY out of scale with the Figuarts versions and I don't really want to try to collect two different lines of SF figures.
When it comes down to it I think Storm will dig deeper into the roster and give us more characters than the SHF line will. Don't get me wrong, I love SHF but they have a tendency to take a long time to get more than main cast out.
Well like who else would there be besides "main cast" for Street Fighter? Or do you mean characters like Birdie versus all of the Ryu's/Ken's/etc..?
I really like what I'm seeing from Storm Collectibles, I just wish they did more SF II figures instead of SF V but I might get these too. Very nice review, mate
I think SFII is off limits, maybe because of Figuarts doing figures from around that era? Not sure.

Yeah, I see the SHF as more of a mash-up, a generic look. This one is straight up SFV. And while I've never played the game I like that Storm is already building the line up and they will all match up great. I feel like I don't even need the SHF now.
That's good to hear, as even in person at NYCC I wasn't sold on the SHF. I'm hoping to be able to get a chance to give the SHF's a whirl at Toy Fair next month.
Thanks for posting this review! I just saw the Storm Collectibles Zangief promo photos yesterday, and was debating whether to buy the other three Street Fighter figures.
I really appreciate how you did a side-by-side comparison of the figure with actual in-game shots of the Ryu character model. When it comes to action figures, It's awesome when the toy companies make great efforts to maximize character-likeness. (I'd like to believe that most adult toy fans would be willing to pay more for this attention to detail.)
I'm glad the final product is very similar to the promo shots. It's so disappointing for toy collectors when you go "all-in" with pre-order purchases based on the polished promo pics, and then find out months later the actual product released isn't the same quality.

The Fwoosh I plan on showing my appreciation by collecting the line. This line is gonna be so bad ass! Just a few I hope they release: Vega, Dudley, Balrog, Alex, Blanka, Cammy, and Zangief.
I want this but I'm mad they made street fighter 5 only for ps4 when street fighter 4 was for both ps and xbox

Got this on preorder can't wait to get it. I probably get the Scorpion too. I'm really hope they make the females for the line because so far all they have shown are the male characters. The SH Figuarts have Ryu and Chun Ali so far so that brings them over the Storm Collectibles in my opinion.
But Figuarts has habit of not taking lines very far unless it's DBZ or Kamen Rider, at least from what I can tell. Storm has shown a variant of Ryu, Ken, M. Bison, and just teased Zangief, along with Shao Kahn and Goro for the MK line.
I know. It seems like they mostly flesh out Japanese anime figure lines then anything else. They have and still are continuing to make a lot of Star Wars figures though. A lot of companies though have started a line and then stopped without releasing all the characters that should be included in a series so it could happen no matter what company is involved.

I don't think I'm grabbing the Figuarts. Mostly because I don't need to be spending money on yet another line, but I also think we're going to get more characters from Storm. I want a big display. But, the Figuarts may fit better with some Marvel characters if you're a Marvel vs Capcom fan.
I really dig the Storm version of Ryu, but not a fan of the Ken design used in the game. I want a straight up red gi version so I'm hoping SHF releases that version. Never even thought about using the SHF in a Marvel vs. Capcom setup...mind blown lol. Looking forward to the Sub-Zero from Storm too. Thinking about replacing the the 6" Mezco one in my display...he's too damn tiny lol.
Sub-Zero should be as nice as Scorpion, and Scorpion is NICE, so you should be happy, haha. And you know, it's been so long that I forgot Ken was just a color swap, head, and no tatters. I'm kinda liking the change though, makes him his own character.

Both are great but I lean to Scorpion, the articulation lends itself to a thinner frame better.

I really like the Ryu but the pic of Zangief is making me need all of them even more. He just looks amazing.

I'm kinda like you don't play fighter games (matter fact, haven't played video games since late 1989 when that Nintendo movie with the boy that went to the championships! lmao) & I'm just an observer too, but the great news is, I LOVE action figures!, Then I especially big chunky ones (can't stand opening my 3.75" toys, or even 6" rubber legged marvel legends) but these? I'm all for it. I know alot if the lore/story so I've been getting into Street Fighter lately. I have M. Bison, Ryu, & Ken preordered (skipped Dark Ryu) & as soon as Zangief is up, ill preorder hin too! I even have rhe Shfiguarts SF2 figures preordered XD

They are still up in the air with Alex but they did show a prototype at last year's SDCC. Looked pretty badass.
The Fwoosh Oh yea I remember seeing the grey proto of him. He kinda looked like they were using Kens body mold maybe, wouldn't you agree? But with more mass and rags, like his bandana, hanging off him. But nothing since then I'm really digging the line though and tbh, even know the Shfiguarts TMNT Turtles look bad ass in construction, especially the diecast, I much perfer the Street Fighter lore and story. I got into them in 2014 (I'm an old collector. Been at it since '96 when I graduated.) I just never thought of street fighter as cool, until i saw good toys coming up. And originally I wanted to get PAK and NECAs. When they did a comic, thats what really tipped the scales for me was the Gijoe vrs Street Fighter comic I believe by IDW. That's where I learned about the characters more then I started watching the anime movies like SF2 & SF4 movies. But I can't freaking WAIT to get Storm Collectibles M.Bison!!
If I remember right, Alex was a bit bigger than Ken and Ryu, but that was 6 months ago.
