Knitting or crocheting a blanket assembled out of squares is a great "on the side"-project. You work on it when you need something mindless to do while watching tv or travelling. Don't set a deadline, just have it handy for when your other projects are too big or demand too much brain activity.
Not related to the video itself, but. I keep looking at that crochet rug. I'm buying my first apartment and the evil seed of "I totally could crochet an entire living room rug too" is germinating fast. it just looks so thick and cozy... And I dig the rustic melange... Surely I Won't Regret Crocheting A Rug!!!
@@BreathingYarn yeah, I have no illusions about it being cheaper than a store-bought rug, so I've got that going for me. We'll see where how my struggle ends!
In all honesty, I would not mind 8 minutes of Pippin cuddles 😂 ( Maybe, if you feel like it, make it a feature every now and then - coupled with the amazing music you edit into your videos. Just a little vibes for us all. Pls don’t feel pressured tho) Love your videos! All the good vibes from germany ❤
Your videos are always so creative, I love them so much. It's fun watching your take on a project video and it always motivates me to work on a knit project that's been sitting in my head.
Currently at work [kind of a paperwork/desk job] and so happy to see this posted! I usually have something on in the background to keep me company, but it's always nice to have a friendly crafter's voice to have nearby. Happy knitting!
The pillow looks absolutely beautiful! Any tiny imperfections that only you see, give it character and that handmade charm. I love the buttons, so practical to remove for washing. A cream background with red and green would be so nice for Christmas. Because you can remove the cover, you could just store it away flat. That leftover brown yarn would make a great seat pad, knitted up and felted.
I think honestly for something like a pillow that the guts would never ever see the light of day I would just knot and cut the ends and not worry about it. But maybe that would be too chaotic evil of me.
As someone who also has sensitive skin, clothing/accessories that don't touch your skin directly might work? Legwarmers, mittens with a fleece lining, etc.
Totally in love with your colour choices for this! I have made 3 sweet shop blankets 🤣🙈 Granted they were 12 square baby blankets but i find them so "potato chippy". The squares are so addictive and all the squares point the same way so its alot more intuitive than the Stella. Xxx
@BreathingYarn they are quite addictive 🤣 Love your buttons too. That's exactly what I will be doing when I get around to making some. They are on my ever growing list 🤣. Also, about the swearing, I'm pretty sure I was a sailor in a previous life! 🤣. I'm just finishing up the Sweary crochet blanket. It's been quite cathartic 🤣 xx
Your cushion turned out great! I’ve determined I don’t love knitting blankets. Crochet is a little faster, so it’s not as much of a slog. I have three hibernating blankets that I need to finish. But no more starting a blanket until they’re done. One is a scrappy mitered square blanket, and I completely agree with not weaving in ends until corners are filled in because 1) it’s harder to pick up stitches if you have bulk in your fabric from weaving in ends, and 2) I can use those ends to manipulate stitches and tidy up the joins where they meet in the corners. Sorry you’ve been sick. We’re sniffling here, too. 🤧 Yesterday I didn’t knit one stitch. And packing is also stalled. It’s a 🗑️ 🔥 around here! ~Brenda
Watched this while knitting some self-drafted twisty leg warmers and looking out of the window at the first big snowfall of the season~ I had a lovely time, thanks for keeping me company :)
@ update I made a snowman and called him johnny ⛄️💕 and that’s fair but every climate has its pros and cons, and I hope the pros of yours make up for it :)
I just started the video, but friend, in the beginning… WHAT SWEATER ARE YOU WEARING!!! 😻 Yes, I was yelling. I was super excited. lol Also, the fisherman’s wool does soften a little bit after blocking, but it’s rustic. I wear a tee under my garments made with it. But it’s nice and warm.
😂 that sweater is the first sweater I ever made. It’s self drafted (because I was scared of patterns). I used drops alpaca and I really like it! It’s mostly beginners luck as to how it turned out so good.
Ooooo please do a video on what to do with yarn you do not want to wear. I was gifted the same fisherman's wool and I agree, I will never wear it. I have no idea what to do with it. Saving this pillow pattern for when I eventually learn how to knit
with the fishermans wool- you could make a hat and line it with a softer fabric that way it can help keep you warm but not be directly against your skin :3
I’m planning to use the blanket version of the pattern as a sort of temperature blanket next year 😅. Make some kitchen mitts of pot holders with the fisherman’s wool? All 4 of those extra yarns are really pretty together so maybe some stripes decor pieces? A bunch of those adorable knitted ornaments I keep seeings around as gifts for folks or for decorating?
Your pillow came out so cozy -- and it compliments that red blanket perfectly! On zippers and knitting: you can do it! I made a knitted bag (well, actually many, since they were bridesmaid's gifts) with a zipper/lining and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. If you want to dip your toes in, I would highly recommend it as a pattern: Knitted Bag of Spring by Signe Kamper Kankelborg / plummum on Ravelry! Small enough for a quick project, and good to use as a toiletry/organizing bag/clutch/etc.
It’s so nice to come over here from making Booktube vids to enjoy my other hobbies and find my faves talking about books 🥹 Best of all the worlds intersecting! 💚
Great pillow, Isabella! I did kinda notice some slight differences in the beige yarn, but to be honest, it just looks like shading to me. Leftovers - make a container for your leftover balls of scrap sock yarn? Cute kitties! My cat can’t stand to be held. On the other hand, he loves to sit next to me on the arm of my recliner for TLC and petting! Love your videos…! 🥰
The cushion turned out super cute! As for your leftovers, I used that exact Fisherman's Wool for the Nr 3 Doble Tøfler Felted Slippers, and they're so wonderful, and only used 300 yards for the pair.
Lovely video! The cushion cover is beautiful. I was watching while crocheting a summer top. Its currently 33 degrees Celsius here and we are melting................
You crochet a rug. That sucker is a good two afghans right there. Fishermans wool felts like nobody's buisness. It would make great felted hot pads or trivits. Felted slippers are a possability if you know someone that would wear them. Felted cat toys too.
If I were feeling ambitious I would go back and embroidery (double-knit might be the correct term?) over the "imperfect" areas that were bothering me. Sort of like the kitting equivalent of touching up scuffs with a sharpie 😆 I love the idea of the buttons, but buttonholes scare me so I would have attached loops to close the buttons instead.
I made the most amazing wool blanket out of that exact lion brand fisherman’s wool, I think you might enjoy it mixed with another fiber as an accent for a throw blanket.
Rustic feltable yarn is great for felted slippers. You need a pattern, though, because what you do is you basically knit huge socks and then wash them in the washing machine. Different yarns shrink in different ways.
I just knit strips 72 inches long (for vertical stripes) or 60 inches long (for horizontal stripes) in whatever stitch pattern with leftover yarn and then sew them together into a throw. This way I can use up leftover yarn. It also lets me try out stitch patterns. If you want to crochet, mile a minute afghans are great scrappy projects
Oh my gosh a felted basket?! Or honestly maybe it could even make a cute felted bag? There are some patterns out there of like animal face-handbags, maybe you could make a cute cat handbag or something 🥰
That dark wool yarn makes me think of your humongous wool rug, so maybe if there's a space in your home that lacks a rug you could make a smaller one with it
I was also disappointed that the lions brand fisherman wool was not super next to skin friendly. It makes great hard wearing slippersocks to keep your feet cozy, and holding it with surri alpaca or mohair can make it feel alot softer and snugglier. I have also made a few hats and fingerless gloves with it and it does great with those, very durable so far. I think it would make a great rug /floor thow.
Are you familiar with log cabin squares knitted in garter stitch? Novita has a free pattern for a long jacket and a skirt made of those squares. You just inspired me to look into that more carefully.
How about some felted clogs with your Fisherman’s Wool? Felt Clogs by Bev Galeskas. Have made MANY versions of these and everyone loves them. So enjoy your videos - novel, smart, sometimes snarky, and Kitties!!
For the fisherman wool- how about a felted basket? You could freehand crochet it. Loved the video- will definitely need to knit at least one of these for my quilter mom!
Is there a video you could recommend on how to do the type of button holes you did close to the bind off edge? I've not done that before. Your pillow turned out beautiful!
I learned how to knit and crotchet when I was 8 or 10 yo and I basically didn't use those skills until last September. Something happened where I got so into knitting I can barely do anything else 😅 when you said that in the beginning most projects don't turn out and once you level up sort of you become much more pickier I could relate so much. A part of me a year and a half ago was happy with whatever I could make, and now I feel like I have not made a single decent project in months. It is not true, but with growth in expertise, the growth in need for excellence grows as well. Maybe that's a good thing. Annoying yes, but it makes us produce less and choose better materials and projects ❤ always love your videos ❤
The way that we were on the same wavelength about what to try with that leftover Fisherman's Wool,, I was also thinking baskets or bowls, and the perfect opportunity to try felting. If a felted bowl goes all whoopsie, maybe it was simply meant to be a dryer ball all along 😂 That pillow is SO super cute, looks so huggable, and the buttons are such a nice touch, both aesthetically and for added security! Also want to mention that I really love the gentle, warm lighting in all of your videos. You've curated a wonderfully cozy space and it's like a hug for my eyes ✨👁👄👁 ✨ (As a fellow black cat mommy Merry and Pippin are SO SWEET,, truly if no want hold then why so holdable??)
I've watched quite a few videos from you over the last couple of weeks and I just now realized that I had no idea what your name was 😅 I definitely knew your cats' names haha.
With my leftover tweed yarn i crocheted booksleves for my friends for Christmas a couple years ago. I ahd a cream tweed for yhe main color and a yellow for the inside color. If you are interested in the pattern I used, I can look for it for you.
I've seen a few really cute book sleeves out and about. I should add that to my list to consider. There is so much of this yarn so I am hoping I can stretch it out across a few projects (fingers crossed)
A quote that has been passed through my family "You won't see that once the music's playing". No one will see that little fib until your grandchild decides to recreate it 40 years later.
Maybe the remaining brown Fisherman’s Wool could be another pillow cover but with a cabled or textured pattern, so you have pillows that are in the same color family but not matchy-matchy!
I also bought some fisherman’s wool based on wool needles hands recommendation and totally regretted it. The yarn is awful and I’d never be able to wear it. A pillow might be a good idea. I was thinking slippers as I’d always be wearing socks but there is so much yarn in a ball I’d make a million pairs of slippers 😂.
I also heard about the fisherman’s wool on Wool Needles Hands. Promptly went to buy some. But… I squeezed it, screamed, and ran away. I can not imagine the torture of wearing a sweater made of that. I’ll keep it in mind though in case I ever commit a sin I need to punish myself for.
22:41 I have a lovely black cat called Kola who loves being held by me and only me, and let me tell you it is a mixed blessing. Her affection is somewhat seasonal, so I'm not sure if she actually loves me or if she is just cold, but in the winter months she wants to be held CONSTANTLY. And if you try to remove her, she will cling onto my shoulder. At the vets, they always ask me if she'd be more comfortable with me putting her on the scales and I have to tell them "well yes she would be more comfortable with me picking her up, but it's going to take both of us working together to put her down again."
@@ginninadances I have thought about it, but the way she likes being held is with me holding her back paws and her front paws flopped over my arm or shoulders. She doesn't like unstable surfaces like slings and that position of having my arm underneath her like a hug seems very important to her, it's also how she cuddles up to me. Always on a mission to flop those front paws over my arm.

I made the most amazing wool blanket out of that exact lion brand fisherman’s wool, I think you might enjoy it mixed with another fiber as an accent for a throw blanket.
My corners were also slightly off. Another reason to wait on weaving in ends is to use the ends to tidy up those corners with some double stitch. 😊
Agreed! I definitely fudged some of the corners
maybe with the wool yarn you could crochet catnip stuffed toys for the kitties?
Rustic feltable yarn is great for felted slippers. You need a pattern, though, because what you do is you basically knit huge socks and then wash them in the washing machine. Different yarns shrink in different ways.

You could knit a diagonal pillow cover with the leftovers
I love what you made keep up with it.

I'm kinda interested in the fiber content of the "10% tweed" cos it's usually sheep's wool but tweed can also be synthetic... 😅
dolls or toys are a good option for yarn too scratchy to wear…or a rug, a teapot cozy, or ornaments. a bookcover…a tote bag. lots of things

I squeezed it, screamed, and ran away. I can not imagine the torture of wearing a sweater made of that. I’ll keep it in mind though in case I ever commit a sin I need to punish myself for.
Thank you! I feel seen
😂 I appreciate the reminder that more affection usually means more cling too. Your fur baby sounds so sweet 🥹 🐈⬛
Baby carrier for you and your cat?
@@ginninadances I have thought about it, but the way she likes being held is with me holding her back paws and her front paws flopped over my arm or shoulders. She doesn't like unstable surfaces like slings and that position of having my arm underneath her like a hug seems very important to her, it's also how she cuddles up to me. Always on a mission to flop those front paws over my arm.
B-roll pippin pets!

Maybe you should do a few duplicate stitch marks to “perfect” the corners that really bug you.
