My daughter is a picky eater. She eats the same lunch everyday, but it's fortunately a lunch that includes all the needed nutrients: broccoli, sliced apples, almond butter on whole wheat bread and yogurt. Sometimes, she'll eat nuts or seeds too. She eats other items for breakfast and dinner, but that's her go-to lunch. I can't believe she's not sick of it by now.
When I was a child I was super picky also, basically eating chicken nuggets, white bread and butter noodles that's it. Now that I'm an adult I eat most stuff and can't eat the same thing more than 3 days in a row. ldk how I was always eating the same thing back then, I really can't imagine doing that now!!
The most horrifying part of this story was that a 17 year old had such severely disordered eating for 10 years. So starting at age 7 his parents totally checked out and stopped caring about their son??? That’s beyond heartbreaking. If his sensory issues were so bad that he wouldn’t or couldn’t consume essential nutrients, then a feeding tube could have been placed or something. This was completely avoidable. Shame on his parents. It’s a parent’s responsibility to keep their children healthy and safe.
Reading your comment reminded me of how lucky I was as a kid. I myself was severely malnourished as a kid (more due to physiological problems) and was given a feeding peg at age 7. This is what I’m saying. You have to be a really shitty patent to do this. But it’s just some spoiled little shit who won’t eat the chicken his mom cooked him
I laughed at that haha. When I was dying of myocarditis, I was yellow and vomiting bile due to not being able to eat and drink, I was also pissing reddish brown. Signs of liver and kidney failure. The ER doctor told me i had the flu, to go home and to take tylenol. Luckily i didn't. Tylenol would have been what killed me. So I believe most horror stories how most doctors brush patients off like that. A lot of doctors lose their passion and some unlucky patients are graced with that kind of doctor in life or death situations.
Lol yeah but this not meant to be viewed as academic material.. I use these type of video as a test for my clinical sense... I just try and guess what's wrong and what investigations I would request...
There's something unexplained by the video. The boy's B12 level in the blood was normal (see 4:11 and 6:03). That was why the doctors did not suspect malnutrition at first. 12:31 The diagnosis was B12 malnutrition due to his poor diet, and subsequently, he was given B12 injection. If so, then how could his blood B12 level still be normal in the first place? The video mentioned malabsorption from 6:03 onwards. Malabsorption means the person has B12 in his diet but it isn't absorbed from his gut into his bloodstream (due to an autoimmune disorder that prevents the production of the intrinsic factor needed for B12 absorption, for example). But this wasn't what the boy suffered from. It wasn't that the boy could not absorb B12. It was simply because there was no B12 in his diet. And if he hadn't been eating B12 for so many years, how could his blood B12 level still be normal in the first place?
You can have ordinary B12 blood levels and be massively deficient just as a morbidly obese person can have a stomach that contains no food. B12 deficiency causes slow long-term damage and blood levels fluctuate up and down. There can be B12 in the blood despite the Central Nervous system being starved of it. So many Vegans have serious mental health problems despite having a close to normal B12 blood level. The boy was clearly an autistic kid that refused to eat anything other than chips.
Sorry that joke doesn't make any sense as Muslims - especially those who practice Salafism - are not allowed to eat pork products. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.
It's so sad that this kid wasn't sent to feeding therapy for ARFID. It's increasingly common to find people who legitimately cannot consume foods with varied textures, due to sensory or psychological reasons, but there are treatments for both
Try life with severe food allergies. I have peripheral neuropathy and could have died of scurvy because I didn't have any real help with diet, and doctors for the most part don't care (and don't test vitamin C levels in standard bloodwork in the US apparently). Now I keep up on the vitamins but it's all still kind of a mess, and trying to get any sort of diet management help with Medicare is a joke.
Same situation with my younger sister. She’s extremely violent and abuses me so I can’t even be in the same room as her. She’s 12 going on 13 and still has eaten nothing but peanut butter sandwiches fries and chicken tenders. Parents still cater to her and neglect me and my other siblings. Absolutely more than likely she has this along with autism but my parents don’t even believe in getting her treatment even though they can afford it. Honestly going to cut them off soon.

It baffles my mind how something so avoidable was allowed to happen, and how no interventions from any sort of physicians happened.

It's increasingly common because parents cater to their children instead of leading them.
Same situation with my younger sister. She’s extremely violent and abuses me so I can’t even be in the same room as her. She’s 12 going on 13 and still has eaten nothing but peanut butter sandwiches fries and chicken tenders. Parents still cater to her and neglect me and my other siblings.
