Hey guys, I wanted to say thank you for all of your support! That gives me a lot of energy and motivation! If theres anything you got for me (critic, hints and tips, lovely words, tools to restore or just a nice comment) feel free to leave it in the comment section or contact me by email! PS: What type of rustproofing such a tool is your favorite? Car Wax? Oil? Plating? Write your answer in the comments :-)
When wet sanding put a drop of washing up liquid in your water, this will help to stop your paper from clogging up and also acts as a lubricant. Nice work. 😉🇬🇧
I started this video and soon realized that I’d already watched it. It didn’t stop me from watching the entire video AGAIN. Your work is just that darn good!
You're a magician Mr P. Not really, just work very hard. I have learned and keep learning from you (Doc Beer, My Mechanics, Random Restorations, and the other top notch restorers like you guys) and keep gaining knowledge every video I watch! So thank you for sharing your wisdom with us in RUclips land😋!! You're a great instructor.
When brush cleaning the inside bore of something like this, I bolted a brass brush like that one to a Sawzall blade. Insert it in a Sawzall and I have a high speed brush.
Awesome restoration oh, I wish they would bring wrenches like this back imagine not having to lose a 10 mm socket because it has a handle, welded to it lol
Thanks Junior! In the dark deeps of the comment section a sub explained where these wrenches came from. I think they were used on big machines for turning the shafts 🙂
Видео классное. Но такого же результата можно было добиться и в 2 этапа, болгаркой с наждачным диском, потом пастой гои (если нет пасты, любым полиролем)
Not to discount your amazing work, but do you know if Gedore ever made polished wrenches like this? Also what will you be using to protect it from rust and or getting all dinged up by other wrenches since I can never seem to keep mine looking very polished for long.
Adam, thanks for your comment! :-) i dont think that Gedore made (just) polished wrenches like this one, they made (or sold) chrome wrenches or other platings. After the Video i just added some oil, you can also use car waxes, wd40, etc.. but, like polished aluminum Roms for example, you dont really Need to protect it, if you did a good Job. Because of the polishing, the metal molecules are „closed“ now and won’t „let water in“. So it’s like a self defense against rust. If you’re using your polished tools, I would recommend plating, or (if you want to keep them just polished) refresh the surface with „nevrdull“ for example, as soon as oxidation or dullness starts. Adam, I Hope I could answer your questions! :-)
Adamant Adam I think “restoration” means different things to different people. Just like “preservation” gets used at times, then the tool is painted! Better then new, to me, goes beyond restoration but it’s still a useful tool in the end. Maybe not for in a museum as a display example of the tool when it was new, but nice for a tool box, or to hang on the wall.
When I saw you clean it then put on rust protection treatment, I thought ok restoration. My mistake as you turned it into jewelry only have to drill hole in the end for the loop . Looks you know 👍🏼
Nice work man. Two questions. Could it be faster if the first treatment was with the grinder ? Why applaying oil before finishing ? Do Polishing not remove the oil? Thanks for your answer.
of course you can ... but you know how much durt and such will be flying around ;) it's just easier and cleaner to do some electrolytic de-rust porocess and polish then
I find it interesting that Gedore made a single-function 30mm pass-through 12 point socket wrench. (maybe part of a set?) It must have been used to constantly adjust some nut or collar on a shaft that you slid the wrench over. Today it would just be a box end wrench, which would not make a good a grip.
Tom, i thought the Same way, but couldnt find anything on the Internet. I found it in the deepest undergrounds of my shop. i own this shop for about 10 years, before this time the shop was untouched for about 20 years. So the wrench has to be at least 30 years old. Maybe a special tool? I think about asking gedore, if i get an answer, i will write it down here 🙂👍
Forgive my ignorance, but why do use electrolysis? Surely there's an appropriate brush head / sanding head you can use instead? Electrolysis is adding unnecessary time to the restoration? Or does it help prevent you scraping off healthy metal by doing a lot of the heavy lifting softly so to speak? Great vid, love your stuff!
Thanks for your comment Conor! Basically I did/do the electrolysis to lift the rust for the wirebrush, loosen the rust on hard to reach spots/inner areas/and so on. Another reason is, like you said, to keep my environment clean. If you start hitting it dry with the wirebrush or the angle grinder, you’ll be rustbrown in a few seconds, also your lungs. Thanks for watching! 🙂
@@misterpatina thanks for that! Had never considered the likes of safety etc. Is a very cool way of going about it. Have been considering a project such as old motorcycle restoration so it’s incredible being able to watch the techniques you use. Please keep it up!
Nice, put the tool back into use and made it pretty again. Wonder what a new one would have cost? Well done. New to channel, was stationed in Germany twice, miss it. Take care.
CountryPeddlerTKnauss thanks for your comment :) I think those tools aren’t that expensive, but for me it’s more about the passion 🙂 welcome to the channel, I hope you enjoy! Best greetings from Frankfurt am Main! You too! 🙂👍

Man, I thought that was a moldy old smoking pipe you were doing. 😂😆😆 Never seen that type of tool over here in US. lol. Turned out Gr8!

@Mister Patina Plating of course it's always gotta be plating dude!! Thanks for the videos man!

@@misterpatina No problem, glad to share the tip.

I don’t think it was that shiny coming off the production line 😂 Great job!

The you for scrubbing and getting the rust off! Beautiful job!!!!
Почему нельзя перейти сразу к абразивной обработке? До лепесткового круга всё было чисто для видоса?
Да🙂

Hey Sarah! Iam glad you like it! :-)
You managed to bring it back to zero miles / like new condition without compromising the legibility of the markings. That is a fine skill set. Kudos.

@TheJR1948 Ok "put your wrenches in a old drier with rocks" will do.
TheJR1948 Snapon tools are very smooth and shiny. Makes them slippery sometimes.

If I had to make a guess I would say it was a wrench included with a piece of machinery. Perhaps a lathe or mill..
Good
