    Can’t believe this doesn’t have more views whether you like the guy or not or think he’s a nut, I think this place should be a historical landmark just for its authenticity some old houses less grand get accepted and maintained

    This video definitely deserves more attention!! driving by this masterpiece today you would have no idea that at one point it was a fully functioning home with food in the fridge, a car in the driveway, electricity and running water. Today it just looks like an outer shell, you wouldn’t have even thought the inside was completely finished at one point.

    Just before this video I watched one on the same home that gave the impression that it had never been completed, let alone lived in.
    Enjoyed this very much. Well done. Thank you.

    I bet the parties were legendary.

      They were beyond legendary. 😊 What this video doesn't mention are the "secret" tunnels that Dr. Copenhaver built from his castle into Camelback Mountain. There were several of them and two of them opened up into large rooms that he had excavated from inside the mountain. I don't know if the current owner knows about those tunnels, they might have been sealed off after all these years.

    He traded labor for fixing people's teeth, lots of local construction workers did small jobs over many years.

    Owner: The concrete ceiling doubles as a bomb shelter.
    Bob: It doubles as a bomb shelter?
    Owner: Yes.
    Bob: Oh. Ok.
    (Bob's suspicion that he's a nut is confirmed)

    Built it by himself? Damn, Bob Villa lost all his credibility with that statement. That dentist couldn't mix a wheelbarrow full of concrete by himself.

    In 1987, even then, this place looked ridiculously 70’s and dated. Like the Playboy mansion, less the ladies, and plus a Howard Johnson’s.

      What a clueless comment. This got nothing to do with the 70s or even the 80s. This is an authentic timeless look. Looks amazing.

    Blows my mind why people would wana live on the mountain there and not just build nicer houses in phx. And all the houses are quite close together, there’s one right below him. And then do all that beautiful work just to go bankrupt, big smh 🤦🏻‍♀️

  • @AZGirl111
    @AZGirl111 3 года назад +2

    Blows my mind that there’s rich weirdos building up in the mountain instead of buying old land in phx or tearing down the ghetto houses and building there. I feel like downtown Phoenix couldve been wayyy nicer, but the rich branched out to Scottsdale and up the mountains I guess. I just don’t understand the want to live on a mountain, they enjoy the drive I guess lol. He had way to many things he didn’t need, like the crystal glasses and two beds in the master? Don’t have to wonder why he went bankrupt 😂😂 hate people like that
