The Marsden/Moody era is my favorite Whitesnake lineup. Every album is great. Bernie is so good and talented. Such a great lead player. Nice tribute, Pete. RIP, Bernie. We wish you well in your next life. 🙏🤘
Completely agree (except the 'next life bit'). Very talented and expressive guitarist. Those early Whitesnake albums were gems, not least because of Bernie's sound.
Definitely one of the losses that affects me more than usual with Whitesnake being one of my most beloved bands since I was a young teenager. I saw them in 1981 at my 2nd concert ever at the age of 15 and it made a huge impression on me. The lineup with him will always be the true Whitesnake for me. Saw Bernie again with Company of Snakes later and it was so great they kept that legacy alive. RIP, Bernie, play on in heaven.
I met Bernie a few times at various gigs & workshops around the UK. My mum did artwork for his solo stuff in the 90s, he signed my guitars, gave me advice & literally last week I bought a Gibson LP Custom Shop Murphy Lab BECAUSE of The Beast which I have idolised & dreamed about since I was 11. A truly wonderful kind man who had time for anyone. Meeting someone like this when I was young lead me to find incredible music which stayed with me. It was the bedrock to my love of music & guitar & I can’t thank him enough for everything he did for me. I will treasure those memories. RIP Bernie you legend ❤️
As a 16 year old saw Whitesnake at Leeds Queen’s Hall and then at Donington in 1981 We played Come and Get It and Live in the Heart of the City to death! Great times…RIP Bernie
Loved Whitesnake back in the day, saw them 5 times with Bernie & Micky on twin leads, awesome band. Bernie had a great singing voice too, very underrated and a sad loss. Great solo albums too. RIP Bernie and thanks for all the music.
I saw him a couple of times with Whitesnake. I ordered a solo cd which never tuned up after a couple of months 2 signed cd's turned up with a hand written letter apologizing, and an invite to his next show in my area. I got to chat with him before the show. A lovely man, fantastic guitarist and singer. R.I.P. Bernie Marsden Thank you for the memories
Bernie Marsden and the early Whitesnake is my favourite era of his work. Ready an' Willing is my all time favourite LP he appeared on. Last saw him live over 20 years ago with Company Of Snakes. RIP Bernie. Ain't Gonna Cry No More.......
Won me over with his incredible solo on the live version of Mistreated. Took a Purple classic and made it his own. I was fortunate enough to see the Marsden/Moody lineup twice at the Ipswich Gaumont. RIP.
Yes, i would say exactly the same, especially after seeing them on "Come an' Get it" tour. Live in the heart of the city brings it all back! Amazing line up. It was the best.
I just seen a beautiful video of him that he posted on Twitter to his fans only 2 days before he passed and he seemed so happy and all smiles. Rip a true gentleman.
RIP Bernie, condolences to his family and loved ones. He will of course also be missed by a large number of rock fans. A fine guitarist with a long career and I, along with many others will cherish the music he made with all his various bands and his solo material. A very sad loss.
Really sad news. Absolutely loved the Coverdale, Marsden, Moody, Murray, Paice and Lord line up, still my favourite era of the Snake. I was so close to seeing his show last year in the UK until it was cancelled due to health reasons. It would have been great to see him one last time. Go and have a free flight in Heaven Bernie, your music will live on, hopefully Mr Jon Lord will be there to welcome you. A truly sad day!
Rest well Mr. Marsden, you'll be sorely missed 🌺 Marsden played with UFO (1972-'73), Wild Turkey (1974), Cozy Powell's Hammer (1974-'75), Babe Ruth (1975-'76), Paice Ashton Lord (1977), Whitesnake (1978-'81), Alaska (1984-'88), Borderline (1993), The Moody Marsden Band (1993-'02), The Snakes (1996-'01), The Company of Snakes (1999-'02), The Little House Band (2000), The Majesticaires (2001), and M3 (2004)... to name a few.
Borderline's Line Up is a pretty good album, Micky Moody also plays on it. Some of the vocals are a little rough though. With a better main singer this could've been a great record. Fave tracks: "Love That Burns", "Woman", "Fun Runner"...
Was fortunate to have seen Bernie Marsden with Whitesnake when they opened for Jethro Tull in 1980 at the Garden in NYC. I’ve always loved the Marsden-era version of the band and used to have his solo lp, “And About Time, Too.” R.I.P.🙏🏼
Almost exactly 43 years ago to the day I first saw Bernie Marsden playing with Whitesnake at the Reading Rock Festival in 1980. What a great gig and what a superb guitarist! (my daughters are at the Reading Festival 2023 as I type this.....music lives on).
I too was at that festival of Rock and what a weekend it was, fabulous headlining acts Rory Gallagher , UFO and on Sunday Whitesnake brill ,did like the marsden / moody era of Whitesnake RIP Bernie 😢
So sad. Love his playing on the Whitesnake albums. Had the chance to see him live only once. On the Wacken Open Air 2000 with the Company of Snakes. Still remember this gig.
My first gig was Whitesnake in 1981, Bernie lived locally and I still have my signed vinyl and tour programme. He also gave me a lift to a party when I was hitchhiking! A great, perhaps underrated, guitarist, songwriter and even a better man. If anyone isn't familiar with his work listen to the version of "Blindman" from the Ready and Willing album. RIP Bernie
I've seen Bernie in stadiums at festivals and in intimate venues, and he always sounded amazing. I was lucky enough to meet him and had a chat whilst he signed his book for me. Top gent and a great loss to music. RIP Bernie.
This one really does hit hard. Every time I saw Bernie play live over the years - from early Whitesnake to recent times - he seemed to be enjoying himself so much. He had such a wonderful connection with his audience too. I'll never forget one gig a few years ago here in the UK, when he played Ain't Gonna Cry No More - Just Bernie and his acoustic guitar. During the raucous applause after he finished the song (which he played/sang superbly), he had a proper emotional look and was a bit misty eyed - like he was humbled by the outpouring of love and appreciation from everyone. Another corker was a Marsden Moody band gig. My word, the chemistry between Bernie and Micky was good - their styles so different, each solo distinctive in its awesomeness. And Bernie again seemed to be enjoying every moment of it - a smile on his face, and pure heaven from his fretboard. RIP Bernie - you'll be so sorely missed.
sad news. RIP Bernie! I'm sad to say, it's time to go But until we meet again along the road Remember this on your journey home When you hear the thunder roar, you're not alone We wish you well
You're right Pete about us Brit fans. I bought Ready And Willing way back in the summer of 1980. (BTW what a great year that was for heavy music) I saved up to buy the earlier albums, and when I got the live album for Christmas it was the best present ever. I know Whitesnake earned mega-bucks in the late 80's, but musically (for me at least) it just wasn't the same. Moody and Marsden were perfect and Snake were a great British blues/ hard rock band. RIP Bernie.
A guitarist with a beautiful feel to his playing. Loved his playing with Whitesnake, his tribute records to Peter Green, Rory Gallagher & John Mayal. I enjoyed his last three records immensely, Chess, Kings & Trios, blues bliss from Bernies fingers to my ears. R.I.P. Mr Marsden, you may be gone far too soon, but the music you left us with is the gift that keeps on giving.
Oh, such sad news. Love the early Whitesnake albums with Bernie & Micky Moody, was fortunate enough to see them live a few times in the late 1970s/early 1980s & always great shows. His 2 solo albums And About Time Too and Look at Me Now from that era are great as well. RIP Bernie
I'm genuinely sorry to hear this. I'm one of those who only likes the Masden & Moody era of Whitesnake. He brought such blues and soul feel to their music before David Coverdale decided to try for big bucks by aiming at the U.S. market. He always came across as the sort of bloke you could have a natter with over a pint in some country pub, just a decent man with his feet on the ground. I'm going to shamelessly namedrop here, so forgive me. In the 1990s I used to work for the British DJ Bob Harris. In 2006 he celebrated his 60th birthday with a party in a converted barn near his house. Music was provided by Bernie Marsden on guitar and one Robert Plant on vocals. They did a short set of bluesy fare which went down a storm. Marsden played beautifully and was having a blast. That's how I'll remember him, as someone in love with music and in it for all the right reasons. RIP Bernie, you'll be missed.
I saw him many years ago in Italy with a whitesnake 's cover band like special guest. He played very good and so bluesly with his friend Micky Moody . Great time
You will be remembred, mate. A great guitarist, and a decent man...An incredibly significant part of my teenage / mature years...Thank you, my sweet brother.
SHIT Pete! what a bummer!! just one of the most under rated and unsung greats-period. i remember getting Ready & Willing(promo) and Come And Get It as cutouts in the vinyl bin way back in the day(still have the records), it was the only way i could get them. i love that early Snake! of course Slide It IN came out and kicked my ass to the next level and has been my #1 favorite album ever since. what a loss man-what a loss!! :(

Lucky enough to have seen Bernie play live, a couple of times. Once with his band and once Solo, I will never forget his huge grin, and wonderful stories, R.I.P. Bernie 🎸
Fans were genuinely happy thay "Here i go again " was a big hit 2nd time around in the USA IT gave bernie the financial rewards he deserved. So many great musicians end up broke .For me that blues rock era of marsden/moody is head and shoulders above the soulless poodle metal of 1987 onwards. Rip
Don't Break My Heart Again ...💔 ... Condolences to family and friends for their great loss. RIP, Bernie, you made your mark and your wonderful legacy will live forever...

Wow what a loss I met him a few times and saw him live many many times he was always the gentlemen. He was a massive talent and will be sorely missed RIP Bernie
I met Bernie after a gig at Nottingham Rescue Rooms in the UK. We have lost an amazing songwriter and musician, Bernie was one of the good guys. An absolute gentleman and a lovely man, we have been blessed.
Great guitarist. Yea Alaska and other projects and with Whitesnake. Memorable seeing Whitesnake open for Priest in 81 and him being up there. Sure will miss Bernie. Thanks for the memories. Have those Whitesnake albums to enjoy and so much more to cherish. RIP Bernie.
Sad news! His autobiography, Where's My Guitar, is excellent and shows what an interesting life he led with a great insight into the British rock scene. A superb player!
I am speechless. Bernie Marsden passed away. I saw him many times with Whitesnake from 1979 onwards. That early line up with Coverdale, Paice, Lord, Marsden was the best and that was my first memory of a live gig 1981. Thanks Bernie for that fantastic memory.
I have the Love hunter album on vinyl signed by Moody Marsden and Neil Murry, I'll treasure it, my favourite era of the snake, his more recent blues covers albums are pretty good also.
This one hurts, so many great songs - Walking in the Shadow of the Blues from the Live album has always been a top 10 all time track for me. And my favourite Mistreated is the bootleg 1980 Reading Rock version on which Bernie and David Coverdale are amazing 🇬🇧
Rip Bernie i loved him and Micky moody in whitesnake. I love the live album also featuring the late great jon lord live in the heart of the city probably my favorite snake album. Gonna play that album tonight in his memory.
RIP. Part of my youth gone. I met him once and mailed a few times. What a gentleman. Grew up on the first few Whitesnake albums. He was as good as anyone else at melodic soloing. And let’s not forget the songs he wrote. Horrible news.
The Marsden/Moody era is my favorite Whitesnake lineup. Every album is great. Bernie is so good and talented. Such a great lead player. Nice tribute, Pete. RIP, Bernie. We wish you well in your next life. 🙏🤘
Couldn't agree more. That early period of blues rock is so much more soulful than the poodle haired metal of 1987 and after
Completely agree (except the 'next life bit'). Very talented and expressive guitarist. Those early Whitesnake albums were gems, not least because of Bernie's sound.
@@patrickmurphy1803 Indeed it is. Soulful is a good analogy.
Totally agree, my first ever gig was 1981 Whitesnake it was amazing. That bluesy Whitesnake was the best. RIP Bernie
Totally agree. Infact the Marsden/Moody era is the only Whitesnake phase I really like.
❤Bernie Marsden❤🎵🎸

Nicely put. Ya, , Glenn Hughes says he was a kind , good soul .R.I .P..
Reading 81, Mistreated, Bernie, beyond exceptional, thank you

Really gutted. He'll be walking in the shadow of the blues. RIP Bernie.

lucky to see him play live with Micky moody and Neil Murray in the Company of Snakes, great gig. A sad day.
Saw Whitesnake 1980 opened up for AC/DC. RIP. Bernie

An incredible artist and musician who has sadly left us. RIP Bernie.

sad news. RIP Bernie!
I'm sad to say, it's time to go

Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues 🎼
R.I.P Legend 🎸
I saw him many years ago in Italy with a whitesnake 's cover band like special guest.
He played very good and so bluesly with his friend Micky Moody . Great time
Very underrated but fantastic melodic player, one of the few that played what the song needed, nothing more. Thanks for the music sir.
Lovely tribute, Pete.
What a awesome and such a underrated player. Will be blasting some Whitesnake today as tribute. RIP Bernie Mardson

RIP Bernie, I will never forget those many wonderful nights with Whitesnake from 78 to 82, the best of times.
RIP Bernie. Brilliant guitarist and lovely person. Whitesnake were lucky to have had him
Oh no! I loved following him online. Such a cool guy.
Amazing guitarist. A very tasteful player. He will be greatly missed by many.

Thanks, Pete for a lovely tribute to a wonderful musician, As always Your tributes are heartfelt and mean a lot. Rip Bernie 😢
Well said Colin . Lovely words ❤
Bernie was so good! Never got the credit he was due in the mainstream music media. All you ever heard about from Whitesnake is John Sykes through to today. Oui.Super guitariste et super duo avec Micky Moody dans Whitesnake.
I saw him with Whitesnake Göta Lejon Stockholm, Sweden May 7 1981
RIP Bernie 🌹
R.I.P Bernie Marsden. May your spirit and your music live on for a long time to come!
Pete you have a big soul.
another big loss!! RIP !!🙏🙏 bernie , god bless his family and fans!!
I couldn't let the evening pass without giving Ready An' Willing a full spin. So good. Rest in peace Bernie.
Another honest heartfelt tribute to one of the great underrated guitarists of our time, many thanks Pete.
So sad to hear, what a lost.❤ Seen him in the old Whitesnake.. fantastic player..
One of the all time greats
One of the best! ❤❤❤
Very, very sad news! Rest in Peace by Bernie Marsden ..The world has lost a great master of music.
Very talented Les Paul player. Loved his stuff with early WS;with Come An Get It being one of my favorite bluesy, hard rock albums! 🎶🥃🙏.
Now Whitesnake has sadly lost Cozy Powell, Mel Galley, Jon Lord, and now Mr Bernie Marsden….you all be missed R.I.P
Saw him play with the Marsden/Moody era Whitesnake. They were great together. His solo material is well worth a listen to. Condolences to his family.
And About Time Too & The Friday Rock Show Sessions in particular, as well as last year's Trios
@@wolf1977 Yes, he had a wonderful career.
Very sad news. Very nice tribute from Pete. R. I. P.
