I’d love to hear Jimmy do this with his voice as it is NOW. The difference is night and day. This voice is pleasant but it needed depth and it needed to live a little life. Jimmy has now and he’d KILL this now.
@@vinylalbumcovers Yes. Thought Jimmy did. Never heard about him afterwards. Was actually researching Luther & did not know about the car accident even though I lived back in day. Never watched any news, tv, or movies. I did listen to all kinds of music.
OMG is right! How well I remember this song and I bought the album! It's a Luther Vandross production for sure. This guy is still singing today. All grown up and sounding good.
I had this on cassette! I never saw it on CD. "Gloria My Love" was another track - later done by Gregory Hines. Jimmy's cover of "Love Child" was AWESOME! If I won the lottery, I'd buy the rights to the "Roll It" masters and re-release it! The kid had a great style & voice!
OMG!!! Can't believe I finally get the chance to see a performance of this awesome song!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOOOOOOOOOOVE this album and anything produced by Luther Vandross!!! Does anyone have the 12" extended mix of "Roll It". PLEASE CONTACT ME!!!
A RUclips channel by the name of AshleySaysSo, covering the life and times of Luther Vandross, brought me here after covering the topic of you and your quick rise to fame after star search. I'd like to express my condolences regarding the loss of your brother on that tragic day 🙏🏿 Is there an instrumental or karaoke version of this single available? I sing karaoke pretty well; your vocal range is similar to mine, and I would love to cover this song! Again, my condolences to you and your family, and RIP Luther Vandross 🙏🏿🙏🏿
Thank you for taking the time to find me and listen to my work. I appreciate it. I don’t know if an instrumental or karaoke version exists but nowadays it’s common for djs to use software that can remove vocals from songs. I hope this helps. God Bless and I’d love to hear your version of my song. Keep singing. 👍🙏
You had so much control & an amazing tone for you to only be 14-15. I’m happy you kept going despite the unfortunate events. I can only imagine where you would’ve gone & how great your music would’ve sounded if you had been able to keep making albums with Elecktra!
@@jimmysalvemini of course! Thank you for continuing to make music for us. I checked out your most recent album & I’m a huge fan now. Can we expect any new music from you anytime in the near future?
I only learned about this track and album today while I was checking out Luther's page on Wikipedia to find some chart positions. Jimmy, you have such an amazing, flawless, soulful voice, and it's pouring out so effortlessly! It's a shame this album seems to be forgotten or neglected by whoever holds the rights/masters to it currently, and an even greater shame that your name isn't more well-known. I'm wondering, was it your decision to step away from the business after what happened or was it a one-album-deal from the get-go? I can't help but imagine how great the follow-up albums would've been if released the following years. I've also checked out "Self Expression" on Spotify, such a solid album! Any new tunes in the making by any chance? Much love, hope you're doing well these days!
Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to listen to my work. I really appreciate it. My record company at the time,Elektra Records, had long term hopes for my career. It’s something I usually don’t talk about but thank you so much for your support.

His voice was okay. Not as good as Luther made it out to be. Maybe it was him being friends with the family or perhaps something else going on. It was pretty good though.
His brother Larry who managed Jimmy was in the front seat of Luther's Mercedes and was killed from the crash. Jimmy`s injuries were minor. The Salvemini family sued Van Dross who plead no contest. Had his license suspended for a year and had to pay over $600K settling a wrongful death lawsuit.
