Caravan for me ,,the motor home is not value for money ,,but you do what you do
Thanks Steve
After 51yrs of caravanning my choice will always be a caravan, that doesn’t mean to say we’ve never looked at motorhomes because we have but some 30 yrs ago the prices were what we had payed for our house and being a Yorkshireman with short arms and deep pockets we continued with caravans. My sister and husband bought a motorhome on their retirement after years of renting statics for holidays and 4days later took off on a European tour for 6 months and they prefer the motorhome, so as you say it’s whatever you’re happy with but I also agree with if it’s towing they don’t like then why do so many spend even more to buy a car to drag behind the motorhome.
Thanks Jim
Happy easter Mark I no everyone has there own preference which is fair comment we prefer caravan once your set up you haven't got all that faffing around to pack up if you want to leave site.
Happy Easter. Thanks Paul
We’re going for a caravan. A third of the price for twice the space and we then still have the car to go into towns and cities. I personally don’t see the attraction of motorhomes.
Thanks Mark
I think it depends what you want from your vehicle. I've towed caravans for 30 years. I've recently retired and thought it was time to try motorhoming. I love that I can use it to tour around visiting different places instead of winding legs up n down and hooking back up to the car. Plus I'm using the motorhome for day visits to the coast, bike/car racing and impromptu over night stop overs. None of those I did with my caravans. Neither is better
it really is your choice. we've been caravanning for 18 yrs now , and we'd still not chose a moterhome . only because and depending on the size of moterhome , you'll always have to pack it away when going out on day trips or going to supermarkets. if it's a very large motorhome then you'll need a car or bikes as well, but as I say its everyone's choice...
Thanks Trevor
There is no way to sort this out because there is NO correct answer. Camper vans, Caravans, Motorhomes have pros and cons for each. A Motorhome or camper van are massive security risk when left in a car park because the scum know you have everything in there. What ever the customer wants as long as they are well advised is right for them.
Spot on thanks James
Caravan every time. Gives you freedom once on site. Another great video Mark. Happy Easter to you and staff. Good luck for your new site.
caravan 100% cause couldnt afford a motor home if we tried . plus love our adventures .great viddeos .
Thanks Mark and everyone for comments. I am trying to decide and finding it very difficult. I love the idea of the extra space in a caravan and also having our normal car available to use when travelling. I had an IH Ducato and that was our first and only Motorhome but had to sell it. Considering what to replace it with. I had been told that there are no water tanks in a caravan so you have to stay in campsites for a water hookup. We are planning several trips to Portugal to support a restoration project and they are quite free and easy with parking motorhomes in random places. Hoping that the kind community here can give me some tips. Thanks all, Steve and Carolina x
Some higher end models do have onboard water tanks 👍
thanks for that and i will have a look

I see it as if your staying in 1 place for a long period, get the caravan, but if you enjoy diffrent locations every other day go for the motorhome/campervan.
There are several online forums where this topic is discussed and in the end everyone has to weigh up the pros and cons for themselves. I drive a motorhome for road safety reasons and ease of setting up at a campsite - fill up with water, drive to the pitch, EHU cable in - job done! Mind you, I only choose sites where there's a bus/train service nearby. Rattles can easily be fixed - in this case a rolled up tea towel under the glass.
Thanks Joe
Would love to have both but at the moment we caravan. However I'd like a van conversion style just for visiting friends up and down the country. Also for day trips then hideaway overnight somewhere 😮
Thanks again for another great video. Have a Happy Easter. Every success for the new sales location 👍
Thanks, Happy Easter
Hi Mark. We've been towing a caravan for over 50 years. It suits us particularly when in France. Visiting the beaches as we do it is perfect, likewise when as you say you want to pop to the shops or local towns and villages for an evening. I love motorhomes as can see the good side of them but practically they are not for us. In France there are aire du camping areas for motorhomes which are often free. Perfect for touring.
On another subject about touring in Europe for any length of time is to be very mindful of the 90 day rule, thanks to Brexit , grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. We go over several times a year and were warned last year on one return trip to pay attention to the 90 day rule. Not forgetting ANY trip via air to other EU destinations count towards the 90 day rule also. As a guide to anyone who may find this helpful I use the last day of our trip and count back 180 days, then calculate how many days we have used up. I write this down should we be stopped again. The customs guy spent time looking at the pages of our passport I think trying to work it out. Bless him !
So, Its caravans for us. Happy Easter 🐣
Thanks Geoff, great point about the 90 days👍
I agree that your counting method is the most accurate. Actually, Geoff, it's not an EU thing, but the Schengen area in particular. I spend up to 90 days (November, December and January) at my holiday home in Tenerife then spend another 8/9 weeks in non-Schengen Cyprus. I am then allowed to return to Tenerife at the beginning of May. Other EU countries not in the Schengen area (where you can spend a further 90 days in each) are Bulgaria, Romania and of course Ireland, where UK Citizens have automatic right of abode.
Hi Joy. Totally agree. I was referring to France ie Schengen area. We have owed a house in France for 24 years so very used to going upto 6 times a year with ease, plus to Gran Canaria. Prior to Brexit it was so easy especially being able to take provisions to get us going until we could go shopping. Now we get held at customs in France every time whilst our passports are checked and stamped with a few cars being searched. Hopefully, when they finally get the electronic system working it may get easier. Hopefully countries within the Schengen area will realise they are losing out. Spain are already talking about it and also in a French paper the other day a French politician has raised the subject for second home owners like us. Yes we can buy a 6month visa if we want to spend money money.
In the meantime enjoy your holidays.
@@geoffwilletts4683 Brexit has been an absolute disaster for me, as I loved travelling around Europe beforehand. I doubt very much that Brussels will agree to easing Schengen access for us Brits, The Canaries argue that they are a special case as they're an ultra-peripheral region. Even then, I feel the chances of success are minimal. The ETIAS system will require every passport to be checked electronically, so I'm afraid no time will be saved at the borders to the EU, perhaps the opposite 😮💨
Brexit wasn’t about YOUR holiday
Nice one, Mark. Happy Easter to you all. 🐤🐣
Thanks Ian, Happy Easter
You seem like a decent chap.
I tow a 2008 Senator Vermont with a 2021 VW transporter 6.1. Both are perfect. Our 2 electric powerchairs live in the Transporter, we love the set up
Thanks Sue
I really hankered for a motorhome as I was so nervous about towing with our old car (skoda Superb) and used to grip the steering wheel so hard my hands went white, the we got a Volvo cx90 and oh my lord the difference is untold so no more dreaming of a motorhome for me.
the freedom to explore that comes with caravan AND the larger living and washing space that comes with a caravan swings it for us
that said i think a motorhome would be brill in europe where you can park up and make use of taxis to explore as they continent seem to be more kitted up for motorhomes (driving and parkign up)
An interesting question I said I would never tow a caravan but ex wife bought one and then daughter and I loved it and we ended up buying a nearly new one which has been a big part of her life growing up having holidays and breaks away. So for me I like being able to tow and set up then having car to go do stuff ( we do a lot of outdoor activities and live in the Highlands ) I don't like big motor homes not much easier than towing and can be a nightmare on Highland roads, do like small vans transported size but can be very expensive and I don't need a second car. We also use our caravan as a stop over for shopping and cinema in our nearest town.
Great to hear 👍
Always Caravan for me. More space, freedom to visit new places and not worry about height, weight, size of vehicle down narrow streets or worry where to park or turn around on dead end streets! No problems like that with a tow car.. great channel, enjoy watching your videos, keep them coming and best of luck with the new site, onwards & upwards👍
Thanks for your comments 👍
Motorhome all day long for me , i do a lot of fishing and it gives me the option to tow my boat behind or throw the kayaks inside . Most of our trips in the Motorhome are 1 or 2 nights or a tour with 4 or 5 one night stays , so for ease of set/pack up with the drop down bed it wins . I also have a 70kg dog so it gives him more space when travelling. I often use ferry crossings where its also a bonus of not needing to tow . If we are staying in one location for a week we tend to just get an air bnb so i cant really see where a caravan would benefit our style of travel . I do see why people love to have the car there on a long stay but i dont see why having a caravan is an advantage if your staying static. Im not a hater as im actually on the fence when it comes to buying a red lion caravans cub but i think its purely for the panoramic glass roof as im a bit of an amatuer astronomer , i think if i see one for sale used its a done deal and im a part time caravaner
I like the idea of a camper van and a motor home but having a caravan is more practical to me there half the cost and you get more space in a caravan I’m in both camps great video good advice and informative
Thanks 👍
Caravan owners on our 4th van now started with a 700 quid fleetwood Colchester back in 1998 and have only just traded in our Avondale landranger for a Bailey Cartergena, looked at a motorhome but the idea of another lot of Tax,mot, and insurance for something that could be sat unused for a few months swayed us towards another Caravan
Thanks Garrie
Great video once again. And the answer to your question is......!! Who knows?? Everyone likes different things. We started with a tent, then a trailer tent, then a caravan but have ended up with a motorhome, but each to their own.
Thanks Patrick, very true
We have had the both and would never go back to a motor home I tow a lot of stuff during the working week so I’m quite happy to tow where other people find it stressful, it’s just the on site packing away to go and see thing plus most car park now down our way have barriers to stop motorhomes
Very true Barry
hi mark the comment on your motor homes, i prefer a caravan over a campervan, given in mind that ive done it all from trailer tenting, camping, motorhomes and caravanning, caravans will always be my #1 choice for anything weither it touring a nice 2 week holiday
Thanks Nigel
Done both but always go back to the caravan, no contest for me.
Thanks Phil
Hi Mark
We're on our 2nd caravan. Just had another week in the fantastic fully serviced site at Waleswood in the Rother Valley. It's not my favourite thing to hitch the 2 tonne caravan up BUT there were a number of motorhomes at the site and most with awnings..meaning they were stuck there. Not for us as we like to visit rhe surrounding area and shop. We visited in 5 days ... Wollaton Natural History museum in Nottingham, Brodsworth House nr Doncaster, Sheffield Natural History museum with ancient Egyptian artefacts (not sure how easy that would be for city centre parking with a motorhome after you've dismantled the awning?) , Hardwick Hall , Creswell Caves museum, Aldi , Sainsburys to top up on booze, etc.
On the other hand my brother sold his caravan at the peak of prices a couple of years ago for more than he paid years before , bought a cheap campervan , his now wife retrimmed it , he aerviced it and sorted out all the niggles and they trapzed off from Doncaster to Balmoral on their first outing with a view to visit the European WW2 dams next year.
Caravan gets my vote for the freedom once on site just the hassle of hitching up as a negative.
Thumbs up for the vid... great channel , many thanks!
Thanks for your comments 👍
If you have a family gotta be a caravan surely, motorhome for a couple scan see the apeal
Hi Mark, the wife asked me the same sort of question last year. Could we have a campervan? We popped into VW van centre where they had a transporter conversion, £64,000. We could have a caravan for a lot less? Our car at the time, nissan juke, could tow but the clutch would be on the floor. Eventually, we got a little alpine 2 , which is better kitted out than any little camper, car we drive now 2013 RR evoque, together they're about £30,000, u couldn't buy a 2018 motorhome, kitted out like our little sprite for £30,000?
Thanks Jeremy 👍
You cannot compare a caravan to a motorhome. It’s horses for courses. We go away and stay on the one site for the duration of our holiday, so caravan suits us as we have the car to nip out for anything we need. If you tour and have a couple of day here and a couple of days there and so on then the motorhome is the better bet. What I don’t understand is people who tow a car with a motorhome you might just as well have a caravan. 2:23
Thanks Bob
The advantage of a caravan is that you get much more for your money than a campervan which are often over priced, also with a caravan you can use it for a base whilst you use your car to travel around the area, but I accept it is not everyone who want to tow.
Thanks Peter
Tent and a camping stove in a backpack . Much cheaper just can not get very far.
Had both and our travel style suits a motorhome now but used to suit the caravan .
Thanks Martin
I really like the motorhome I just think they are more catered towards the European travel… I don’t really see the benefit in the UK👍
Mark if you want to see an area like Devon over a weeks holiday and move on every day Motorhome if you want to go to area and stay put for week’s holiday caravan. Could not be assed to keep leavening Motorhome every day so Caravan for me.
Thanks Colin
I have a Vito camper van I use every day that I tow a lunar eclipse behind just can’t seem to let my old van go
Thanks Antony
Were currently looking at both I want a motohome to be able to tour Europe, the Mrs wants a caravan for the space and the value for money.....its a tough 1 in all honesty, could i take a caravan to Europe? Is the expense to do it worth it?
Mark, same dilemma last year, Motorhome or caravan!!?? For us as a family, the freedom of arriving at a site, unhitching, drive wherever we like without having to pack everything up each trip. Caravan for us. But when the kids have grown up, I can see the appeal of a Motorhome for a trip around Europe🎉
Thanks Mark
Caravan!! although I can definitely see the attraction for a motorhome. 😂
Thanks Sheena
Caravan every time, more space once pitched you have tow car for travel. What some people pay for motorhome lol, you can get a cracking caravan and tow car if required. Of course you get motor home brigade bleating I don't like towing a caravan but tow a small car on the back lol 😂😂.
When they have to go out they have to pack everything away again and again 😂 strewth I want to relax on holiday not packing and unpacking every day
Caravan, think I'd go insane if I had to take the entire family just to go get 4 pints of milk and a loaf
Thanks Ste
Is it worth keeping a couple of motorhomes to rent out, adds another part to the business, a renter may buy in the future.
Yes good idea. Thanks Marty
Motorhome all the way for me 👌
Thanks 👍
Mark caravan Alda’s long.
caravan and motorhome arguing which is best............5th wheeler turns up
Ahhh I know where you're second base will be now, down Cannock Rd!
Yes Gailey island hopefully 🤞
@@thecaravanplace aaahhh wasn't where I was thinking, I thought Signature RV place when you said about big RV motorhomes.. you're looking at Dobbies.. you love a garden centre site 😉 makes sense though, people will naturally come for a nosey after they have been to a garden centre, everytime I come down to your current site there is always a customer/potential customer looking around!
I know where you're going now mark
Thanks Wayne, you spotted it lol
