I took a line off my vw years back . One hell of an air leek , it was rapping like a bugger, bleed the fuel line over and over . Over course of a couple hours . Finally got the air out . On diesels , for sure as you are saying , very important . Thanks for the great video !! And thanks for showing us his picture ! Keep his memory alive by blowing the horns , I am sure where he is , he smiles each and every time !!!
+Rusty “rustyglovebox” Glovebox I run a few of the 7.3 engines. I have two of the 95 up electronic engines, but I prefer the old manuals. As long as I am alive, Larry won't be forgotten.. Thanks for watching..
lol bro sick idea. i also work with low pressure systems and use a little air pump, a little female air fitting on the end and can use a chuck with q cone shaped nozzle and jam it into the system and look for spray/mist somewhere. the first thing to blow out if you overpressure the system is the lift pump so keep the psi low lol. i like you clear hose idea i will have to try that sometime have plenty of hose floating around. thanks for sharing sir
Great story of respect and a tribute to your friend. This youtube helped me, gave me an idea how to check my CAT 3126 air problem, simple idea but didn't think of it. Thank you.
Great video as usual Jonathan. You are inspiring most of us, myself, I cant wait to get my hobby shop built . My tools have been idle to long. With your experience and knowledge, its good to know just click on a video and usually you have done this and that. Right on with the filming, keep them coming. Thumbs up !
Johnathan thanks for the vid I have one of the 7.3 non turbos and I finally won the air in the fuel line battle it's a lot of satisfaction to walk out when it's 15 or so degrees and have if start in 2 turns of the engine. Love just hearing them run, when there's something heavy to pull or haul around the shop that's my go to. Ron
Just a question , school buses can usually be picked up quite reasonable. Is it right to assume they make great parts platforms for their Diesel engines transmissions and as you use body parts ?
pressure the line and spray with soapy water, or plug the line and pressure with air with a gauge to show leak down while on the frame. thanks for posting.
Hi thanks for the video, my bmw 530d e60 has fuel coming from fuel pump in tank and stops by high pressure diesel pump! The high pressure diesel pump doesn't send it to the common rail. Any idea? Car cranks but won't start. Scan it and get CODE: 4B90 RAIL MONITORING ON ENGINE START.
Question, if the injector pump "pops" the injector and sprays fuel into the cylinder and the residual is returned to the fuel tank via the return lines, why does air in the return lines cause a problem?
DRA5136 cavitation where the tiny air bubbles collapses/implosions which creates heat and rapid wear and tear on the pumps and injectors creating a crappy runnig engine!
You know I'm the same age as your "Friend or Step Dad" I was born July 20, 1949 and its 11-12-2015 so I'm try'n to stay around a little while more. (???) Anyway I had an 0l Peterbilt semi truck that had some air line that the "Inter-liner" of the hose separated on the inside and was letting the line leak believe it or not. It took a lot of time to ever find that one -- Weeks in fact.
+Danny Walker I miss Larry every day! I called him Pops and I learned a lot about the wrecker business from him. He was a parachute rigger and dropped tanks and other big stuff from airplanes. My father passed away when I was 8, so I didn't have a lot of guidance from anyone. A good wife and good friends that were much older than me straightened me out. The problem with this truck is that it was not consistent. Some times it would go 20 miles and other times 20 feet, could have been the same problem inside the line, possibly were that crimp was. I always told Pops that he didn't have to live forever, just longer than me and I am telling you the same thing! Thanks for watching...
He-he, Well I'm Not in good health at all. Had a heart attack & a light stoke & sugar diabetes & Several other things adding to my list. ha-ha. BUT, I know the Lord Thy God and I Take A lot of comfort in that. I am ready anytime he wants me home. Amen. I Pray for All the people in the world daily too.
+Danny Walker Sorry Danny, but there are only so many folks that are willing to watch this old hillbillys videos and you are one of them, so you are not allowed to go anywhere!! Will keep you in our prayers!! And all the people in the world need prayers for sure, this place sure aint what it use to be! God Bless You and Yours!
@@jonathanw4942 Just put a new filter on this morning, it was time for one anyway. When I took it off air was hissing out, not sure if I'm suckin air or the system was pressurized. It only sputters in L & 1 now, but has white smoke. Putting on a new lift pump I have tucked away to see if it fixes the issue.
What a beautiful story with those airhorns. Priceless. Big smiles your way
Thank you for the backstory on the horns... beautiful!

That is rather cool, that hitting the horn button makes you think of someone who was special in your life.
Those 7.3 are good ole engines. Air can be a bear at times , glad you found it. Good to remember ole friends like Mr Newton . Take care

Was that line an air hose or what was the difference?

where is the problem, the fuel line leaking before the pump or after the pump?
good info Im installing a crate 7.3 IDI non T on my small wrecker working on air leaks now Thanks
Wonderful vid, thank you so much, I'm looking for air leak in an Isuzu Elf truck with 2.8L 4JB1. Same situation, where is it?
fyi, that is the lift pump (on the side of the block). the transfer pump would be from tank to tank
Would u have to make that fuel line?
Good video and god bless our troops
