    There was a family in my neighborhood when I was growing up that had four teenage sons and one young surprise daughter. That daughter was the most pampered, protected girl in the world. Her brothers would do anything for her. On Christmas Eve one year, they waited until she went to bed and then built a two-story tall snowman that she would see when she looked out her 2nd story bedroom window in the morning. It was impressive, as were the ramps they had to make to get those top snowballs on. Anyway, this reminds me of that family. No one is messing with that little girl.

      Well give them a few years and they won't have an issue on tiring out the baby for naps and the doggos will need a little less exercise from the parents. And if they have a 2nd or maybe even a 3rd kid that's less and less exercise from the parents as the kids can have more play time with the doggos.

    Edit: Since there was some confusion about this, our rescue isn't a puppy, she's 6 years old and our's is her 4th (and final) home. I just refer to dogs as "pups" from time to time. I apologize for any misunderstanding my use of that term may have caused.

A dog is anyone's best friend! This is why I have had dogs my entire life because they will do anything to protect their humans and vice versa where the humans will do anything to protect their dogs! Having a dog in your life is the best thing that could ever happen to you because trust me they will do anything to keep you company and they are also great companions!

    They clearly love their dogs but they don’t let that love blind them to the dangers of having a baby around dogs (unattended). I like how they slowly, over the course of several months introduced the baby to the dogs and how they never leave the baby alone with the dogs. Responsible parenting.

      Yep, and German Shepherds are unpredictable. One of my friends has a scar on her arm from a Shepherd that belonged to a family she used to babysit for. Had what she thought was a great relationship with the dog until one day it just aggressively latched onto her arm and wouldn't let go. She ended up in the emergency room. Seeing an infant surrounded by 5 Shepherds is a little frightening tbh............

    • @birdieorourke5507
      @birdieorourke5507 Год назад +16

      @@BullyG1 This is what I would rate as child neglect, drinking dog bowl water, eating dog food, mimicking dogs, then there is the ecoli on their mouths, licking her, hairs all over the place and air born, the smell in that house must be brutal and the danger off an unpredictable dog, a dog fight, the pecking order, the pure ignorance of parents 🙄 is pretty clear. So, we see she survived up to this point but, who's pushing their luck hope child or dogs don't EVER have a bad day. People who keep lots of dogs should NOT have children if they rear child like the dogs. End of story.

We went to a dog park one day and another dog started to jump on my youngest daughter trying to nip and Marley rushes over and charges the other dog and stands in-between them. He was like, "That's my sister you're messing with." My daughter was a little annoyed that the owner did nothing but that's some people for you. Anyway, shepherds are so loyal and fierce. But I'm glad mama never leaves her unattended with them. I'd go a little further and pick up those dog bowls with food and only put them down when it's time to eat. They can choke on the kibble. I was constantly picking up kibble all over our kitchen after Marley ate when my daughters were little.

I remember my first dog, Tubby, an old Irish setter that hated gunshots. Anyway, I grew up with Tubby till I was about 7 and was there for his twilight years. I loved him and his gentleness but just as important; I saw how he could no longer keep up with I, the other kids, or any of the younger dogs we took in. Was probably the first real lesson I had on what growing old actually meant and that death was natural. Was glad to have him in my life and glad in hindsight on the lessons he could teach me.

    Thank for sharing! Love German Shepherds. They are VERY good with children and d babies and they do know the difference! I grew up in a large family the oldest of 6 siblings. We had a German Shepherd and he was very good with us and all of our friends. The best dogs in the world!

    I was told that i as a toddler loved to sleep with our dog in his dog house, and followed him always around, so somewhat relatable. My parents got our dog as a puppy as I was 6 months old, they came to the conclusion that I was just another playmate for him. Later, as he was bigger than me, he was super protective of me.

    Wolves (by extension Dogs) love babies, moms lost their babies also known to adopt babies of other animals. One of many reasons you see sometimes dogs are used in Zoo to keep baby animals company.

    German Shepherds are the greatest dogs. My dad was a police dog handler & contrary to some opinions, the dogs are just regular family dogs when off duty. I grew up with my dads first retired GS, his working GS & our normal pet collie. I did all the things that little did, as well as work out how to open the big dog kennel at the end of the garden. Eating their food & playing with their water- yup. One of our dogs even grabbed my sledge rope and pulled me along. He didn’t like anyone else doing it. Lol. It was like I had my own husky. Almost. My brother did all the same stuff too. I think kids learn from everything around them, not just the adults.
    Even when dad retired, he carried on having rescue Shepherds. Being disabled I need dogs with a little less muscle. So it was sad to realise I might never have another GS in my life unless my son starts keeping them. I say less muscle, how silly of me. I’ve swapped that for hyperactive Springer Spaniel nutcases & stubbornly, bullying affectionate dogs. My spaniel is currently in his usual spot laying his head on my feet and my bullying affectionate Bavarian Hound mix is currently snuggled right alongside me laying his head on my shoulder. Basically I’m stuffed if I need to eat or pee. When I say he’s a bully, if I ignore him or don’t scratch him in the right place he will either nudge with his nose until you get the right spot, grab, yes actually grab with his prehensile claws, and move your arm until your in the correct position or he will use said claws to climb over me until I take notice. He’s pretty much GS sized. But he is a gentle old soul really & is a rescue from an Eastern European kill shelter. He is scarred from nose to tail. We don’t know his back story, but we figure it’s not good and don’t begrudge him the love he obviously craves. We got my spaniel as a puppy. He was the result of an unwanted farm dog pregnancy. So not exactly a rescue. But the pups would have gone to a rescue if no one bought them. I nearly got two, but someone enquired and I let the other go to them. He is awesome, always by my side, but not overly in need of affection. He wakes me with kisses, notifies me when it’s dead on 8am & 4pm for food, by pouncing on me and giving me a kiss.
    It took them all of twenty minutes to work out my daughters baby is a mini human and then they started in with the love and protection. Sadly, my daughter doesn’t live close & so I’m curious how the dogs will deal with seeing him at different stages of babyhood & toddlerness. I think it’s going to be fun. Because they are big and boisterous, I won’t be leaving them alone with the baby. But I think we are in for a fun time when he starts walking lol. ❤

      GSD's are one of the most intelligent canine breeds and they live for the mission. Give a GSD an assignment and they're gonna figure out a way to get the job done. If the assignment is "protect baby" then that baby is the safest little girl in the neighborhood.
