How can you compete with a car manufacturer who pay their employees 60 % of their competitors and no import tax on their car as well as complete tax breaks from the Chinese government to specifically undercut competitors/competition in other countries . Nissan is Japanese whose cars tend to be more pricy however there are many Chevys that are more expensive than Nissan. None the less a person can buy a Chinese import for $12k brand new. When a tariff is placed on the Chinese import, China doesn't pay a dime of it. The price is included in the purchase of the car and the corrupt government gets the money from a poor person who couldn't afford a Chevy. FACTS.

Not necessarily. A portion of the cost ends up burdening the consumer but what generally happens is that the consumer just buys a different product which means imports slow down. Which is the entire purpose.
