Oda: So, what did you think about chapter 1099? Goofy: I think it gave me terminal depression Oda: Oh, sorry about that... would it help if I brought back Nico Robin with the cowboy hat next chapter? Goofy: "sniff" yes please...
When Kuma said to Bonney Thank you for being born Powerful shit right there especially if you remember Ace dying words and his journey to discover why was he born just to be hated for his father's infamous name 1099 foreshadowed that Kuma would have accepted a deal with the devil
It is so heavy, with those words he's making sure that Bonney doesn't feel responsible for her father's death if she finds out, or her mother's... becouse they both loved her, and never blamed her...
I like to imagine that jim isnt here because he wants to, but because you kidnapped him and forced him to get caught up. Jim: "hey mugi what are you doing here-" Mugi: "does this rag smell funny to you?"
The crazy thing about the end of this chapter is that Kuma is in East Blue. That last panel shows Fuusha Village. What could he be doing there??? What is the government asking him to do?? This chapter was incredible and I think the next one will continue to connect dots we didn't even think about.
I can't remember if it's been explicitly said that Ace took down a warlord. But we do know that before he joined the Whitebeards, he was offered the warlord position himself, so it makes sense. He obviously turned it down though because iirc he didn't want to be tied to the government and have them dig more into his past.
you're like the only OPtuber who waits till sunday when the leaks come out on wednesday and it genuinely doesn't take away from it, thanks for showing us that it's still feasible and that everyone else doesn't actually have to rush to get their shit out like they say they do lol
You completely missed, that Kuma is at Foosha Village with Luffy still on the island. Maybe we see the reason, why Kuma spared and helped Luffy. My theory is, that the WG send Kuma to either capture Luffy or get info on the person, who got the Gumi Gumi no Mi, or more info on what Shanks did with the Gumi Gumi no Mi. Either way he will encounter Luffy and see his potential in becoming Nika. Kuma will spare Luffy, take his memories and start shielding him from the WG as long as possible. Making Kuma an important aspect of Luffy of awakening Nika. Even if Kuma will never see Gear 5 or Luffy truly becoming Joyboy... He knows, that he is there and helped him.
At this point I think the Warlord system was more a way to pick out pirates they don't want to deal with anymore. Like they recruited Moria just so they could keep Florida and Florida Man away from destroying anything important.
God I love seeing my favorite character "Nico Robin With The Cowboy Hat" Ngl Kuma/Bonney Piece has to be the most depressing shit I've seen in a while. Depression/10 chapter
Another thing a lot of people have brought up is that everyone is doing the nika dance in that one panel. Maybe this is a sign that Kizaru might pull a Kuzan and leave the marines soon?
all jokes aside, Foxy's devil fruit is broken, and the idea of him with haki is scary. as goofy as he is the dude wasn't a pushover, hes a sad backstory away from becoming a threat
I agree with basically everything you said about 1098 i really enjoyed your review of it and im enjoying this double review . And i think its awesome how you and Jimmy point out cameos of characters like those 2 guys from the coluseum and Drake. but alpha is not kalifa as Alpha is super tall, like twice the height of the normal doctors beside her and kalifa should be in water 7 rn as Icebergs secretary
This has easily been one of, if not the best backstory in all of one piece. Even so, I really hope that at least by the end of next chapter we are back on Egghead
Well Ace fighting Warlords isn't anything new. You can See Jinbei there who he fought to a standstill, but its implied that the one they're referring to is no longer around so its probably not him
About Ace and the Warlord, the only thing i belive whe knew before this chapter is that at some point Ace was offered to become one, but refused. Probably after he took down one of the previous members? In his first years before joining Whitebeard he was known to be the "super Rookie" or to mess with big pirates all the time. He even fought Jinbe to a stalemate.
I think the Kumachi is a weird translation stutter. In Japanese, -Chi is a suffix added to a name, like -San, usually for someone you respect deeply and are addressing particularly formally according to some sources. Others suggest it's a different form of -Chan often specifically used by young girls. It's been a few years so I'm not sure which is correct, but context makes me lean towards the second one
Kumachii ( In hiragana くまちー) The -chii is kind of a silly way to say "chan". Kinda like a child mispronouncing things, though they may do it on purpose just to sound cute. Anyway, It's a way to turn someone's name into a nickname. Sometimes shortening a longer name and adding chi or cchi to the end. Camie the mermaid does this to everyone. Another example of someones name being adjusted is Kacchan from BNHA, which went from Katsuki to Kacchan. In the case of shortening a name, the type of letter being adjusted often determines whether the name will have a glottal stop or not (cchan vs chan). It can come off as a bit juvenile, but it is definitely a term of endearment and tends to make either the nicknamer or nicknamed seem very cute. Ginny gave Kuma the name first, and then it just stuck with everyone else on Sorbet because Kuma has a very soft and kind nature to those who call him that. Edit: wrote it wrong first, oops. The chii has an enlognated i vowel, for funsies. Again just playing with letters in a nickname to make them sound cute afaict.
The panel side by side from POV up above looking over on the left side of the page Bonney undergoing surgery and on the right Kuma being transformed into a cyborg That was so bittersweet As she was gaining more and more health to finally fully be alive under the sun like fishmen dream to do Her father was slowly doing the opposite losing more and more humanity and mind And they never met halfway through Her being healthy under the sun And him still capable of feeling and having memories to understand how much he loves her When she was fully healthy he was far too lost emptied of his will and consciousness When he was still sentient and human she wasn't fully healthy yet

Ace fought against previous giraffe fruit user in his own side story piece, and that one was supposedly the warlord he went up against. So kaku + was a warlord he beat.
in aces light novel it was revealed he took out a warlord as a rookie and offered a spot but said no so kuma took that spot instead. we're still waiting to find out who the warlord was and what happened
Ace didn’t take out a warlord I don’t think, it was most likely referring how they tried to recruit him but he said no, and then fought jimbei for the week.
Found it odd that the SMARTEST MAN in the verse didn't once think that his new soldiers would be used for evil by the world government. And THEN creates the Mother Flame.
The warlord that Ace beat was Jinbe, we did get mention of that when Jinbe told luffy that him and Ace fought for like a day or so if i remember correctly
Its funny they call Kuma a tyrant because in Ancient greece, the tyrants the arose for the most part took power and made their polis better. If im not mistaken, in ancient Greece Tyrant didnt have the negative connotions, it just meant a sole ruler.
So, I think it's obvious that Kuma puts the pieces together about Luffy and Nika probably next chapter, but man I hope Shanks has something to do with it. Give me confirmation that Shanks knew the truth about that fruit so I can start theorizing why he had the god damned Nika Devil Fruit! He was up to something with that I know it!
litttle late so someone probably already said- Ace’s history was gone into during the marineford war arc, including that he defeated a warlord before joining whitebeard

Kuma really is the most selfless character in OP. I doubt anyone could beat his acts of pure kindness and empathy.
Kuma saying, "People change," is in response to dragon saying, you're wearing a lot of hats, king, tyrant, pirate."
