i just got this antenna based on all the great youtube reviews and no matter where i placed it i only got half the channels that should be available. took it back. i bought a cheaper $29 RCA SLIVR amplified antenna and got them all.
I was disappointed with the Mohu and wan't even going to try another brand. thought i'd have to go with an outdoor one. But I picked this up at Walmart just today actually. There are only about 15 channels in the Providence area, more if i tried an outdoor antenna to get Boston. The Mohu only picked up about 9 of them. This one picked up them all. www.walmart.com/ip/RCA-SLIVR-Amplified-Indoor-Flat-HDTV-Antenna-Multi-Directional/167111340
Yes. I tried the leaf a few spots, even in the window facing the right direction. The RCA antenna I just propped up on top of the entertainment center. When I saw how well it worked I hung it in the wall behind it to hide out of view. I guess all the indoor antennas are hit or miss per location but I’m keeping this RCA
It’s all about the placement of the antenna!!!! That is what I’m NOT looking forward to. Lol. But no pain no gain! And writing that cable check every month is becoming even MORE painful… that is why I am here. Great video-thank you.
This is still my favorite brand antenna....I own this leaf 50 & Sky 60.....they both provide excellent reception ....another good brand is Clear stream As long as you have a large window facing the direction of local towers or run your cable outside.....you should have no problem picking up 35 - 50 channels....
I bought a less expensive antenna and I wasn’t getting all the channels. I bought the same one that you have the Mohu The same mileage range and they works great. There were some channels I wasn’t picking up but once I moved it around and I found a good spot I kept it there. One last thing weather doesn’t seem to affect the signal where I live. I am in Tampa Florida. I’ll have to wait and see when the thunderstorm season arrives during the summer months if my antenna signal is affected or not.
That is good to hear. A lot of people were saying that they got less expensive ones and were able to pick up more channels. I have been debating on checking out those options but, good to hear that you get a little more for the price.
I just purchased this antenna. The channels that I receive are perfect. The only problem is that I don't receive any channels under channel 6. The box clearly states that it is high vhf not low vhf which excludes Fox and a local NBC affiliate of channel 2.1. I have determined that I need a yagi style directional antenna to receive channel 2.1. In an attempt to receive channel 2.1 I will try to build one.
I live in Idaho Falls. I get 20 channels with mine. The amplifier broke so I replaced the amplifier. My weakest signal is PBS but it comes in clear 90 percent of the time.
I bought a MOHU LEAF (30-40 mile range) that was refurbished from Walmart. It cost $21 and I was able to install it and yes, it works! It picks up about 20 channels on a newer digital tv! Was able to get rid of the cable tv which was my goal. However, these do not work on an older analog tv set unfortunately. I am trying different things to get it to work as the quality of the display is far better. Any tips to get the old tv to work? It is a Panasonic PV-M20F8 mad in 1998 and has been used very little. I hate the idea of recycling this! Thank you!
For older TVs that can not take a digital signal you will need a digital tv converter box. There are a few options that can be found here: amzn.to/2MMGPrA. It will be a one time fee to buy it, but one you have it your older TV will be able to under stand a digital signal.
looks like it has copper tape in it ,just an idea try Danny S. Hodges antennas you can make one for about 20.00 bucks they work from 60 miles to 150 miles and his has actual real cable ag6 cable.
Do most people get around 40 channels? I recently rescanned my TV and got about 120 in the LA market using a cheaper antenna without an amplifier, although several channels are duplicates, and a handful are mainly for religious stuff and infomercials. still, a lot of programming.
For anyone that has used this antenna. Should this antenna be set up so you have it set up perpendicular to the direction of the transmitter antenna? I know that it claims to be omnidirectional, but have you noticed a difference when oriented "flat-face" towards the transmitters? Thanks.
+Pablo Mendoza KI7DBV The issue with setting it up facing the direction of the transmitting antenna is that while it might to do that for one channel not all channels are coming from that broadcast antenna. So if you set it up facing one you might get super picture from it but not the other channels. That's why you need to play with it to find the sweet spot.
With HD tv usually your either going to get the station or your not ... it will break up if it's not strong but as for reception .. it's going to work or not ... not like the old analog tv signals where you could experience snow .. HD won't do that ... nice review tho .. thanks
It is very dependent on your location to the tower that broadcasts them. In my case no. However, you can check your location by using this handy map: www.fcc.gov/media/engineering/dtvmaps
+Wanderer001 You took this video at your house? You said that you are staying in an apartment and the video shows that it looks like that you are staying in a regular Normal house. Where did you take the shooting?
I'm in a basement but my current antenna is in a window seal but the window is block thickness and next to another building but it has a vent screen area. It's in and out depending on the time to me ok some in and out other times. I would need a cable of 50 feet or more to get it to the best reception which would be on the 1st floor. LOL
Antennae longer than 50 feet generally are not fully effective. Try it outside the window in question to see what happens, or find an unobstructed side of the casa.
It could, but it will depend on a lot of factors. I have a small hill that blocks a good chunk of sky but it works for me. However, it did take a little bit of playing with it to find the sweet spot. It also depends on how far away for the towers you are.
I live up nouth in the middle of no where does any one know if this would work in a place like this my old antenna does not work up here it's a flat RCA box
+Eric Just A Sinner If it out in the middle of no where I am going to day no. This only has a 50 mile range. So if you are more the 50 miles away from the broadcast tower it is it going to work. There are others that have longer range that you could look in to.
Yep just a pretty looking antenna. I been thru about 6 different types and I bought the GE Optima curved antenna with reflector and I use the Mohu jolt amp with it and it kicks ass. That is best antenna I tried. Mohu is subpar.
This guy repeated himself in the beginning so much it was irritating. Summarize & state your points, and close. He kept talking about how thin it is, then used paper as if we can't see how thin it is for ourselves, etc. Being concise, direct to the point, or being succint, are secrets to a good presentation. We can see that it is thin, why do you have to keep harping on that point??? We heard you already. Move on to the next informative point. Your audience isn't as stupid as you may think. Keep your Ques in front of you, and not to the side. I could see you occasionally looking to the side while talking. That can be distracting. Anyway, kudos for at least trying. Btw, I own 3 of this antenna. FYI: Watch out for kinks, or separation where the cable shield cover meets the metal connectors. They can be a major source of signal loss. Best Wishes.
The cut away with the actual sheet of paper was more about showing the size. I do realize that talking about how thin it is during that segment does come across as repetitive.
you will have to play with it every day lol love mine but on Monday if the sun is out I have one spot every day depending on weather you will have to move it don't ever attach it you will have to move it allot
+Shawn M. My brother doesn't regret switching from Ps4 to Xbox... the only reason I mentioned PS4 is because it appears to be the console of choice for Dark Souls III players.

+Madrew Swanson Brewer I have not looked into outdoor multi directional antennas with that kind of range. Most are about 60 miles. There are some larger ones out there but I could not speak to how good they are.
Edward Caissie+ Yup, a lot of wasted time. If this is to be a thorough instructional video he should have shown actual coax connection to back of TV, amplifier to coax, and connection to power source, plug to outlet or USB adaptor to TV.

Agree.....works good enough for me......beats paying cable or Direct TV bill $ 80.00. month.....
I tried both the white and black side on my front window. It gets more and better reception if the white side faces outside on the window.
You could give us a general ideas as to how far from the city (antennas) you are, that makes it more informative, thank you.
43 miles.
Great video dude. That was really informative. I had the same concerns but you answered all my question about this product.
+c230benzito Happy I could help.
Very informative and helpful video plus additional info below it. Looking for new antennas and was considering this one. Thanks.
+Chip Clarke happy to help.
Thanks for the clear demonstations
Don't you think you would put on the amplifier from the get go since that's what it is there for to amplify ? Then take it from there.
Yes, but for testing purposes got to try it without too.
30 miles from the towers get 60+ channels and the antenna is paintable to match your decor. In Kentucky , I paid $6.00 on ebay .

You can use a RG6 cable on this.
I have a leaf that does not have an amplifier. Will any amplifier work with this model?
Should be no issue. You do not need to use a Mohu branded amplifier to get it to work.
winegard LNA 100 best amp for me I tried. outperforms Mohu and less noise.
I just ordered one from Amazon. I hope this works. Thanks for the information.
Thanks for the vid! Just got a Moho 50 from Amazon. Hope it works. Thumbs up!

Hi, great video.
I'm considering buying this product and I just have one question did you pickup fox news and cnn channel? Thank you.
It is very dependent on your location to the tower that broadcasts them. In my case no. However, you can check your location by using this handy map: www.fcc.gov/media/engineering/dtvmaps
Wanderer001

CNN is not an OTA channel.
can you put this out side that with on a dish
This is only an indoor model. They do make specific outdoor ones.
Yes, but you'd have to protec the metal parts from rusting.
+Wanderer001 You took this video at your house? You said that you are staying in an apartment and the video shows that it looks like that you are staying in a regular Normal house. Where did you take the shooting?
No this was in an apartment. Right where I live.
I'm in a basement but my current antenna is in a window seal but the window is block thickness and next to another building but it has a vent screen area. It's in and out depending on the time to me ok some in and out other times. I would need a cable of 50 feet or more to get it to the best reception which would be on the 1st floor. LOL

Try it outside the window in question to see what happens, or find an unobstructed side of the casa.
It is necessary to extend the coaxial cable to set it up or for getting a better reception??
+brainaholic I had no need to extend the coax cable to get a good reception. The one that was provided was good enough for me.
Generally the longer the cable is the weaker the signal is when it gets to the TV. Ideally you want a cable the exact length.
Is this compatible with a 4k smart tv?
+Michael R Yes it would work just fine. But you are not going to see a 4k show. 1080hd would be max.
Will this indoor antenna work inside a mobile home? I don't want to install an outdoor antenna.
I live in a mobile home and it works almost as well as the big outdoor antenna.
does it work in areas where there are lots of small hills and valleys??
It could, but it will depend on a lot of factors. I have a small hill that blocks a good chunk of sky but it works for me. However, it did take a little bit of playing with it to find the sweet spot. It also depends on how far away for the towers you are.
If I am to use the hook & loop tabs, where do I put the sticky part to?
+Victor Ojo either sticky part goes on the antenna and the wall. It does not matter which part of the hook and loop part goes where.
How do I know how much of a mile radius I need? Its not working for me. I have a 30 miles one.
+SquidMannn | Redstone Master Best way is to check a antenna map. I recommend this one; transition.fcc.gov/mb/engineering/dtvmaps/
Wanderer001 Yup turns out the closest was 16 miles away. I got it to work on my other tv :D
Nice instructional video.
When you mentioned to avoid the copyright. What did you mean about that?
+Victor Ojo Showing works in a video that you monetize can have the rights holder of the work claim that you have used there properties to make money.
Oh okay. Thank you for the response.
Does this work only with a smart tv?
I believe it works for every tv
+Mar Mac Any TV with coax input.
Great tutorial I'm buying one!
what movie is that at 12:21 for channel 5.2?
Neil oppa no idea.
I live up nouth in the middle of no where does any one know if this would work in a place like this my old antenna does not work up here it's a flat RCA box

how can I have one Mohu Leaf 50 Indoor Amplified HDTV Antenna
You may need a splitter if I understand your question correctly.
How is the news copyrighted?
Original broadcast rights and all that better not to take any chances.
Awesome
i notice you dont get cw channel 11 why is that
Depends on placement of the antenna vs the tower and how far away you are. I do not watch CW so I was not worried that it did not show up.
where do you get the sticky tac?
+Joe Christl amzn.to/1PC2JpD or most hardware, craft stores would have it.

Wow, about $63 USD?! That's too much for an antenna.
+orestesdd Better to wait for a sale. Then you can pick it up for around $30. Part of why I did not get one sooner was that price.
Wanderer001 Thank you.
+orestesdd not if it allows one to rid of a cable service... very cheap
Where are channels 7, 11, and 13?
+Juliaflo Depending on your geographic location and placement of the antenna the channels you get may vary.

How would it work with a PS4?
+Spencer Andersen It would need yo have a coax port to work.
Wanderer001 I guess it doesn't matter-- you're hooking it up to the TV anyway so the PS4 is unnecessary.
It wouldn't, but you can get an adapter for your xbox one. Another thing the ps4 can't do.
+Shawn M. My brother doesn't regret switching from Ps4 to Xbox... the only reason I mentioned PS4 is because it appears to be the console of choice for Dark Souls III players.

whats the Mileage
+Madrew Swanson Brewer This is the 50 mile range antenna. So it should be able to pick up signals from towers 50 miles away.
This isn;t that good. I got it and can't get regular stations nbc, abc and cbs.
It is dependent on location. Best thing to do is use this map to see what channels you can expect to get. www.fcc.gov/media/engineering/dtvmaps

all it takes is one windy day and swaying tree branches to reduce this and most other antennas to junk. that's what they don't tell you.
That’s not exactly true. I’ve used antennas with lots of wind and rain before, and noticed absolutely no difference
Get to it
need 150 miles
+Madrew Swanson Brewer I have not looked into outdoor multi directional antennas with that kind of range. Most are about 60 miles. There are some larger ones out there but I could not speak to how good they are.
+Wanderer001 need 75 miles range

Yup, a lot of wasted time. If this is to be a thorough instructional video he should have shown actual coax connection to back of TV, amplifier to coax, and connection to power source, plug to outlet or USB adaptor to TV.
+stam9998 Thanks for the feed back. I skipped this because TV are different so was trying not to confuse people if their set up was different.
How many sheets of paper???? I missed that part
