Dr. Wiggo: I live in NYC; have SPECTRUM; and just lost the only LOCAL channel that I care about (which used to be free before they changed the tuner) called WABC-TV Channel 7: Disney deleted it (along with ESPN and other Disney Channels) because they are greedy. This is my initial foray into the "cut the cord" areas / space. I watched your video; did alot of web research; bought the Mohu - Leaf Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna, 60-mile Range - Grey from Best Buy (I could not get the 65-mile model as you stated); installed it in my 2FL bedroom inside of my townhouse; and I did not get WABC-TV Channel 7. Then I did more research; got RG-6 coaxial and connector (thanks to Tyler the Antenna Man); extended the coaxial cable to my 3FL (my 3FL is about 30 feet); and, even though youtube (and other sites and bloggers) said I would NOT get WABC-TV Channel 7, I GOT WABC-TV CHANNEL 7 anyway. I am SO HAPPY. Thank you very much Dr. WIGGO. AL DIOVANNI (Mainframe and SAS Programmer)
I feel your pain. I’m on Long Island 19 miles from where ABC broadcasts and can only pick up ABC occasionally. I’m on the third floor of an apartment building and have a cheap generic mohu leaf which gets a fair amount of channels. I purchased this Supreme model on Amazon in the hopes that I can get ABC. Wish me luck! **UPDATE** I Installed it yesterday and did a new channel scan. It picks up ABC and the local CW station, which were the two major networks I was missing. Plus a few more! I’m happy with my purchase :)
You have helped me out a great deal I appreciate the video Even though this is 2024 I still think it’s going to work great in my home Thank you for answering a lot of my questions
I bought this antenna and immediately I got 20 more channels than I was getting with another antenna that I had, also the quality of the picture on the channels improved since I’m getting a very good signal on all of them now.
Great video, I may have to look into one of those model antennas. I know depending upon what model TIVO you have you can hook up the antenna to it and record any OTA channel you want with it. I’ve been looking at the TIVO bolt myself.
@@DrWiggo Before you give up on TiVo, bare in mind that they do have models that do OTA. The problem maybe that you could only have the models that only do cable (ClearQAM). There are also models that do antenna like TiVo EDGE for antenna, TiVo BOLT OTA. Just like that Mohu Antenna, they may cost you a bit in the beginning but they end up paying for themselves in the end. One more thing. There was a period where Comcast Xfinity and other cable companies like them were running ads including talking about how satellite services go out during storms and making their service look like they are so untouchable. They try to make it look like their Community Antenna is better than Your Antenna. But you just made the point that goes in the face of the cable companies and the other side of things that people really need to hear. Keep on doing it.
@@djthereplay Agreed. But I'd have to buy a new TiVo that does OTA, and since they added horrific ads (like old school TV that are way louder than everything else) I swore I would never buy another TiVo. (When I lived in New Orleans, the CABLE would go out when it rained for way longer than the satellite, making those cable ads very ironic.)
@@DrWiggo At the very least TiVo has the ala carte stuff for OTA Free TV that CABLE AND SATELLITE makes you pay extra for. Ok, Yes TiVo has monthly and annual subscription tiers. True that BUT unlike CABLE and SATELLITE they have the all in tier where you can buy it outright and never have to worry about that again. Otherwise if you are still sworn to never buy another TiVo then you do you. This is a free country or supposed to be a free country and there are other DVR solutions outside of TiVo especially for OTA. Also those ads that cable tv runs are polarizing trying to scare everyone into subscribing to their Community Antenna by trying to make it look like their Community Antenna is better and stronger than Your Antenna or Someone Else's Antenna type thing especially when they talk about internet, TV and Phone services. Tip: Long story short, they learned from everybody else.
Yea my Comcast Bill is too high at $240 for Basic Channels and Internet which is ridiculously high and prices rise like every Year so I bought Antenna hoping to get Local Channels so I can cut Cable and only keep Internet
I thought mine was bad at $260 but that's all the channels plus HBO. What I'm afraid of is how much Comcast will want for internet only (since there's no viable alternative).
After an hour messing with the Mohu I get 8 not very clear channels. I'm 40 miles from chicago, I placed it upstairs on the window facing chicago. I'm trying to return it but Mohu not having it. Buyer beware
I've never owned a digital antenna -- leaf included -- that worked as advertised. They all pretty much suck. Amplified antennas are the worse especially if you live near the tower. When DTV was first introduced, you had to buy a converter box. You'd connect your old-fashioned Rabbit Ears to the box which would then convert the digital signal and display it on your not-so-smart TV. The setup actually worked very well. Later, HDTV antennas were introduced but they can't compare with Rabbit Ears. (I'm not talking about the plastic s**t made in China. Those are worthless.)
Just brought my Mom one of these, i hope it works well like yours.
There are a lot of variables, but playing with the placement can help.

Glad you got it working. NYC is a nightmare for OTA (all those pesky buildings reflecting signals).

Unfortunately, my TiVo models don't do OTA, so I may have to end my 20+ year TiVo history.😢
I have a Tablo OTA DVR. I use this antenna with Tablo and works great. Picture quality is dependent on weather.

thank you for information..any phone wall adapter is good for this antenna?
It should be. It's a standard USB power connector.

Sorry it didn’t work for you. I know they say “60 mile range” but as you discovered, that is overly optimistic.
Can you put it behind the TV? So i dont see it
Yes, that’s where I mounted mine.
I have a Tivo bolt 2tb and it won't use OTA pissed me off. It uses a cable card or cable only.
I think I'm going to get a tivo OTA and ditch cable. The wife needs local DVR somehow but 250 a month is BS
Same here. Very annoying.

Agreed. Over the years I've tried dozens. This one is above average (but not great).
nice shirt Ilike it
Me too! (Pro tip: Google "hawaiian shirt price xxx" where xxx is what you want on the shirt and you can get almost anything)
MAGA!!
Lay it in the sun or heat it up with a hair dryer and it will flatten out. Use your head.
Doh! (If you watch the channel, you'll find I seldom use my head. 😀)
