Why Did the Israelis Strike an Aid Convoy in Gaza?

  • The IDF has just released its preliminary report following a drone attack on a World Central Kitchen convoy in Gaza on April 1 that killed 7 aid workers. The report claims the chain of command flying the drone mistakenly identified the workers as Hamas gunmen, in spite of the fact the convoy was authorized by the IDF before it started its trip.
So was the targeting simply a function of the fog of war?

Some in the IDF don’t agree with these things occurring and this general may be one of the ‘good guys.’ But some high ups are absolutely for it and working hard to cause these attacks. They want to starve them out and do not hide this fact. So to act as if this was a mistake is laughable.

Anyone who hasn’t reported that Israel’s stated policy is to attack civilian aid convoys to get NGOs to leave so they can starve the entire Palestinian population isn’t reporting very basic and important facts. Read for yourself. Google “A new turning point in the history of the State of Israel. Most people don’t understand that” written by IDF Major General Giora Eiland. That’s one example of dozens. Yoav Galant has stayed to cameras that Israel’s goal is to annihilate all of Gaza. That means everyone. They’ve no interest in letting international aid organizations help the starving people there.

Remember the U.S. withdraw from Afghanistan in 2021? After the bombing at the airport entrance that killed 13 U.S. servicemen, a drone strike was authorized. Intelligent sources indicated that some of the perpetrators were hiding in a nearby house. The house was hit by a missile and about 6-8 peopple were killed. The problem, it was an inocent family with no ties to the terror group. As far as I remember no U.S. officials were reprimended or had a court martial. Haven't see any investigation about the use of chlorine gas and " barril bombs" on civilians by the Sirian government either.

The reason I ask is because a passive sensor, to my knowledge, cannot read lettering unless it is raised or of a different material than background, sufficient to change its heat signature. The FLIR Night Vision system on our car, a passive unit descended from the F-14D's IRST system, cannot distnguish lettering and usually cannot distnguish a license plate's lettering (but it can present the outline of the license plate frame). So how can a drone's IR sensor be expected to do that?

Israel has been very clear throughout - They are at war with a very devious enemy who will take first pick of any & all relief which gets into Gaza ............ Its hard. But its hard to blame them for that too.
The problem is the most extreme wing of Netenyahu's support has an established record of using intimidation to get its own way. Whether that's pushing Palastinians out of West Bank or - as now - intimidating Aid workers into delivering fewer supplies into Gaza It seems doubtful they would care.
Until this strike I have argued repeatedly that, in the light of the unimaginable attrocities of 7th October Israel deserves the benefit of any doubt.
      This changes that
      WHAT DOUBT?
Suppose for a moment this tale of 'supposed terrorists' accessing vehicles might have merit.
It does not square with the behaviour of the Aid trucks was pretty much the EXPECTED behaviour of the Aid trucks.
Israel has until this incident assured the world their optics are excellent, their drone strikes precise.
*They could by their own accounts SEE these were scheduled Aid Trucks*
There's no good way to say it except bluntly - They murdered the humanitarian aid people in the trucks.
And ..... on the balance of probability they did so to intimidate & deter others.
*The day Israel did this is the day Israel lost the moral high ground*
      Equivalent to Hamas's attrocities? NO

Fact of the matter is, if the Israelis weren't sure who was in the cars then why bomb them, that too three times over. @@Justanotherconsumer I'm imagining a coordination office that's separate from the drone pilot's unit. ID numbers on the car roofs - in letters that are feet tall, rather than inches - could be read by the drone operator, and transmitted to the coordination office: "Do you have auto XYZ located at ABC?" or something like that. Drone office looks up XYZ and says, "yes, do not shoot", or "XYZ is supposed to be at DEF, feel free to shoot", depending on what the deconfliction information says. Taking the time to decipher the WCK logo would take too long, especially when there might be dozens of locations where different WCK vehicles might be, making for dozens of times more work for the coordination office.

Here's the thing though. Two wrongs don't make a right. Lowering yourself to their level might be justifiable and effective but doesn't make it any less wrong.
The fact is that innocent people are dying as a result of their actions. That is not acceptable, especially when these are aid workers who told the IDF when and where they would be operating. Any issue with this information not being relayed properly to the right people is on the IDF. In fact, they should even give them GPS trackers or a radio so that they can coordinate better.
It might not be easy, but if you adopt the practices of terrorists you become one and your actions become fuel to recruit more to the other side. If Israel doesn't want this to become fuel for future conflicts... they have to do something to change how they are doing this.
And it is impossible to wipe out Hamas in Gaza since the leaders of Hamas are no longer in Gaza since they are negotiating elsewhere as noted by the efforts of Qatar and other countries in the area. The idea of Hamas and hatred for Israel gets easier reinforce with each innocent that gets killed. The only way to truly end a terror organization is to prove to people that they shouldn't hate your country. And civilian casualties aren't that.
