The irony of solar power is that power companies in Australia no longer ask us to turn off our air conditioners in summer because fossil fuel generation can't keep up. But struggle to keep the grid stable due to all the power produced by the sun! Last November South Australia went 6 days on 100% renewable energy, which was remarkable as we still only have a target of 20% renewable energy!
I wish that was our only problem in the Netherlands, Power companies did far too little upgrading the past years. This while having 1,5 years extra time during the covid crisis. Now in most of the nation there's no capacity for new large companies, and in many parts not for wind & solar projects either.
They frantically try to catch up, but slowed down by a shortage in technicians and post-covid / Ukrainian war supply issues. Quite infuriating.
Here in the US we're still arguing if it is even possible to go 100% net renewable energy. Or if climate change is real.
My dad used to say if GE owned the sun we would have had solar energy back in the 70s
Yes, that is great... It works in Australia where there is plenty of sunshine. But in some northern locales... We have good sun only in our summer months. But there still is enough at times to do so even without the full sun others enjoy.
Yes, where I live they actually have to turn the streetlights on in sections to help use up some of the excess electricity when necessary.

When your constituents are willfully ignorant, or just plain dumb, your job is easy: you just spout off whatever catchphrase-y nonsense is in your head and they'll cheer you on. AOC and her staff work INCREDIBLY hard to put their facts together so she can meaningfully articulate her message. And she expects her position to be challenged, so she comes prepared. One of my favorite AOC things is that when she's in a hearing, she never asks a question she doesn't already know the answer to. She never uses her question time to gather information; she already has the information. She uses her question time to get the person sitting before the committee to give the answer so that it is on the record. AOC would make a damn fine lawyer, better than most of the senators and congresspersons who actually have law degrees.

I got solar power 4 years ago and it was the smartest investment I ever did. During the winter storm we had in Texas my WHOLE town had no power. My power was on and working just fine. My house was nice and warm and so was my coffee ☕. Had 10 family members stay at my house for a week so they wouldn't freeze to death. Those family members now have solar 🙂
I have a solar water heater here in Central America. We have a metal roof & a small electric bill so panels aren't really worth it... but the 200 Liter tank & glass tubes get heated in the sun.. hot water 24/7/365
And Ted Cruz had to go to a warmer place. Hehehe
My sister has solar in Fort Worth, and everyone on her cul de sac was staying at her house like they were having a big sleepover.

I know a guy who is a cabinet refinisher that set up his house and a full woodworking tools workshop, all running on solar panels since the early 90's. Solar panels have dropped in cost from 8$ per watt to 20 cents per watt. I know an autoshop that put solar panels on the roof of their shop and run everything on solar panels, also since the 90's.
Obviously, some things require more power. But you can get more power by adding more solar panels.
There are some cases, such as steel-making, fertilizer production, or cement processing where hydrogen (electrolyzed from solar and or wind) will be necessary for CO2 free manufacturing. Solar and wind alone won't cut it in really power intensive industries. But for most businesses and homes, even energy hogging appliances can be supplied by renewables with battery backup.
Heating and air conditioning can also be made much cheaper and more efficient by drilling under ground and taking advantage of the temperature gradient in the earth.
In the next decade, we will be seeing wind, solar and batteries replacing aging fossil power plants everywhere around the world, because the cost is now lower than fossil fuel power plants. Batteries are somewhat more expensive, but the price of all three- solar, wind, and batteries is falling significantly every year, and will continue for at least 10 years, probably 20 - 30 years.
This is going to drive investment in renewables even in places where people are pro-fossil fuel and anti renewables. Cost is a driving factor.
We are actually living in the middle of an energy revolution.

I live in Florida our county is 100% solar and we do have power 24/7 seven days a week who listens to this dribble. The really scary part is she believes what she says. And so does her constituency no wonder they vote for her. God help us.
Intelligence was never a prerequisite for Congress. It's always been a popularity contest.
But said popularity contest is determined by the people. Therefore, states with smarter populaces like New York or California factor in intellgence/law knowledge while the backwater bible belt states do not. If the reps are especially dumb, that's a direct reflection of the dumbasses that elected that person.
I used to live in an apartment building that used solar power. I didn't know it for a while because my utilities were included in my rent so the source of the electricity didn't actually affect me. Then all the buildings using electricity from the power plant lost power due to a storm but my building still had it and was completely unaffected.
I live in a small town and they have started the same thing with all new housing being built

I'm currently watching this on my computer with the air conditioning blasting in the middle of a national forest in my solar powered camper with large batteries storing the excess power not being consumed. They're blindingly idiotic.
What kind of set up do you have? How much did it cost? How long will your batteries last before you have to replace them? I truly want to know. I can barely run my mini fridge alone after dark with what I have, and it cost me $500.

I spent a decade in the service industry, starting as a waiter and working up to bartender (from chain restaurants to fine dining to night clubs). Lemme just say this up front - MTG couldn’t handle bartending. It’s physically, mentally, and emotionally taxing and requires you to multitask hundreds of things at once, managing to deliver everything perfectly while having hundreds and hundreds of recipes memorized and getting drinks out as people first sit down to greet them, food out as they’re getting saucy and exactly as ordered, while also making drinks for every table in the ENTIRE restaurant on top of the bar.
Oh, and then managing to be personable enough to remember names and greet people and introduce guests to other guests in order to build a clientele that comes back to see you and brings friends. Maybe if MTG had worked as a bartender, she’d have a little more empathy and compassion for what kind of person you have to be in order to pull it off. She wouldn’t make it past the first day of training. And nobody, and I mean NOBODY, would want to split tips with her.

You're so right you have to multi task to tend bar. The job would fry what's left of her brain considering she has any brain cells left. Whoever thinks it's easy try it on busy night and see how you do. I thought it was easy until I actually did the job. Grass isn't always greener on other side.

We have installed solar panels and batteries here in Australia. We have a pool to run washing machine, dishwasher, hotwater to heat and room heater (we are in winter). We have not drawn any power from the grid in weeks. I go to bed at 11pm- midnight .Marjorie's lack of knowledge on most subjects is amazing.

Why do hot countries like Australia still use coal, oil and nuclear power plants if in those countries solar panels can provide ALL of an individual's energy needs?
The simple fact that Australia uses coal and oil in place of solar generation and that windy countries such as Britain do not have personal wind farms should tell you something.
Wind power will never be a thing, solar power will take generations to be viable and it will probably take off planet accumulation and viable storage solutions for this to be possible.
The "green new deal" is actually the red new deal, it is simply a vehicle for global corporate communism, which is why the oil and energy monopolies are the biggest funder of both it and the "climate change" narrative that underpins it.
The ONLY "green" option is NUCLEAR and you should ask yourself why that is so demonized, fission is perfectly safe and had no waste product.
I switched to solar two years ago and I barely notice anymore that I have to go down to the river and wash my clothes against a rock and I have to light candles at night. As far as refrigeration I just smoke all my meats to preserve them. You get used to it
